Life Before Life - Where Were You Before You Were Born?

Life Before Life?

There are many stories around the world concerning children and reincarnation. Even many adults say they have experienced memories of past lives. In fact there are so many that to think they are all just dreams or made up stories can no longer ring true.

In My article The True Story of the Children Who have Lived Before, we saw proof that something was definitely going on.

How could a child remember he was a fighter pilot? And then go on to explain the parts of the Plane, where he had fought and so on?

Another boy remembered living on a remote Scottish Island, and in fact explains that he knew the plane would land on the beach.

But what about before life? There is so much information about after life experiences, but if there is life after death we must then realise that actually there must have been life before we are born.

So where we before our soul traveled to live in our present bodies?

Reincarnation past lives
Reincarnation past lives

So What Was Life Before Life Like?

Where was your soul or spirit before you were born? There have been lots of stories about children saying that they lived before. But more intriguingly there are those who state that they have seen or know where they were just before birth.

The Pre Birth Experience (PBE) is different in that it doesn't claim to know the other lives that they have lived.

The pre birth experience seems to remember the plane of existence that they were on just before they were born. This is similar to near death experiences, or NDE.

The patient who is near death will feel themselves 'slipping away' to another realm.

Sometimes they can see friends or relatives who have gone before them. But others actually sense or see a place that is the Spirit world, and can actually choose whether to come back to earth as a reborn child.

In a small number of cases the patient will get a sense of the rebirth experience before waking back up in this life.

The Floating Soul

So, what do people feel before being born? When people have been regressed back to previous incarnations, they talk about being 'somewhere' in a peaceful place.

In the case of a boy called Desmond, he states that he lived before in a lovely place with fields and with his friends to play with. Now this may sound like children's tales. But he did say something rather strange.

When he was asked, did he swim? He said, 'no I didn't need to, we never got wet, and we floated to the top'. Then went on to say, 'I used to make singing flowers when I was in Heaven before'.

He said that, 'To make the flowers, we had to think of them stage by stage, then they would appear'.

Another boy, Daniel, when visiting the ocean for the first time, turned to his mother and said 'I love the water, we had to go into the water to be born, it was more like a river though'.

Was that a memory of actually being born? Sounds like it to me.

A little girl named Lorna stated that she loved meeting Jesus. When asked by her father what she meant she stated that 'The last time I died, when I was little, I saw Jesus. He always came to visit us'.

True stories? Or just children's imagination?

Children Who Have Been To Heaven - Headline News

In the Mail online in April 2010, there was a startling headline that stated:

Boy of three tells how he saw grandma in Heaven, after falling in a pond.

Paul Eicke was clinically dead after falling into a pond. After three hours the paramedics re started his heart, and he has gone on to make a full recovery. The strange thing about the incident is that he claims to have seen his grandmother in Heaven while he was 'dead'.

He was in the pond for several minutes before his grandfather saw him and pulled him out. His irate father managed to give him mouth to mouth and heart massage while waiting for the air ambulance to arrive.

After trying for over three hours and about to give up, the paramedics found a heart beat and the little boy was resuscitated.

When he woke, the little boy said that he had seen his great grandmother Emmi on the Other Side, and talked to her.

Paul says:

'I was floating, and there was a lot of light. I came to a gate and saw my grandma on the other side. She asked me, what are you doing here? You must go back, your daddy and mummy will be waiting for you. I knew it was Heaven but grandma said I had to go home and quickly, Heaven looked really nice, but I am glad I am back now'.

Paul is back home with his family, and luckily there is no sign of brain damage.

Heaven Is For Real

The Headline Read:

USA Today - A Boys View of Heaven.

Colton Burpo is famous for being the four year old child who had a near death experience when he suffered a burst appendix. Doctors were convinced he wouldn't live through it.

But live he did. And his extraordinary story took a strange turn when he claimed that he had met Jesus, John the Baptist, and his great grandfather when he went to Heaven on the operating table.

Not only was this an extraordinary claim, but he went on to say that he had met his sister too. His mother was shocked to hear this as she had a miscarriage before the little girl was born, and Colton knew nothing about it!

Was this a dream? Or did Colton actually have a Near Death Experience?

He pointed out photos of his grandfather that he had never met in this life, and stated that he was the man he had spoken to in Heaven. In the photo his grandfather was young, but Colton still recognised him as he said that people looked younger in Heaven.

He also mentioned something that many others have also reported. The colors and rainbows were so bright, more so than on earth.

Colton is now thirteen years old, but still remembers his encounters. But he has forgotten some of it as he has grown older.

