Why Malayalee Pentecostals not wear Ornaments

Why Keralite Pentecostals do not wear ornaments?

In Kerala many pentecostal groups do not wear ornaments. If you ask "why you are not wearing ornaments?", the new generation has different answers.

Now I remember the story of a Pandit (or called Poojari which means the person perform the rituals at the temple). One pandit in a certain village bought a cute pet cat. This cat used to eat with the Pandit and sleep with him. Wherever he goes, the cat follows him. Pandit loved the cat and took care of it.

As part of the worship ritual, this pandit has to offer milk to his God in the temple. As soon as the cat sees the milk, it drank the milk. This cat doesn't know whether it is offered to God or cat. Few times the cat came and drink the milk which is to be offered to the God. To avoid such embarrassing situation Pandit started to tie the cat to a tree before he perform his worship rituals. It was his habit to tie the cat before he perform the pooja (worship). After the worship, he release the cat. Years passed and the the pandit died. His son started to perform the worship rituals. He continued the custom of tie the cat before the worship.

And it become the part of the worship ritual. Years passed and the the cat also died. Now the children of the pandit does not know why they tie the cat before the worship. They thought and felt to complete the ritual, they have to tie a cat. They couldn't find a cat in their village. They felt that their worship is not complete and did not find satisfaction. So they brought a cat from the near by village. After brining the cat, they tied it to a tree and did their worship ritual. Now they are satisfied.

Originally, to avoid the cat from drinking the milk which was set aside for the worship was the basic idea of tie the cat to a tree. But now it become part of the ritual.

I found many of the decedents Malayalee Pentecostals are in the same boat where the decedents of the above pandit. Many of them does not know why the forefathers decided to avoid ornaments. Now many of the new generations pastors as well as believers searching bible to find out why they are not wearing ornaments. Few denominations of Kerala Pentecostals will not baptize you if you are wearing ornaments. (Now new generation or some new groups allow to wear ornaments)

Ornaments and Pentecostals in Kerala

To know the reason for abandoning ornaments well, we need to understand the social as well as the cultural situation of the time when our our forefathers came to faith and received the gift of Holy Spirit. Social status at that time was determined by the amount of Gold and Silver ornaments one wear. In marriages, a part of dowry was given as gold ornaments. The weight of gold ornaments determines the status of the family in the society at that time. Those who are rich used to wear a lot of God ornaments. Those who are poor used to wear ornaments made of glass, plastic or stone beads. In marriage and other occasions gold and silver ornaments were given as gifts.

When our forefathers came to faith, many of them were denied possession and wealth from their parents and relatives. Their new found faith and speaking in tongues were treated as madness. In marriages and special occasions, they were not invited and denied entry. Most of them have to rebuild their life from scratch. But they were so strong in their faith. They found happiness in Jesus and the worship in spirit more than anything else. They left everything for their faith. Many of them were thrown out of their family. They spend many days without food or shelter. Many were eating leaf or root of plants to survive. When they were not able to eat food, how do you expect them to wear ornaments.

They took a joint decision to abstain from divorce, wearing ornaments, remarriage of divorced, smoking, drinking wine, going to theater to watch commercial movie, watching drama or dance along with unbelievers etc. It was a requirements for the believers to avoid such things to get baptized and to join a pentecostal church. If anyone found violating these teachings, were not allowed to say testimony in the church and were dismissed those who did not heed the correction. It was done to keep the holiness in the community and gathering.

At that time there were miracles happened among them. Many of those who were afflicted by the evil spirits were delivered by the ministry of anointed pastors. There were well known prophets among them. Fasting prayers and conventions conducted frequently and many were come to faith.

One of the Bible verse used to point out why they should not wear ornaments were 1 Timothy 2:9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.

Wearing white dress was a peculiar tradition in the pentecostal fading now a days. In the olden days when they gathered together, they were wearing white dress as much as they can separated them from others. It was insisted by the leaders to be white (pure) inside and outside. Their Love of God stood above all things.

They realized that love of God is more precious than silver or Gold. To maintain equality, they decided not to wear Gold or Silver or other ornaments. They wanted to have a separate identity. They decided that if someone who is not willing leave ornaments for the sake of God, is not worthy to follow God. To weed out the half minted people and create a strong and faithful group, they decided that anyone want to join them must abstain from wearing any kind of ornaments. If you are not willing to give up your ornaments, you are not worthy to follow Jesus. That was their reason to abstain from wearing ornaments. Whether they are in USA or UK, North India or in South India, they keep their identity and the rules set by their forefathers.

The basic aim for abstaining from ornaments is that to keep a separate identity from the world. Otherwise the leaders could have advise the believers that they could wear cheap ornaments made of plastic or natural materials. But they wanted to keep an identity. This identity is a declaration to the world that you are committed your life to Jesus and you will serve Him all through your life. In your happy days and in your sorrowful days, in your abundance and in your scarcity you will follow Jesus and his teachings. It is the evidence of your commitment. This responsibility of being recognized is also a way of keeping ourselves from self-destructive habits, such as smoking, drinking, and other worldly desires.

