Look Here! 'Let us Fix our Eyes on Jesus...' Heb. 12:2,3 - A Short Devotional
Hebrews 12 verses 2 and 3 say, 'Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith...so that we will not grow weary and lose heart'.
So ... what is it that you are looking at? What is it that catches your attention?
It may be the latest episode of your favourite television series; the latest edition of your favourite sports magazine; the state of your cluttered garage; your weight; the re-shuffle in the line-up of your favourite football team; your Visa Card statement; the three or four grey hairs you found when you were looking at yourself in the mirror this morning; or your rapidly growing 'to do' list for the next month? Aaaaah!
As important as some of these things may be, they have the potential to cause you to 'grow weary and lose heart'. What is even more important, is to be looking to Jesus and to 'fix' your eyes (focus, give attention to and lean in towards) Him.
Set Your Sights on ... Christ
Colossians 3 Verses 1 to 3 say, 'Since we have already been raised to this new life with Christ, let us set our sights on the realities of Heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God's right hand. Set your heart and affection on the things of Heaven above the everyday things of this earth. For you have died to this life and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.'
Jesus is the Initiator and the Creator of your faith. He knows how it's all meant to work - this life of ours. He is also the Perfecter of our faith - the one who will so magnificently bring it to fullness and completion.
Jesus is the WAY through every challenging situation you encounter. (There is always a way through with Him). He is the WAY ahead to your future and fulfillment of the dreams and longings in your heart.
Jesus is the one who speaks the TRUTH about who you really truly are and what you dan do - words you can trust your life and future on.
Jesus is the one who will supply you with the stamina and ability to LIVE your LIFE with excellence - embracing the ups and downs of life - routine, family, work and so on, which are all part of the adventure that is life.
Jesus is the one who can give you a tangible strong thick feeling (assurance) of peace in your heart, in spite of the craziness going on around you.
Jesus is the one who LOVES you - all of you - unconditionally, all the time and forever.
Can I encourage you - in the midst of everything else you have to focus on and keep an eye on today, this week, this next season and in the future - remember to also be looking to Jesus and seek to keep Him centre stage, in your direct line of sight.
My prayer is that 'your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called - His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance.' (Ephesians 1:18).