After the event his father the Rev. Todd Burpo wrote a book about his sons amazing trip to Heaven. It is still one of the most famous and popular books on the market today

Are birthmarks a sign that you have lived before?
Are birthmarks a sign that you have lived before?

Are Birth Marks A Sign of Reincarnation?

In 2005 a book written by psychiatrist Jim B. Tucker called 'A scientific investigation of children's memories of previous lives,' presents over 40 years of of reincarnation study at the University of Virginia.

Jim found that not only were children coming forward and telling stories of their previous lives, but a strange phenomenon of birth marks was occurring.

And it wasn't only birth marks. There were people coming forward with birth defects too. These claimed that the birth defect was caused by injury in their other life, or lives.

So, what are birth marks to do with anything? Well, it seems that the children who stated that they had been 'Great granny' for example, actually had the same birth marks as their great grandmother when she was alive.

Of course this could be caused by the mother telling the small child that the birth mark was similar to its grandmother.

On the other hand the book suggests that the consciousness can be separate from the brain. This in itself can be a basis for reincarnation.

Near Death Experiences

The very first NDE was recorded by Plato who describes Myth of er* in his book Plato's The Republic.

Plato describes his telling of a soldier in a near death experience. So the idea of near death experience goes back a long way.

The person in question will have a sense of peace and usually see a white light drawing them towards it.

Once they have traveled through the light they may see their family who have passed and many people talk about a wonderful land with flowers trees and plants. The air is so clear and there is no sense of panic, just calm.

Myth of er*

The story begins as the man, Er dies in battle. When the other bodies are collected, Er is seen to be un decomposed.

Two days later, he revises on the funeral pyre and recalls his near death experience with talk of Angelic Realms, reincarnation and Celestial Spheres.

In this count, the word Myth means account, word or speech. So it seems that the idea or reality of reincarnation is thousands of years old.

Dr. Eben Alexander
Dr. Eben Alexander

Is Heaven Real? A True Story of a Neurosurgeon Who Remembers The Afterlife.

Dr. Eben Alexander is a practicing surgeon who thought he knew everything about the human brain. He had never had thoughts about an afterlife, and if he did he presumed that it was caused by something happening to the chemicals in the brain when under trauma.

In fact he was so convinced of this that he would try to refute it whenever it was talked about. This was until he experienced it for himself. In 2008, he contracted bacterial meningitis and spent a week in a coma.

When he woke up he told colleagues that what he had experienced was beyond scientific explanation. Dr. Alexander went on say:

The most challenging thing is to try and keep an objective mind. If that's possible. I was stunned by this Realm and wondered what it meant. Of course the other doctors presumed it was because I had been so sick therefore I was hallucinating. But it was way to real to be a dream. Seeing it from a neurosurgeons perspective he said:

I was aware after the even that my neo cortex had not been working. It was damaged. In other words, the part of my brain that would cause hallucinations or dreams was in fact de activated.

'When I entered the Realm it was from a birds eye view. I couldn't remember who I was. Then the blinders came of, so to speak and I saw this real ultra crisp gateway, then beautiful flowers and butterfly's. With Angels and Souls dancing around me. The colors were beyond the Rainbow, some which I had never seen before.

When asked what Heaven looked and felt like he stated:

It was loving, caressing, and comforting. There was nothing to fear. I could feel the Prayers of my family around my bedside, but didn't know who they were at the time. And then I was told I had a choice to come back'

When he was asked whether he had now found religion he stated that he always went to Church now. And he has realised that all religions are on the right path. But when one talks about their religion being the only one, he says that he now knows this is not true. Each and every religion has its place, as long as love and cherishing are there.

He was asked about skeptics. He replied that scientists will never come close to understanding the true meaning of what is out there. Whether you call it Heaven or just believe. Its still the biggest mystery of how it happens. As for skeptics, they will always feel this way unless it happens to them.

A Past Life Nutshell.

So whether you believe in life before life, reincarnation, children going to Heaven then coming back with amazing stories or anything else, you have to admit that these occurrences are world wide. Its not just adults with a vivid imagination. Its children too. And yes, I agree before you say it. Children have vivid imaginations. But under duress?

Would a child really see Heaven, meet a relative or see Jesus? What about meeting a lost sister that you never knew you had? How does that work?

To be honest, I doubt if anybody will ever really know. Well at least while we are down here on earth. And yet, after reading and researching these stories, it does make my heart feel glad to know that maybe somewhere up there, is a place that we call Heaven.

