Jesus--Relationship or Religion

Updated on July 27, 2011

Over the years my wife has dabbled with writing. Up until now she's kept it a personal thing, but now she wants to share it. She's not sure she wants to open a HubPages account. so I've posted this for her. Let her know what you think.

While at work today, I saw a flyer about prayer that caught my eye. You see, I had been challenged to pray more myself. As I looked more closely at the flyer, my mind and thoughts reflected on all that was taught to me.

First, let us look at religion. Most of us have been taught some form of religious belief at some time in our lives. Tradition has also shaped many of us along the way. Some agree with others, never looking to see the truth for themselves.

As for me, I am one that has been there and even now I must be careful to guard and stand for the very One who has been following me. You see, this one is Jesus, and there is none else. Jesus is like no other and once you begin to know Him, you will never be the same. Only Jesus can change the world. He has and will continue until the very end.

You see, Jesus offers us a relationship. It is personal. It is for everyone who is willing to come to Him. Jesus offers Himself to all. No one is excluded. Once you start to learn of Him, and personally allow Him to show you all He is and all He did for us, you will never be the same. Jesus’ name alone says it all—Savior.

So many may know of Him, but do not really know Him. I understand this because this used to be me as well. I thought I knew Him. I thought I was okay, but as I began to let Jesus into my life and allowed Him to search me, I saw this One who knew every detail of my life.

At first, my life was a real mess. I needed a Savior who could and would deliver me from every thing He already knew to be wrong in my life. Meeting Him was so exciting. My heart wanted Him. I knew I needed Him—so I responded.

As I began, things were going well, but I still had much to learn. Tradition was still much of the teaching, but God’s mercy was slowly pulling down the barriers. You see, when we see Jesus—I mean really see Jesus we are changed. No one can stand in His presence and not be changed.

Jesus is God. He is Deity. He stands alone. He is above all. Nothing exists without Him. There is none else. His Name is exalted. It is above every other name. No man, no woman could ever take His place although many have tried.

Many have allowed the traditions of man to take God’s place. God has called each and every one of us. His message is clear. Nothing has ever been hid to an open heart. I have opened my heart to Him. God has cut deep into my heart. God has shone me His heart. It is full of grace and mercy. His words to us in His final breaths…”Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”—we don‘t know until we allow God to search our hearts. God cleanses us from all our iniquity. God’s forgiveness is to us—is total forgiveness, a blank check, paid in full with His own blood—not religion, not tradition.

Let us come and pray with an open heart—ready to be cut by the One who has been following each and every one of us. Let Him be our one and only true God. This is my Jesus. Look to Him. Why did He come?--His eternal purpose. What did He want us to know?—The answers are in His book. What you do is up to you, but my prayer is this: Lord, change me. Lord, have me. My Jesus, take me—Father, You alone are worthy of all praise.

A beautiful testimony glorifying our Lord and clarifying the difference between religion and Christianity from a personal perspective. All glory to God and the Holy Spirit for urging this message be shared.

KJV - The Gospel of John:

1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was wth God, and the Word was God.

1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us ...

I loved the hub, pointedly because I loved the witness of your wife's relationship with Christ, and how He is a personal friend and Savior, and not a simple story of example passed down over the ages.

Please be encouraged and know your work has encouraged me.

This is truly beautiful! Our spirits bear witness one with another. It is more than a religion, more than a relationship; it is an intimacy with our Lord Jesus Christ. I love your prayer “my prayer is this: Lord, change me. Lord, have me. My Jesus, take me—Father, You alone are worthy of all praise”. God bless you and tell the preacher to let you help him out here. ~ Just kidding. I still need to read what he has written. I appreciate you both. Vote up and beautiful. God bless.

I think it was beautiful and personally I think most of my hubs are personal, because they are my thoughts. Jesus is very personal to each of us individually. So many come by and say, "we all have the same God" and well of course we don't and none of these mention Jesus, Who they cannot enter Heaven without.

Be yourself, when it comes to loving Jesus we are not about business, we are hearts reaching out if only to touch one then it is worth it.

I don't worry about scores. I put up two hubs in the last week or so and had so many visitors it has been hard to keep up with and my number is falling? There is no knowing what goes on there.

