3 Keys to a Great Life
Some times life can appear to be boring, mundane or maybe plain is the correct term. Some of us go through life without experiencing the enjoyment that God has intended all of us to have. In this brief article I want to suggest three keys to help us live the great life that God has intended for all of His Children.
Key #1 Faith
Many times we get frustrated about where we are in life. We get frustrated about our careers, we get frustrated with our finances, we get frustrated with our family members and sometimes we even get frustrated with ourselves. With all of this frustration its easy to get distraught and disgruntled. We all desire to live a great life, a life full of excitement, joy, prosperity and contentment. We will never experience that great life if we stay in the pit of frustration. so I just want to encourage you not to give up and to hang in there. The first key to the great life I want to discuss is faith.
In order to have a great life, it's essential that you have a strong Faith. Because I am Christian I will be coming from the Christian perspective. Your faith is what guides you in your day to day life, it is what sets the standard for your thoughts and actions. As a believer in Christ, my faith leads me in obedience to the Bible. I believe and trust in everything the Bible says about me. That means I base the way I walk through life by what the Bible declares. Many times we allow the culture to define who we are. Because culture says you need to have fame and money to be successful and noteworthy, sometimes when we may not have much we allow what culture says to influence how we feel about ourselves. We get down, and sometimes we even get depressed. We look around and see how people are doing very well, and making a lot of money. They may have big homes and it seems like everything that they touch turns to gold. When we see other people and their things, we have the tendency to compare ourselves to them. That's very dangerous.
Life is not a competition, life is a journey and the path has been designed by God. We cannot compare ourselves to other peoples success. We must maintain our focus on what God has said about our individual lives and continue to pursue the destiny that He has set before us. In order to reach that destiny you must be grounded in your faith. A word of advice, set a personal quiet time where you and God can have communion. Talk with God about your life, talk to Him about why He created you and ask Him how does He want you to go about accomplishing it. Then, and this is big, after you've asked Him all of these questions, WAIT FOR THE ANSWER. A lot of times the reason we have not moved ahead in life is because we have got up and walked away in the middle of a conversation when God wasn't finished talking. If we're going to live the great life, we must be grounded in our faith. Listen believe and obey what God says about you in His word.
"Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know". Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV
Key# 2 Family
The second key to a great life is family. Family is extremely necessary in order to live a great life. Let me be clear, family does not necessarily have to be biological in the sense of the word. Everyone needs a support system. Family can be close friends, Church family, co- workers, or just a group of people that you can confide in and who believe in you. Its very difficult to live life alone.
We all need someone that believes in us and that understands and is rooting for us. We all need people who we can go to and talk to when life throws its difficulties at us. I recently had the opporunity to sit down and talk with a good friend who we haven't had the chance just to chill for a long while. What I noticed during the conversation was that as we talked and shared our current situations that we were both dealing with at the time, there was a sense of relief in the atmosphere. It seemed as if because we were able to talk to one another about life, life got easier. I left the conversation encouraged and strengthened I believe the feeling was mutual.
Life is truly better when it's done together. Isolation will drive a person insane. We were not created to be alone, God designed you for community, for fellowship and family. If you don't have a "family" get one. Get to know some people and build relationships and trust with people. Love people and let them love you. Life is done better when we do it together.
"From whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love". Ephesians 4:16 NKJV
Key# 3 Fitness
The third key to a great life is fitness. Fitness has two aspects, physical and financial. I must confess before I go any further, this is a very difficult subject to write on. I am by NO means a fitness person. I may even be allergic to it. I must concede that fitness is very important in order to live a great life. Your health is important, we need to make sure that we take care of our bodies. I know that life can be really, really, really busy. None the less, we can't get so wrapped up in our day to day activities that we forget to take care of ourselves. Many times we neglect our health by stopping at a fast food place for a meal instead of eating a healthier meal at home. We grab cheeseburgers and French fries instead of fruits and vegetables. Don't get me wrong, I love a great burger, but there's got to be balance. Without a healthy diet and a regular workout routine, yes, I said it, exercise, we cut the great life that we want to live, short.
God has designed each one of us for a specific purpose. He has given us a job to do while we're here on Earth. I don't know about you, but I don't want to get to heaven and tell God that I didn't finish my assignment because I was too out of shape to get it done. My advice today is make the decision to eat healthy, create a plan, even hire a health coach if necessary, I happen to know a great one, email me for contact info. Get some exercise at least 30mins three days a week. Run this race with endurance.
The second and final portion of the thrid key to a great life is financial fitness. Being financially fit can make or break the type of life that you live. Its possible to live life without being financially fit. However, if you take that route, be prepared to deal with a ton of uneccessary stress and headache. In order to live the great life, its necessary to be financially responsible. Having a budget and sticking to it is vital to your financial fitness.
Many times we think of our finances as something that is personal and it somewhat is. However, we must remember where our finances come from and what the purpose of our finances are. The reality is that God is the one who gives us our resources, and He gives them to us so that we can accomplish His work. Scripture tells us in Deuteronomy 8:18 "And you shall remember the LORD your God. for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day".
God gives us power to get wealth so He can build His Kingdom on earth. God has actually made us managers of His currency. Our money is God's money. Its necessary for us to make sure that we are being good managers of God's resources. We can do this by making sure that we're obedient to God by first participating in Christian giving (Tithes & Offering at your local Church), and living within our means by budgeting our money sticking to it and spending and saving wisely.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers".
3 John 2 NKJV
If we're honest, we all want to live the life that God wants us to have. We all want to live a great life. In order to live that life we have to live it how God intended. It's very important that we are good managers of the life that God has given to us. We have to have Faith and live that Faith out. We have to live our lives according to God's Word. We need a support system. We are not designed to be Lone Rangers. To be effective we need to surround ourselves with people who love us, believe in us, and support us. We need to take care of our bodies, we can't accomplish the things that God wants us to if we don't take care of our health. We have to be good stewards of God's resources. God intends for us to use His resources for establishing His Kingdom. I promise you if you use these three Keys, they will unlock the door to a great life.
God Bless and Choose Life.