This is fascinating, Nell. One day, in my very early childhood, I was with my father after he had been away and it was very emotional. I remembered the sky being an unusual shade of deep blue that day and the memory has stayed with me. Many years later, I was out walking with my two-year-old daughter who chose that moment to look at the sky and say to me, "Look, Mummy. The sky is the same colour of blue as it was that day with your dad when you were little." She was right. No, we had never talked about it. She just knew. It left me with far more questions than answers.

This is amazing Nell. I have always felt that i lived before. I see things that are familiar, yet i have never been there before. I witnessed a man who was in a coma, dying and had never opened his eyes. He opened his eyes, looked up to the ceiling, smiled and died that night. He had the most tranquil look on his face. I have always believed he saw something that made him happy, by the way he was a minister, only in his thirties, dying from bone cancer...

Wonderful hub, Nell. When my daughter was a toddler, she claimed to talk to and see her grandmother who had been deceased since my daughter was 18 months old. She had such positive and vibrant conversations with my husband's mother, and the contents left us with the impression that somehow maybe that was possible. She no longer connects with her now that she is older.

My mother died when I was heavily pregnant, just weeks before my youngest child was born. The baby had a bright red strawberry birthmark in exactly the same position as my mother's life-long birthmark. It faded within days, but we were all amazed by the 'coincidence'.

If my daughter is my mother re-incarnated, I am pleased she is having such a happy childhood this time around but it makes no difference to me whether she is or not.

That fleeting birthmark, however, encourages me to suspect they crossed paths at some time. It was a lovely hint that her grandmother was telling us she'd met the newest addition to our family.

Nell, this is fascinating stuff. And you know what, I feel a lot better now knowing that others have these past-life experiences that aren't just dreams. I have had them on several occasions and they are always the same. I am in a dark bedroom looking over at a corner that has a large chest of drawers. It feels like I'm in the late 1800's somehow. Though I don't ever see him, I know that this room belongs to Abraham Lincoln!

I learned after telling this dream to my Mom one day, that in the family genealogy my grandfather had finished, there was a connection to Abraham Lincoln! I was blown away, but thought I had maybe heard it before that and forgotten, and then dreamed about it?!

Anyway, I voted this way Up+++ and thanks for sharing!

Great article. voted up, awesome and interesting.

the story about the boy with the burst appendix was also my story. At age 8 mine burst as well. The memories of what i saw, felt, and heard, from the time i passed out and reawakened after the surgery are still quite vivid in my mind.

The inner peace was the most overwhelming of the whole experience. I also remember i did not want to come back here and begged them to let me stay there. I was told i had a purpose to fulfill and it was imperative that i go back. I was crying when they send me back to my body because i really did not want to come back here.

I have no idea if i ever fulfilled my purpose, or if it is yet to be, but i do know i am not afraid of death. After i retired was given a task to perform and have tried to do it in the best way i can.

The saddest thing (knowledge wise) that i brought back was that humanity had taken a wrong turn somewhere over the past several thousand years and i was to play a small part in reversing that trend.

My articles about organized religion being a negative force in our life is still quite vivid in my mind. My objective is to help negate the negative influences of organized religions - but at the same time reinforce the concept of promoting spirituality, as they certainly are not one and the same. Many find this concept blasphemous and distasteful because of their indoctrination into the religion of their parents.

We must learn, and accept that fact, and further understand that we are two distinct parts: the body and the soul (the essence of our being) and that the soul needs nourishment as does the body. Our essence feeds on love and learning, and the negative effects of hatred and intolerance of others drains us of our life's energy.

We all come from the same place and all will return to that place after our physical life ends.

Many return for a variety of reasons, some by choice for some unfulfilled mission not accomplished during a current lifetime, others for retribution for interfering in the life journey of others around us.

What humans call "hell" is only a concept in their physical minds. We may destroy the body, but we cannot destroy the essence within. Those who destroy another soul's journey MUST return in order to be able to move on to the next step in our soul's evolution.

Many people ask me how i know this stuff, i can only answer, i just do.

Hi Nell, I have to say that it's quite a while since I read such a fascinating hub.

I loved in particular the accounts from the children, and also the surgeon. Children's accounts are so simple and they tell things as they are. The surgeon's is also fascinating because of his previous sceptism and the fact that he is basically saying, science is nowhere near understanding the afterlife and so on - when looking at the paranormal this is obvious. Either they shun it or the folks investigating a non-physical world areusing clumsy physical gadgets. Having said that if it wasn't for the paranormal investigators our knowledge would still be very elementary. But as I've always believed, science just isn't good enough, at least yet, to even have a hope of understanding all the worlds beyond the physical, although quantum physics is maybe the nearest.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on, this was an excellent and fascinating hub, voted up + shared!!

