Baby Boy Born in South Indian Brahmin's Family.

A thousand year or more tradition among South Indian Brahmin Family is the first hair cut of a baby boy born at the age of 3 years. The number 3 is a significant number for several of the traditions with regards to this function. The age old given age is 3 and its strictly followed. However if the baby has very little hair it can be postponed to 5 years. This system calls for a celebration on a scale as affordable by the parents. Many do it in a very big way by calling more than 100 families of their caste and sect.Among Brahmin's Smarta is one caste and Babbur Kamme is one sect. What ever be the caste or sect if the bay is a pure Brahmin this function is a must.Hair grows on the top of your head.It is there fore considered that at most importance is given due its place and power.( There is proof that several people have done remarkable things with hair such as pulling a Railway Engine.) The hair which grows very fast at the age of 3 years becomes a problem for the hair management by the Mother. If it's a girl there is no problem they can manage but if its a boy the baby looks like a girl and people start calling it by feminine gender words like how old is she, what is her name,is she the first born, does she sleep well etc, etc. It is the mother's ego that makes her shout it' a boy not a girl. There is also the big problem of cleaning and drying. After cleaning if the water is left by over sight on the head the baby might catch cold or hair becomes tangled with itself and it will hurt the baby when the mother tries to comb the baby's hair. There may be scientific factors also such as the eyes getting affected due to the hair falling over the yes and the baby trying to see with a squinted position of the eye and later will try to see everything with a squinted eye,due to the habit if it's not trimmed. There is another risk of hair stinging on the eye ball several times a day which might micro dammage the eyes affecting the eye later in his life.Further a chance of his long hair might fall in to his meal and enter the stomac and get entangled there affecting his intestines.Considering that these factors the good old practice to have a Juttu which is a 1 inch diameter at the back of the head between the center of the ears just over the back of the neck was being kept for many years by the bramhins.Today its out of fashion and there fore we have plenty of Eye Clinics and Hospitals. There fore it's highly important that this more nano powerful part of the body is given a traditional celebration with in the family and in the most appropriate way as per the scriptures that say the how the procedure must be followed and what MANTRA has to be recited and for which other God is to be invoked, invited and invitations sent through the powerful MANTRA straight from Rig Veda recited to ward off any problems..

We have so many sub-sects in Brahmin's comLmunity and each sub-sect worships their traditional gods worshiped by their fore fathers. One sect worship's God Shiva and other Worships Lord Vishnu, thouse who worship Lord Shiva mark 3 lines of Ash taken from the Homa Kunda or the Fire Place where pooja's are made by offering various items of food and items such as Gold,Silver and Fabrics worn by holy presits who prescribe the items to be offered to Fire God who will transport it to the Lord Shiva. The other sect put rubber stamps of holy signs not with ink but with sandle wood paste. Both have common Gods being worshiped the most favorite God being Lord.Satyanarayan.

In this function that is First Hair Cut to the Baby Boy after his third birth day the parents after elders advise performed LORD SRI SATYANARAYAN'S POOJA. Relatives and friends of their community were invited who had the pooja seen and its benifits which was narated to them by the preist or purohit told with real incidences of how even being present at the pooja had done miracles. How few who neglected to receive the pooja prasad suffered. After Pooja all the Guests were given stemtuous tasty meals on plantain leaves.Pictures of Pooja and other interesting shots are presented in this Hub..