      Cristina,

You're so right. Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with the God of Heaven, the God who created all things--and in love He reaches out to us! This absolutely is the greatest treasure.

Great hub with great thoughts to ponder about. Christianity is not a religion but it is about God pursuing a personal and living relationship with us His precious children.THis relationship is the true source of security for all believers. This is the greatest treasure to be sought on eartn more than any worldly wealth. I am glad I have this personal relationship with Jesus. Thank you for these timeless truths presented on this hub. Remain blessed always. Best regards.

      lookseenow,

Look for my upcoming hub--Is Jesus God? I'll be glad to give you Scripture, but one must be open to the truth. By the way, I did you give you Scripture. Go back and read my comment again.

      Isin82,

Thanks for the visit. Yes, a personal relationship with Christ is what it's all about. And yes, I am afraid the church has become more concerned with quantity than quality.

      C-Bless,

You're quite welcome! Thank you for the encouragementand the visit.

This was an awesome post and very inspiring. A personal relationship with Christ is what He desires and what we should strive for. I honestly believe that the church has lost focus on helpling people build that personal relationship with Christ. We have become more concerned with growing the numbers instead of growing the person. Thanks for a great Hub...I hope your wife does decide to write on this site because I would surely keep up with what she has to say.

      davidkaluge,

I like what you said, "Its really good to have a personal relationship with God even if others do not agree or believe your testimony." It doesn't matter if anyone believes it, the Truth still stands. Thanks for the visit.

Our personal testimony is one of the strongest witnessing tools we can use. I'm glad my wife chose to share hers. BTW, I'm glad you have your facts straight.

      lookseenow,

Thank you for showing that God and Jesus are the same. I appreciate that so much. As you mentioned Colossians 1:16--"For by him [Jesus]were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him." Genesis 1:1 tells us, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Obviously Jesus is God and it's only through the sacrifice and personal acceptance of His blood can one begin to know the Father. You see, God took on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ so that the penalty of your sin might be paid for. That's what my wife has come to understand and Jesus will absolutely change your life if you let Him.

Well, that prove that we can have a personal relationship with our God, it is personal. I trust the founder of Mammon Church ( Church of Christ of later day Saints) also saw Jesus, and God together or what? when he got the golden plate, Its really good to have a personal relationship with God even if others do not agree or believe your testimony.

Great hub. The world need to hear our testimony. For it's in lifting Him up that men are drawn to Him.

@www.lookseenow - Get your fact straight.

Jesus Himself is God. Yes,He walked the earth in the flesh, but that does not deminish the truth of His deity, that He is God. Read John 1:1, 14 The Word Became Flesh

      John chap.1, verse 1-5,

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

Verse 14 - The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

If you understand the concept of the Trinity, then you'll come to see that The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit are all ONE.

If you know Jesus so well, then you should know his father, because even Jesus said: "No man can come to me unless the Father, who sent me, draws him." (John 6:44)

It is good that you have a personal relationship with Jesus, that means that his father is drawing you.

Jesus is not God; he said the father is greater than I am. Jesus was created, but his father had no beginning. Jesus aka Amen was the one giving John what he was to write, and send copies to the seven congregations that were functioning in his time, but later became known as Revelation. Here the glorified Jesus—not God—writes:

“These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God.” (Revelation 3:14)

Colossians supports the relationship of father, and son by Jesus to the likeness, or image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. I have a first-born son, and maybe you do too, but he is not me, he’s my son. So is Jesus God’s son. He uses Jesus as foreman, or “master worker,” to create too, because by means of him all other things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible.

      (Colossians 1:15-16)

Good post, but it needs some adjustments. You cannot prove by references that Jesus is God.

Best regards, and keep on seeking you will find Jerrygehen

It is a beautiful testimony. However if it were written as a teaching instead of a personal testimony, the score would be higher. This is important because the higher score attracts more readers. I hope my suggestion is helpful. If your wife is feeling led to present her writings to the public, she should follow through. Gotham Writer's Workshop has online courses and thousands of helpful hints for free that would be of great benefit. I hope your wife decides to write and publish. Joy in Jesus, HB.