Just like when a Sikh wear bana, turban, white bana, kara, beard, he is declaring that he is committed and have dedicated the self to the Guru and shall serve ALL even those who want to cheat you, or hurt you.

So not wearing ornament is your commitment to do good and follow Jesus and serve the mankind. If you are willing to do that, you are welcome to join the pentecostal group. A committed group.

Giving below the reasons to abstain from ornaments.

1. God is more than anything else and it is a commitment to God.
2. They are willing to spent a portion their income for spreading the Gospel.
3. Maintain Equality.
4. To test the Love of God.
5. They found that there is no use in stacking money by amassing Gold or Silver.
6. They find it useful investing in property and education of children than buying Gold which will reduce its weight through constant use.
7. Many did not had money to buy gold

The Origin of Ornaments

Recently we understand that from the Dead Sea Scrolls we found the Second Book of Adam and Eve. In the 20th Chapter Vs. 31 says "And when they looked at the daughters of Cain, at their beautiful figures, and at their hands and feet dyed with colour, and tattooed in ornaments on their faces, the fire of sin was kindled in them."

Ornaments were introduced by Satan to the Sons of Cain who were sinful. They put on ornaments, painted their bodies, dyed their hair and skin with colours to attract people. Honestly, use of ornaments, dyed hair, coloured body parts and hands were used to attract the opposite sex. It is a tool of Satan. Hence it is advised not to be an agent of Satan wherever you are.

Ornaments and Israelites

In Exodus 33: 3-6 we can see that the Israelites stopped wearing ornaments right after the incident of Aaron made a The Golden Calf which displeased the God. Please read the following verses which clearly says why Israelites stopped wearing ornaments. I recommend you to read the complete chapter of Exodus 32 and 33. Here is the reproduction of Exodus 33: 3-6 . 3Go upto a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, because you are an obstinate people, and I might destroy you on the way.”

4When the people heard this sad word, they went into mourning, and none of them put on his ornaments. 5For the LORD had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israel, ‘You are an obstinate people; should I go up in your midst for one moment, I would destroy you. Now therefore, put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what I shall do with you.’” 6So the sons of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments, from Mount Horeb onward. Though Im orthodox, I have some cousins who are penti, and Ive seen a pattern going on...Ive noticed that since some penti women cant wear jewelry during their wedding, they make up for it by wearing very expensive saris/lehengas THAT HAS TONS OF JEWELS ON IT. The irony? So now, what makes them different from women who wear these jewels on their body? So absurd and hypocritical..

Amen sister. The whole idea of not wearing jewellery could have stemmed from the fact that back in the ancient days they used to pierce the ears of their slaves. Also in Indian culture gold is almost worshipped by the nation. People seem to value it more than life sometimes. This in addition to the idea of 'standing out' and giving God more 'praise' than self-adornment could be the reason why Pentecostals in Kerala choose not to wear jewellery. Which is all fair and well if one makes a personal choice to do so. However when this becomes forced; it loses meaning and people (and younger generations) who do not make this choice for themselves begin to feel alienated and distant. They also feel demonised and would feel like they've committed a sin in a scenario where they wish they could wear jewellery but cannot wear any in order to keep up appearances. The Kerala Pentecostal community are extremely judgemental and seem to care more about what other PEOPLE think of them as opposed to what God would think. It's sad that it's become that way. People lose sight of God and become obsessed with technicalities culture and traditions (which is ironic). If someone chooses to not wear jewellery; fair enough - your choice. But forcing someone to do so; and condemning them when they want to wear jewellery and wants to continue praising God/ coming to church and being close to him? Then we have a HUGE problem.

I am Indian Orthodox in faith, but my boyfriend is pentecostal. He is not forcing me to get baptized into the pentecostal church but I hope his parents don't force me to join. If I join the pentecostal church, I do not want to be forced to abstain from my jewelry. I agree with the content of the article, there is no need to abstain from jewelry to prove your devotion to Jesus. The real devotion lies in our hearts and if we are willing to let him in, just bc I wear jewels, doesn't mean God will not enter my heart. Abstaining from jewelry should be a personal choice. Just bc I wear jewelry doesn't make me an evil person or any lesser than someone who wears no jewelry. If the person who wears no jewelry sin and I sin, God will not only punish me, but will also punish the person wearing no jewelry THE SAME WAY, at that point WE ARE BOTH SINNERS AND DESERVING OF THE SAME PUNISHMENT, GOD WILL NOT EXCUSE THE PERSON WEARING NO JEWELRY BC HE/SHE WANTED TO SHOW MODESTY AND SHOW THAT HE/SHE RECEIVED THE GIFT OF THE SPIRIT. THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL LIE WITHIN YOUR HEART NOT WHETHER YOU WEAR JEWELRY OR NOT

This whole article highlights why Kerala Pentecostals are a bunch of self-righteous, judgemental bunch of folks that have lost God through obsession with tradition, and confusing religion with culture.

