Living Life As a Deaf Minister.
Learning as I Go
Being a deaf minister or pastor is not an easy task. There are not enough supports for the deaf pastors, minister, chaplains, and preachers. In the hearing world, they would see deaf ministry or church as a minority instead of being equal to the hearing church. We have about 28 millions deaf not including the hard of hearing in the USA today. USA probably have much more than that.
Being hard of hearing (some would preferred to be called deaf) is not easy. We can't hear nor participate in many hearing events such as attending hearing church. Even when some churches have an interpreter which is better than none, most of them prefer deaf pastors who can understand where there are coming from in the deaf world.
So how do i reach people who are deaf to Christ? First of all, I pray. Every pastors who are either hearing or deaf, should pray often.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV
" pray without ceasing"
Never stop praying. God always hear your prayers. As a deaf minister or pastor, I am always learning through the Holy Spirit as I go. Everyday is a challenge that I can overcome not by my willpower but through the confidence of knowing that God is for me, not against me. Jesus died for us so that we can live life abundantly. So as a deaf minister, prayers are very important to me and it helps me to humble myself as a man and preacher of the Word of God.
Challenges helps me grow not only as a pastor or minister but as a man. Being a man is hard (chuckles) but you know, I am enjoying life in Christ. Yes, life is not perfect but we can make life full of joy when we all put our trust in the Most High. We are sons (daughters too!) of our Heavenly Father and He wants us to reign in Life through the Only Son of God who paid our price on the Cross and His name is Jesus!