I do tend to agree with you about organised religion, I always call it the 'wood for the trees' syndrome. In regards to the deja vu phenomenon- some psychics believe that when we experience deje vu it means we are exactly where we are supposed to be in our lifetime.

This is supposing that it is true that when we come to this plane of existence it is with a predestined plan. Much like taking a college course - we know what the course is about, we study the material, learn all we can about that subject, then exit the college course - hopefully with the attainment of the appropriate knowledge intended when we started.

But, as with life, stuff happens that cause us to not complete the course we signed up for.

So, experience a deja vu moment is just a confirmation that we are where we are supposed to be.

Hi again d. william, I never thought of that, deja vu may well be showing us that we are in the right place, I do get times when I just know when someone is going to be somewhere, or the actual deja vu experience, great point. and yes we do get pushed off of our paths sometimes, so in a sense deja vu is just showing us that we are back where we should be, thanks so much for coming back, nell

Hi Deb, I will have to look into that, I am sure there are those out there that believed they were an animal, and to be honest I quite believe it. If we were people before, why not animals? sometimes strange things do happen. I remember once a couple of years ago something odd or should I say totally spooky happened to me. I lost my best friend after 40 years. She always said she would come back as a dog, then laughed. at this particular time about a year after her passing, I was sitting down the park, a huge park by the way, and suddenly from the other side of the park a woman was walking with her dog. she let the dog of the lead, and without deviating from its path across the grass, it shot straight over to me, there were hundreds of people on the grass, picnicking etc, and it ignored them. It shot over straight to me, jumped on my lap and stayed there! I didn't know the woman or the dog, it was a small white terrier, and when the woman called it, it wouldn't move, just licked my hand, snuffled up to me and lay on my lap. she had to physically pull it off me, and totally apologised. I was left stunned, bewildered and totally laughing, afterwards I thought...was it? could it have been? thanks as always, nell

Nell, very interesting. You just write the most interesting articles. I have not had a before birth experience, but I have had a near death experience. I have seen the white light; I left my body and was watching myself - I was ill at the time. I also have premonitions in my dreams at night. I dream, wake up and don't remember the dream, then live the dream some time later and realize I had dreamed it. I also have premonition dreams that I do remember when I wake up and they do come true in the future. This can be good or bad, depending on the dream. I don't talk about it much because people think I am looney. But, in this context, I don't feel so bad about revealing this. I think there is much we have to learn about our subconscious and therefore I don't rule out reincarnation. After all, if one believes in God, anything is possible, right?

Nell: I know I'm not nuts but I live in the midwest in America and the stereotype of the midwestern repressed person is alive and well here in Ohio. I don't quite fit that persona and so I sometimes stick out a bit here. Boy, I could tell you stories. lol Actually, I have a European mindset more than an American one, but I do love America. OKAY, this is crazy...because I just posted a video to my Youtube channel about this. It's called "Reincarnation, Soul Creation & the Womb of the Universe". And I talk about my theory as to when souls were initially created and where we go after we die and before rebirth! There is SO much synchronicity going on lately for me...it's nuts! I read the book "Heaven Is Real" and that boy's parents were crazy to let it go on that long. That boy clearly needed to go the emergency room sooner. It makes me sick to think of him suffering like that.

That being said, his story does make you think. He knew about things that were happening while he was in surgery. He knew about people he had never met. I do believe heaven is real. The rest of the details, I guess we'll all just have to wait to find out.

Nell, this is such a well-written and informative hub. I am very impressed.

I have always believed that I lived before this life and can recall at least past lifes. I often think I should try and research to find truths in my past life recalls, so others will believe me. Maybe I will try this some day. My grandson, at the age of three, told me about the the same past life incident my father had told me, many years before my grandson was born.

There is one instance where I knew where I was just prior to being born into this life -- I was in a huge temple of white marble with a spiritual teacher. He was telling me things I needed to learn in this life.

There are many marvelous and profound things our spirits know and sometimes we remember, yet most of it cannot be proven, which I find quite sad.

Thank you for writing about this subject, Nell. Voted all but funny.

Dr. Eben Alexander’s story is quite remarkable. PBE as well as NDE are indeed experiences beyond scientific explanation. And I agree with you, Nell, stories like this also make my heart feel glad to know that maybe somewhere up there, is a place called Heaven, or another chance to be born as a baby again. Sadly, I can’t remember my previous lives, although I have had the strangest experience when I walked for the first time on those cobble-stone alleys in the city centre of Utrecht. I could swear I walked on those stones before. Maybe the memories of previous lives are imprinted in our genes. Thought-provoking hub!

