Lay down the flag

Updated on January 11, 2015

Lift your arms up in worship to Jesus

I have been thinking a lot about idol worship lately, and I think that there is so much of it going on all around-everywhere.

Any time that something is put ahead of Jesus in our lives, that something can be construed as being idol worship.

Take for instance the flag of a nation. Many times we hear people speaking about the flag, how someone is or has insulted ‘our flag’ yet when they speak ill of our Lord and saviour they do not get as upset. Should we not put down the flag and lift up our hands to worshipping Jesus instead?

I know that some people will say that their flag represents their nation, which stands for democracy, freedom and justice etc, but does it really? Does your country really stand for those things? Do you not think that Jesus stands for those things and a lot more, more than a mere piece of fabric? Doesn't He deserve your love, praise, worship more than that flag?

There are many idols in peoples lives, some include sports teams, athletes, money, houses, cars, spiritual leaders…too many to mention.

Any person, place, thing-anything that is placed above Jesus is an idol.

We must realize that all earthly things will pass away and the only thing left is our relationship, or lack thereof with Jesus.

Nations will come and go, flags will disappear, sports teams will fade away and our bank accounts will vanish some-day, everything on this earth will someday be gone and forgotten. But Jesus will remain forever.

Your country and my country, as much as we love it, is in all reality meaningless. We say our nation is the best in the world…everyone believes that their country is the best. But it will be gone someday. So let me ask you this, what about the people? It is useless to worship your country and pray for it if you do not pray for the people.

In reality, we must pray for the people in our respective nations, but should we not pray for every person in every nation around the world? Should we not pray for the salvation of those who follow islam? Did I just shock you? The truth is, those who are muslim extremists, who are murdering people by the hundreds need our prayers. If they come to the Lord, would they not stop murdering? What a great witness for the Lord they can be!
Will you pray for them, or are you holding on to anger, hatred and bitterness? Do you think hating them shows loyalty to your country? Or will you be loyal to Jesus and forgive them as Jesus commands us to? Remember everything that was done to Jesus, the brutality He went through for each and everyone of us, and what did He say when He hung on the cross?

Luke 23: 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

I guess what it comes down to is this, put away the worldly things, put away the idols and lift up your hands to the Lord and seek Him, His words, His wisdom and hunger after His will for your life.

How many of you pledge allegiance to your country, flag, queen etc, but have never pledged allegiance to the Lamb…to Jesus? Where have you placed your allegiance?

Flag waiving does nothing, Jesus praising is everything.

Revelation 14:7

7 He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Colossians 3:2
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Exodus 20:1-6

And God spoke all these words:2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Leviticus 26:1

“‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.

Thank you all for your comments, and for taking the time to read this hub. God bless you all and stay strong as we head into times of trials and turmoil on this earth. But, as we all know, as long as we stay committed to Christ, we will have our reward in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour.

thomasczech, you have won the Tsadjatko award for telling it like it is! I bro-love you, bro!

2 Corinthians 4:4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.

John 4:21-26 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22“You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

Mt 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”

I love quoting from the book of "fairy tales" as some atheists would have you believe that it is. What it really is is the

I do believe there are many choices of worship we see this the list has varieties from people's backgrounds of traditions, but we do need to recognize that the flag is a representation of a religion based on a pledge of allegiance to your country as stated ! as well the approval with a ceremonial touching of the heart with a phrase.and even though it mentions god ,it does not say what god because there are many gods

Notice that even satan is one, also notice who give these government s here powers and to whom he wishes,

Reference Bible Mt 4:8 Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms (Governments of the earth) of the world and their glory,

Mt 4:9 and he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”

Reference Bible Lu 4:6 and the Devil said to him: “I will give you all this authority and the glory of them, because it has been delivered to me, and to whomever I wish I give it.

Reference Bible Lu 4:7 You, therefore, if you do an act of worship before me, it will all be yours.”

Every time people pledge allegiance to the flag they are giving worship.

Notice what Jesus said about the Government he represents

Reference Bible Joh 18:36 Jesus answered: “My kingdom (Government) is no part of this world. If my kingdom ( Government) were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.”

Jesus never claimed these Goverments was of his source or backings ,

Because satan owns these all over the world and their different flags.

Thank you for the remainder of what really matters in our life. It should be an eye opener in this age when people worship the world more than God.

That song by Ray Boltz, is one of my favourite Gospel songs.

Very awesome hub and worthy in truth. Back in my youth I was a color guard and proud to do it. It was for my home town and we presented the colors for most important meetings. But here is the thing; after we presented colors there was always an invocation/prayer said to begin the meeting. My oh my how things have changed.

I do see where you are coming from and of course I would never worship a flag or think more of it than Jesus. Our flag in America has no meaning anymore but at one time I was very proud of it; one nation under God. We were a Christian nation and it flowed through our land and our laws but people wanted rid of that and now look at what we have?

I am still proud that it represents men and women willing to protect us at cost of their own lives and many of those now have no freedom of religion while others under the same flag do. When many of us say God bless the USA we still see that flag that "was" under God.
