Part II of Keeping God on His Throne
He Knew US Beforehand!
This article is written for those who suffer depression, low self-esteem, and confusion about self-worth. I want to address those who would argue a fetus is a non-person. And I devote this to those poor and humble in this worlds goods and prosperity. Actually, this article is for everyone who will read and understand just how special they are to a loving God.
Jeremiah the Prophet was not born thinking himself a chosen person. He had no grandiose ideas that elevated his self-opinion. He was a young man among many who were just living their daily lives the best they knew how. But his life would change drastically as soon as the knowledge for his life’s plan would come to light.
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee; I have appointed thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 This verse from the book of Jeremiah tells of a Creator who already knew Jeremiah before he was born. Yes, even before he was conceived. The verse even says that he was known before he was formed.
What is the significance of this? Several questions must be raised when understanding the implications of this verse. We are given to understand that God planned to have Jeremiah come forth from the womb at a certain place and time. This was a deliberate act by a Creator God. Is it the only time God worked in this manner? Was Jeremiah a special incident in the life of mankind to not be repeated ever again?
To both questions we must go back to the Bible.
Isa 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
Isa 48:15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
In this we see that God would at his own timing deliver the Hebrew people out of bondage. He would choose the method as well as raise up the person who would act in His stead as He deemed. Cyrus was afore mentioned in scripture 100 years befor his birth. God knew him before he was formed in the womb.
Okay, that is two men that God plainly states that he knew them before they were formed in the womb. How far in advance can God know of someone’s existence? Let us remember that in fact He is God. He is the Creator of all there is. The very act of His incarnation into the human family will be a science of study for eternity.
All too often we let our understanding of His greatness be diminished. If He is able to not only create this vast universe and also is able to hold it in place according to His will, then can’t he do just about anything He wants? I’d say yes to this and most emphatically.
In fact, I want to be so bold as to state my belief that when God created Adam and then Eve, that He knew everyone of us that would ever live. Not one person would be left out of His knowledge.
Let’s look at these verses.
1Ti 2:13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve;
Gen 3:20 And the man called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
Gen 4:1 And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah.
It is easily understood from the Biblical account that God first created Adam. Then shortly later he formed Eve from Adam’s rib. Together they conceived a child in a manner in which God foreordained. Look at Gen 3:20 again. It says that Eve’s name is understood as meaning the "Mother of all the living." We could call her our “Mother" and not be mistaken.
When we read in Jer 1:5 that God knew Jeremiah in his mother’s womb, I suggest that it was not only his immediate mother that God was referring to but rather also to Eve " the Mother of all living." Cyrus was mentioned 100 years before his birth. There is no way that his mother carried him in her womb for a 100 years. When God says, "I knew you before you were formed" I believe God is telling us that he knew Jeremiah and Cyrus at the time of Adam and Eve. I’m suggesting that God was creating all of us at the same time as Adam and Eve. Their was one grand great design being fulfilled all at once and being set in motion thru procreation
I once knew a man who was an Architect. He told me that before he ever sets down to design a building, he already has much of it’s appearance and design in his head. In fact, the blueprints he would finally draw out just represented what had already been in his mind. If a human, in our limited manner, can do such as this how can we limit a Creator God to not being able to do His much greater creation act?
My conclusion from these Bible verses is that all of us were known to God by design when Adam and Eve were created. That in fact that creation act was unfolded in the act of procreation and set in motion according to His will.
So, if God my Creator knew me during creation week, then I’m pretty special to Him because he included me in His design. I have purpose and value to Him. I’m not an accident and neither are you. This conclusion gives even greater insight in this next verse.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Jer 29:11 "To give you an expected end" sounds like forethought to me , how about you? If that is not enough look at this verse in Rom 8:29. For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:
When God considered his grand design for man, He was not including sin. He wasn’t condoning birth defects. Love doesn’t plan misery for the objects of its love, but misery is what happens because of sin. When Adam and Eve consented to believing a lie, they subsequently gave their allegiance away from the Truth loving Creator to the father of liars - Satan himself. But rather than leave man to pay the penalty for his sin, God stepped in with His plan for redemption through His Son. Without this man was lost. Free will had to be part of the design because God didn’t want robots who were preprogrammed.
This is His plan. He knew that giving man "free will" was a risk but an Agape loving God could do no less. He wants us to love him willingly - not forcibly. Therefore, the plan of redemption through His Son Jesus Christ is His love revealed to those in His creation that he foreknew. That would be each and every one of us.
Now do you fee special? Not of our doing do we deserve this but by His design.
Let's keep Him the throne. This is the only way to have a right relationship with Him. We should love Him when we have come to an understanding of just how much He has loved and provided for us.
Next article will be on the root essence of all of today's problems and how it affects all of us. You may be surprised.
