Lies You Were Told: Updated Scholarship

Updated on October 23, 2017

History Unlearned

When I attended university, I began to unlearn a whole lot of "facts" taught to me in elementary school and high school. History was one of my majors, combined with Mass Communications and Social Work.

One of the biggest untruths is that Columbus discovered America. The Native peoples are the one who should get the credit for that great event. In fact many countries and cultures traded with both Americas way before Columbus arrived in the Americas. In the book, The Lost Colonies of Ancient America," written by Frank Joseph, he lists several cultures and nations who left artifacts in the Americas which predated Columbus' arrival in the Americas. Archaeologists have found artifacts from these cultures: Sumerians, Egyptians, Minoans, Phoenicians, Romans, Celts, Hebrews, Africans, Japanese, Chinese, South East Asians and Norse. All these cultures had boats with advanced technology which could survive long voyages to the Americas. Yet elementary and high school students are still being taught that Columbus discovered America. We need to update those history books to reflect modern scholarship.

Columbus Day is not based on historical fact. It is based upon an idea which is not true. In Minneapolis we have eliminated Columbus Day, like a number of other American cities. We celebrate the cultures of the Indigenous peoples and call it Indigenous Day. It is celebrated at the American Indian Center in the late afternoon with ceremonies, theater and dancing of the cultures of the Native Americans of both North and Central America.

Columbus killed and enslaved Native peoples. Unfortunately we still have a statute of Columbus in front of our state capitol building with these words: "Discoverer of America." We need to remove this statute and replace it with a statue of a Minnesotan. There is a petition started by City Pages you can sign in favor of removal of this statue, replacing it with a statue of one of our great musicians: Prince Rogers Nelson. It is also good to look at other great Minnesotans who could be displayed in front of our capitol building.

Another untruth taught in the elementary and high schools is that the founding fathers believed that every one was created equal. They believed all white men with property were equal. Many owned slaves, like Jefferson and Washington, and also thought of women as being their property. It was in the mid 1800's when Jane Austen wrote Pride & Prejudice about how the English patriarchal system harmed both men and women. It took a bloody Civil War before we abolished slavery in the United States. To this day we are living with the effects of this great social injustice. Racism and sexism are still very much in existence in our society. Trump, known as 45, is only a symptom of this mind set of white supremacy and sexism.

The Hindus had a very high, advanced civilization and culture which many call the Vedic Civilization. It was a great empire which included modern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kasmir (near Tibet) and a number of the former Soviet Union republics with the "stan" suffix. Some sources even include modern day Nepal as being part of this great empire.

You were told that the Arabs invented the concept of the zero in mathematics, but the truth is the Vedic peoples used the zero way before the Arabs or the Europeans used it in mathematics.

You also have been told that the Wright Brothers invented flight. Leonardo had a notebook with a model for an airplane, so the knowledge existed prior to the Wright Brothers' attempts at flight. In the Hindu spiritual texts we find descriptions of an aircraft called the Vimana. Some of the texts which mention them are: The Mahabharata, The Yajuveda, The Ramayana and The Bhagavata Purana. In 1875 the writings of The Vaimanika Shastra were discovered in an Indian temple. This was a manual for these Vimanas which describes the alloys used, the different types of Vimanas, the description of the vehicles and operation and upkeep of the vehicles. In 2012 NASA scientists tried to remove one of these Vimanas from a cave in Afghanistan. They could not accomplish this because of the anti-gravity device surrounding the vehicle. President Obama, Prime Minister David Cameron, President Nicholas Sarkozy (of France) and Chancellor Angela Merkel came to this location in the summer of 2012 near the time of the discovery of the Vimana. The scientists say the vehicle was about 5,000 years old. So it appears that the Wright Brothers only re-invented modern flight.

Mother Saraswati is the goddess of education, music, the arts and sciences, the heart, the mind and the intuition. She is our inspiration in finding true knowledge in the spiritual and material worlds. May She be our inspiration in the pursuit of true, Divine knowledge!

SHRI JAI SARASWATI MA! JAI SHRI TRUTH! JAI SHRI DIVINE KNOWLEDGE!

As individuals with free will we should get smart, be alert and move away from danger.

I think all three would be a possibility and they all probably did use these crafts. It would be good to avoid war and get at the root causes of terrorism, yes. Until we deal with the causes of war, we will still have wars, unfortunately.

I think all three were possible. It's not an either or kind of thing as far as the pilots are concerned. I was commenting on the particular situation of the Gita and their particular situation. I am personally against war and it generally should be avoided. Terrorism is a complicated situation and we really have to get at the root causes of it.

I believe a high-tech people and their pilots were mistaken to be god in ancient scripture, see:

As for war and killing, I believe it is time to renounce the old idea of killing for accomplishment and embrace the peace officer strategy of arresting using the least amount of force. See:

As mentioned in the blog, NASA scientists found the Vimana in 2012 in Afghanistan. In the blog I mention that a manual was found in 1875 which was for a Vimana. This is pretty good evidence for their existence. Some people might use that word "gods" because they may have been more technologically advanced. Some people might use the word advanced beings instead. The Hindus were pretty advanced, though. We have found evidence of indoor plumbing, advanced arts and toys in some archaeological sights. I think they also could have been capable of driving them, too. In the Gita Krishna is talking about the principles of yoga. Arjuna was the general of the army. The people on the other side were cousins, most likely. Krishna had gone to negotiate with the opposition as the Divine Peace Maker and the other side did not want to compromise. The crown prince was a tyrannical person who would have surely killed and destroyed even more people. It was Queen Kunti who made the decision to go to war, not Krishna. In the Gita Krishna was telling him to do his duty in the situation. Krishna did not fight himself, though. I personally do not like war and I think it should be avoided. It is a tough call. It is like modern day problems with terrorists. They would kill even more if you did not do something to stop them. I would like to get to a place where we did not have terrorism or wars.

I enjoyed reading this article and it follows many of my own beliefs. However, I have some questions:

      1. How do we know this Vimana was actually discovered?

      2. If the ancient Hindus actually flew in Vimanas, were the pilots considered gods? See:

      https://hubpages.com/religion-philosophy/Atlantian...

      3. In the Gita, Arjuna kills his family at the direction of Krishna. What do you think of that?
