Life's Unexpected Lessons- 10: Difficult Times
Keep the Faith!
Have you ever taken the time to stop, look around yourself, and see how truly blessed you are? It is very easy to focus on and get weighed down with all the things we feel are wrong in our life but how many times have you actually tried to reverse your thought processes and focus on what is right?
Too many of us want the rest of the world to look at us and say, “poor you,” or “how can you stand it?” Yet this only adds fuel to the negative thoughts already filling our brain. And yes, at one time or another, we all have to go through those difficult and trying times …for some they come, then pass … for others they seem to come and stick around forever.
Look at those who have been diagnosed with a permanent, chronic illness or someone who has lost a loved one. This type of trial does not go away and you think these individuals would be the most unaware of their blessings … yet often the opposite it the case. Those with burdens that they must handle every day of their life often are the ones most aware of their blessings in spite of what they have lost and are still trying to lift the spirits of the ones who have troubles that can be gotten through and moved past!
Why do we have the tendency to dwell on the times of trouble rather than rejoice in the times of happiness? It is too easy to wallow in our sadness or in our depression and seek the pity of others when we are faced with trials and tribulations. The solution is so simple – all we need to do is ask God for strength and guidance through it. As it states in Psalm 4:1, “Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.”
Why do so many people not even think to call upon God during these difficult, despairing times but rather wish to curse Him? God the Father created us in love and has loved us from the beginning of time … why is it so hard to accept something so beautiful, so free, so pure? Has our society become so downtrodden that it is no longer possible for many to believe in or have faith in such an unconditional love? Don’t ever forget that “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17.
God and His Son are here and have been here all along to make things better for us, not worse. Remember His love when things take a turn for the worse and have faith; ask Him for guidance and He will see you through anything!
