Islamic Culture & Democracy

Updated on October 25, 2009

slam is great religion and it has revolutionized every aspect of human life. Culture means the cultivation and development of human mind. Islamic Culture differs from other cultures because the aim of other cultures is to cultivate the mind of an individual or some group. Islamic Culture is the kind of culture prescribed by Islam. It aims at nothing less than the success of mankind as a whole. The origin of Islamic culture lies on Holy Qur’an. Islamic Culture is very different from other cultures in many ways. There are some prominent features of Islamic Culture.

Islamic culture is universal in its aim and object. It doesn’t aim at the success of an individual or a group. Its main objective is the development of the whole race intellectually, spiritually, socially & economically. The time of Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H has shown this that every individual from any race, caste, or nation can get success because of its abilities.

Islam is the practical religion. The teachings of Islam are practicable, means to surrender to the will of GOD/Almighty Allah. It teaches and preaches to us in practical, material, social and spiritual life. Islamic Culture has no place for those who only believe but not act. Islam means peace of both worlds, before death and after death.

Islamic culture is rational and appeals to men to use their reason. It doesn’t prohibits it’s believers to shun (avoid) the learning or worldly education infect prefers to learn it, maintains no distinction between religious education and secular education. In glorious days of Islam, the Muslims learned science subjects side by side Qur’an, Hadith & Fiqqa, and as all of you know that the most famous scientist in the early age of Science were Muslims.

Islam gives a complete political and social system as alternative to other systems. It promotes brotherhood and equality. There is no priesthood in Islam. Every Muslim man and woman has been urged to learn the knowledge as per Quotations of Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) which’s summary is “Learn from Mother’s lap to Grave”. It promises peace and stability in their whole world. Prophet Muhammad P.B.U.H was the best by all aspects of life even being illiterate only because He (PBUH) and His followers were following Islam in true manner

Muslims are backward now days because of them don’t follow the principles of Islam, in true spirit. They can regain their lost status only by following the Qur’an & Hadith (Saying of Last Prophet: Muhammad (PBUH))

The modern democratic state is a type of state which came into existence in 19th century largely as an effect of the French Revolution and the industrial revolution of the absolute nation-state of 16th and the 17th century, but Islamic state came into existence in the 7th century as an effect of the greatest Revolution of the world which was not only political and economical but also social and ethical.

Being a Muslim, I try as much as possible to follow the rules of Islam; and I love democracy especially Islamic democracy; so discussing here, Islamic democracy not only political equality but also social equality. In Islam every human is equal, all members of society are equal in status the only criterion of superiority in Islamic society is personal ability and character. Allah Says: “O MANKIND! I CREATED YOU OUT OF A SINGLE PAIR OF A MALE AND A FEMALE, THE MOST HONOURED OF YOU IN THE SIGHT OF ALLAH IS HE WHO IS THE MOST RIGHTEOUS OF YOU” Islam is now a days judged by Muslims, infect it must be judged by the teaching of Islam, by the Acts of Prophet (P.B.U.H), Words of Allah (Qur’an).

In Islam the concept of human brotherhood and equality is vital and basic. The lowest of the low must have the same rights as the highest of the high ----- the President of Republic. The first effective Endeavour of Islam to establish social equilibrium is its emphasis on equality. The Holly: “All men are equal in their human rights”

Everyone has got equal rights of progress in Islamic society; the restricted scope for personal achievement is the hall-mark of Islamic society. Islam not only emphasizes social equality, but also bans such attitude and activities as are likely to disturb social harmony. Democracy in capitalistic economies grants simply equal political rights, so, through manipulation of the non-restricted freedom, the capitalists make masses their wage-slave. It results in mockery and force. All the wealth of and resources under a capitalistic democracy are concentrated in the hand of a few capitalists. They through their money-power turn the state into the servant of their interests are against the interest of general masses. This dangerous possibility is not expected to occur in the Islamic State.

In capitalist’s society, money determines one’s place in society but in Islam it’s against the spirit of Islam, in a true Islamic society no one can lord over others merely on the strength of a swollen exploitation by prohibiting vested interest, hoarding, profiteering, by imposing Zakat (That every Muslim should pay 2.5% of it’s revenues to the poor) and by declaring that all that is in the heaven and the earth belongs to only one God/Allah.

Islamic ensures social justices and economic security for all by a comprehensive system of check and balances on the sources of income, the means of living and avenues of expenditure. It thus acts as a preventive check on the capitalistic tendencies and evils. Through it’s scheme of equitable distribution of wealth and resources.

Right to private property is not doubt recognized by Islam but it is hedged round by salutary checks. Islam imposes heavy social responsibilities on the rich. There is warning for serious punishment in store for those who abuse their riches to detriment of society. It has declared that all the authority belongs to Allah alone, but every man, being Allah’s representative ---Khalifa, is entitled to exercise that authority. No nobility, no priest has any discriminating privileges. Thus political equality or “rule of law” of capitalistic democracy is also fully secured in Islam

Very interesting hub. I've always gone "to the source" when wanting to know something I don't understand. You have cleared up questions I had via your hub. (It doesn't alter my Christian stance-nothing can do that, but it does answer some important questions.)

Im really feeling ashamed by his behavior sister, I'm really having no words to say to you, Yet i would like to say that If a follower doesn't follow its religion then its really a fault of him or herself...

Don't mind, but Hazrat E-SA (Christ-May Allah be pleased with Him) keep beard and now a days people even Christan or Muslim dont follow than we can do nothing but we can try to motivate them by using different tactics like reminding them about the life after death !!!

I have enjoyed your Hub. I am of Polish Catholic decent and was briefly married to an Islamic Egyptian. However, he did not embrace his religion. He mocked it by becoming Americanized and pretended to be Islamic out side the home only. When he married me I tried to embrace his customs and culture. However, he looked down upon that, because he wanted nothing to do with his culture back home. He even married a woman in Egypt while he as sill married to me. His reasoning is that I would never find out and that he married her under Islamic Law so he would have a wife in the states and a wife back home. However, without his knowledge, I went to the mosque to learn Arabic. I did it to honor him. Instead I found out more then I ever wanted to learn about him. Finally, I could live the lie no longer and left to go to my mothers in GA. Then, he stated that he could not live with the guilt of several affairs here in the states and a Islamic wife back home, that he needed to abandon his 6 moth old daughter and I. I have not seen or heard from him since. I have a deep respect for your religion. However, not all Islamic men are what they seem. I really fell for Islam. However, because of him and others like him, it left a very bad taste lingering in my mouth. It is sad to say, but a lot of Islamic men who come to this country are like him.
