Peace in a Chaotic World
One of the most precious and hardest to find commodities in this world is Peace. It doesn't take a high IQ, it doesn't take a massive google search, nor doesn't take an act of Congress to determine that this world has become a chaotic throng. From nation to nation all the way down to individuals, peace is an ellusive experience.
From our first cry after birth to whatever our current experience maybe, we are looking for peace with others and within our lives. Ask yourself this question; Do I have peace on all levels of my personal experience? Most people who honestly answer say mostly "No" with a few close "maybes" and no smile to suggest they are happy with their response.
So what is the Webster definition of peace. "A state of mutual harmony between people or groups, especially in personal relations: Try to live in peace with your neighbors." But this also applies to internal peace. So many of us are at war inside of ourselves and are in a search for peace that fulfills.
Today's society raises so many questions about what is right and wrong, what is politically correct, and what is socially acceptable. You might find yourself in harmony with someone or some issue but it is impossible to be at peace on all fronts - or is it?
It is possible. There were times in my life when I would have been quite exuberant to say NO to that postulate. But peace is available to those who will open their hearts and minds and receive it.
I was once an Aethiest. I had no peace during those years. I have many friends now who are Aethiest and those who have converted from Aethiesm. But that is not what I'm writing about. I know many who are Christian who have yet to find the Peace that I'm talking about. I'm not saying they won't finally find it but I've talked to too many of them to not know they exist.
Many are ignorant of the Biblical definition of peace. Let me share it with you in the verse that it is most adequately described. Act_24:16 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
This simply means that a person is not guilty of breaking the last six commandments of God which are those commands concerning the relationship betweeen humans. But also to have not broken the first four commandments of God which is the relationship between man and God.
To some this may sound like giberish or something foreign and without interest. Indeed, many aren't interested in religion but they sure wish they could find peace. I exercise myself to be in harmony with all man where I'm allowed. They may not have peace about me or my principles of life, But I can be at peace concerning them and their existence. I don't need for them to adopt my life principles for me to be a friend to them or to love them. Since I am a Christian I seek at all times to be at Peace with my God. He gives me His grace, His forgiveness, and gives me guidance so that I can always be at peace with Him.
When I've gone contrary to His will, my conscience has been very active in convicting me of my shortcomings. Once I confess and turn around again, that peace returns that fills my soul.
I hope that any person who reads this will hunger for a true Peace in their hearts.
