Love-AHAVAH-אהבה

How might one describe LOVE?

Love, or ahavah (אהבה) in Hebrew, is not so much an idea or feeling of emotion as it is a person and his or her choice. Yochanan Aleph (1 John) 4:8 says, “The one who does not love does not know Elohim, for Elohim is love.” Elohim (G-d) is love! Elohim is love and therefore loves and is loving. But, what exactly is the concept of love and loves and loving? Ahavah (אהבה) is more about choosing or not choosing. Elohim chose to create a space where the waters were separated for life to be created; we see this in Who He is … Elohim (אלהימ); the מ, or mem, symbolizes water or waters.

to CHOOSE ... to give GRACE ... to LOVE

Let us also consider Ya’aqov (Jacob) and Esav (Esau) in Bereshit (Genesis) 25:27-29; “And the boys grew up. And Esav became a man knowing how to hunt, a man of the field, while Ya’aqov was a complete man, dwelling in tents. And Yitzaq loved Esav because he ate of his wild game, but Ribqah loved Ya’aqov.” Did Yitzaq (Isaac) truly love one son, Esav, while hating the other, Ya’aqov? Did Ribqah (Rebekah) truly love one son, Ya’aqov, while hating the other, Esav? No, father and mother merely chose the company of one son over the other (i.e.-favoritism).

Let us further consider the Scripture of Mal’aki (Malachi) 1:2-3; “The message of the word of YeHoVaH to Yisra’el by Mal’aki. ‘I have loved you,’ said YeHoVaH. ‘But you asked, “In what way have You loved us?” Was not Esav Ya’aqov’s brother?’ declares YeHoVaH. ‘And I loved Ya’aqov.’” Did YeHoVaH truly love only Ya’aqov while at the same time showing hatred toward Esav? No! YeHoVaH merely states that His purpose would be accomplished through the choosing of Ya’aqov, not the choosing of Esav. Bereshit (Genesis) 25:23 says, “And YeHoVaH said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your body. And one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older serve the younger.’” It was YeHoVaH choice and purpose to have the older brother, Esav, serve the younger brother, Ya’aqov. Esav had his own choice to make- he could choose to obey Elohim and his parents or he could choose to disobey Elohim and his parents. Esav chose to live in open rebellion against Elohim and his parents.

Ancient Pictorial Symbols

Aleph … א … in the ancient language is pictured as an ox head and is the symbol for a leader or for he who is first.

Hey … ה … in the ancient language is pictured as a man with his arms lifted toward Heaven and is the symbol for a revelation or that which is revealed, grace, or unmerited favor.

Vet … ב … in the ancient language is pictured a standing structure (i.e.-a tent or a house) and is the symbol for he who is second or a division of (e.g.-separating the external from the internal), or a help of or to (or a hinder of or to, depending on the context it is used in).

Grace, being unmerited favor, is synonymous with Elohim being love and loving. Yochanan (John) 3:16 says, “For Elohim so loved the world that He gave His only brought-forth Son, so that everyone who believes in HIm should not perish but possess everlasting life.”

אהבה … Love ... Behold, YeHoVaH the Avva Who gives grace. Behold, Yehshua the Son Who gives grace.

Gematria of ahavah (אהבה; love)

Now, let us consider the gematria of the symbol-word, ahavah (אהבה; love)- this will give us an even more clear picture of Elohim’s amazing choosing/grace/love.

Aleph … א … is represented by the number 1

Hey … ה … is represented by the number 5

Vet … ב … is represented by the number 2

Hey … ה … is represented by the number 5

YeHoVaH’s grace and Yehshua’s grace, 1 + 5 + 2 + 5 = 13. In this number 13, there are 13 complete “loves” that encompass and envelope the choosing/loving/grace of both YeHoVaH and Yehshua.

1.) The love that YeHoVaH has for Yisra’el.

2.) The love that Yisra’el has for YeHoVaH.

3.) The love that a master has for his disciple.

4.) The love that a disciple has for his master.

5.) The love between each of the master’s disciples.