This was a very interesting article. The one I like to comment on is for one near-death experiences. I just don't believe in a person coming so close to death to where they can experience seeing relatives that have die. I think death is absolute. I just don't believe that God design death to be cheated. I think that once you die that's it. I also believe that we are all predestined to die at a certain time and place. I know there are people that truly believe that they have had a near-death experience. But strongly believe that this is just a way for our brains to deal with the trauma that is going in the body at that particular time .

Personally, I know there's something after death. I know it may sound weird but sometimes I blank out for a few seconds, maybe a minute. I visualize seeing the past, sometimes hundreds of years ago. As quick as it happens, it's gone. Never understood it, maybe once a month or two. I believe we can't even come close to understanding it all. It's a touching topic, even inspirational. Long ago - say around 10 years by today's estimate - and I am only 26 years old, I once dreamed of a photograph that I to this day have still not have seen, of an elderly woman, a man to her left, a small dog and a large mirror behind them. What I had come to immediately recognize was this was in fact in my grandmother's house in Dallas, Texas - while I live in Arizona.

The following day, I had contacted my mother - whom lives here in Arizona - described the photograph and she detailed I may have dreamed of my great-grandmother whom had passed away sometime before I was born - exactly when is still unknown. She had gone on to further detail the man in the photograph as my great-grandmother's long time church "friend".

That same day, I contacted my grandmother in Texas and described the photograph in detail - to include what the two were wearing and the kind of breed the small dog was. My grandmother recollected she still has that photograph.

But again, to this day, I have not been back yet to see this photograph. Every time I had been in that house, I had always felt calm, at peace and happy. Time itself seemed to have slowed as it were - that kind of feeling.

Soon, I hope to visit my grandparents in Texas and find the courage to ask for the very picture I dreamed of.

Details: Elderly woman, glasses, white hair, white sun-flower dress. The man next to her, dark pants, dark glasses, grey hair. Gold flower trimmed mirror behind them.

Story goes that after the man had passed away shortly following my great-grandmother's passing, the dog in the photo continuously howled for several nights following.

I may be a Celtic Pagan (only one in my family) -- as we do have a Celtic Heritage -- but I am a spiritual man whom strongly believes in life after death and potentiality for spirits, other-worlds, etc....

Ok if when your dad ejaculated into your mum, and sperms went swimming by the thousands/millions racing to mums ova, you were the first sperm to get there. There was no awareness before that, coz you never existed until that point which was pure luck out of many many sperms, so how can there be awareness after death. Birth is nothing miraculous , it's Oogenesis , biological, death is just the reversed process.

    • profile image

I have my own thought on reincarnation and also deja vu that all tie together. It was the only way I could make sense of my memories as I grew up. When I was 5 years old I was telling my mother about the time we all went to a monster truck show. I named everyone there, and also told her everything that went on during the show in detail. Which trucks enter when, and even how the fireworks looked. She looked at me with an uneasy expression on her face and told me that I wasn't there at the show with everyone. Apparently she had been around 3 months pregnant with me during the

show. My older sister was with a babysitter and still to this day doesn't know about the monster truck show. Needless to say, it is odd to me that I would have those memories and have been able to explain them to someone who had been there. I also have memories of out of body experiences as a child watching myself play and be with my parents. I remember this happening for a long time as if I wasn't myself, but rather some other entity watching the boy I would become. Sounds creepy yes, but I don't really know how to put it. The earliest memory I have a child was when I was 3 years old. It was like waking up for the first time.I had no recollection of the previous day or anything before that besides the

      memories I have already mentioned.

I know that the life force = energy, which does not die, but moves to a different plane. Energy shifts forms; but cannot be destroyed.

As for "seeing Jesus," I think that is a matter of whatever religious indoctrination the child may have had to that point in their lives. Surely a Buddhist child would not make such a claim, nor a child from an atheist family.

As an atheist myself, I don't believe in "heaven" or "hell," but I do believe there is another plane of existence, and probably reincarnation as well.

I believe anything is possible. I believe our lives are based on the quetion of free will. Then it is a journey to spiritual maturity. I am uncertain that people live countless lives. I do believe that ones life taken before its time may come back. God only knows how much time you will be given however. Example, A young child would come back because it makes sense that they would to have free will and to mature spiritually like everyone else. Hitler on the other hand probably made his choices. I wonder, do we remember everything that happened in this life in our next life? If we do then we are just begining our journey. Spiritually we are still infants when we leave this place. Then I wonder did we fail so bad that we came here. Maybe we are just getting another chance to get it right. To get it right we can not be blinded by this World and its Earthly agenda to follow the evil of this World. We always have to do the right thing regardless of consequences to ourselves to save our souls.