Dear friends as mentioned by some its true that pentacostals must have a separated life and by not wearing ornaments we should be a witness.when God created eve i think he didnt make a mistake by not piercing her nose or ears.In the old testament we read that ornaments were used by the ishmalites.Judges 8:24-26.When God told Jacob to return to bethel,Gen 35,he told his family to purify themselves and they removed their earings. Before arriving to conclusions we should also find the source from where things originate because Satan will always have a grip on us if the source is not from God.Ornaments were basicaly used to adorn idols. We have adopted things without Gods consent. If we sincerely serve God then he will guide us in all truth so we need not worry about what others are doing.Ask the master if He is pleased with our ornaments, expensive clothings etc...We should be sensitive to the holy spirit and yield to Gods words.Abstain from every FORM of evil.1Thess5:22.

It's honestly about not letting wordly things take control of you. For example, wear jewellery, but don't love it so much that you depend on it. worship it etc. People can drink alcohol, but have enough self control to not get drunk and let alcohol control you. Don't love anything more than Christ/God is the real message. But obviously people like you with a superiority complex have distorted it into an exclusive club of people who judge everyone else. You rely on and care about how you appear to others, and what they think of you more than the work God wants you to do.

      This makes me so annoyed.

Furthermore, if you really are a child of God, you'll have the self control and the fear of God to mimic what the non-believers do, even if you wear jewellery, or watch a movie or practice dancing. You will then use that opportunity to spread the word of God.

Dancing can be used to worship the Lord, and it's considered bad by Kerala Pentecostal people. You judge and think yourself better than other people who wear jewellery etc. But I bet you plait your hair? That's wrong too according to your interpretation. You are judging people, which is against the Bible. Bible teaches LOVE and KINDNESS and UNDERSTANDING.

It's a shame people like you push young Christians away from God.

What a load of rubbish. This isn't the 12th century. Watching a movie, or wearing a necklace doesn't hinder my faith and love that I have for my God. I am sorry you are stuck in the past; you're making God a ritual/tradition and underestimating his power. Younger generation are forced to follow these traditions and cultures that they don't believe in and move away from God because of such lies. These younger generation lose faith and turn to sinful things when they are not under the scrutinising eye of their relatives, because their faith does not have foundation. I am truly saddened by a horrible bunch of people from the older generation pushing their culture ideals on the younger ones claiming it's religion. The truth is far from it, and they need to understand that they need to relate to these new generations in new ways.

Religion and culture pushes people away from God. Bible scriptures and prayer create strong, true believers. Judgemental, disgusting people from Pentecostal Kerala are destroying Christianity and distorting the word/work of God!!!

Sirji, I do not want to offend others; if they find peace and happiness let them not wear Gold, but at the same time they should not amass wealth, if they are true Christians. As far as I know God never forbids His people from anything-He wants us to rejoice, and also enjoy the life He has give to us, but it all depends how one look at the Basic Tenants and the Foundation of the Scriptures. Unfortunately, people twist the Word of God to suit their convenience, and profit.

Please stop mentioning Pentecostal don't use ornaments. I am a Pentecost and I use Gold. Their is nothing bed in it. God says he look into the heart. Its a ritual which IPC (Mallu Pentecostal ) only follow. I know many IPC people don't wear GOLD but drink alcohols and probably they are taking from Lord's Table also. I am not saying about all. I do know majority of them are in lord's side. However, its non sense to say no to someone if he wants to take part in Lord's Table on the basis of Gold. Bible says Blood of Jesus is our riotousness not the GOLD. GOD BLESS YOU ALL IN JESUS NAME...........

Thanks Vineesh...i didnt read all others comments, but i read your comments. I dont want judge anyone here before judge myself. These kind of idol things..ornaments,dresses and posh life style in our view its always highlighting because we are giving the priority to monitor those with others. God always watching our thoughts and works. We are in the last minutes of coming Jesus. Come and lets love together with poor and rich.

When i become believer i was in saudi and i never had any kind of feeling about loosing ornaments, because only wedding ring was it. If you have more items in your body and you proudly wearing that as it is part of your personality. So it cant be easy to remove that for a particular matter. If anyone loosing himself due to his believes, God says he will get back it all by 100 times. Here we dont have enough time to judge others, we have to be ready for our eternal life. Just be happy in jesus and love others in all matters as Jesus did.

Lol.hey anti-ornamenties get pair of shoes when u go to heaven bcoz the heavens streets r made of gold n jewels. Next time when u meet a person who is wearing ornament, talk to him may be he is in some kind of problem, help him.dont judge him.i noticed these people they are hardend their heart. When they removed their ornaments they also removed their kindness, equality. They just hate the people who use the ornament. I really dont understand dat when jesus come back, is he coming back for some typical pentecostal mallus or for the whole believers. If wearing ornament is worldly and idol juz check your own me you will find more than that. You are hiding lots of idols in your life.why you people are silent when we talk about your posh life expensive cloths and luxuary cars , your expensive homes? Pastor v c abraham ( kannur ag church) build a house of 80 lacks. N some of his sheeps are still strugling for their stomec. Why all dis?removing gold is not a bridge to heaven. Come out from your tredition and share gospel through your life style not with your phisical outlook. You can speak gospel without opening your your neighbor first. I know its very hard coz they know you well.

What a great paradox that the believers of the same Pentecostals in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka can wear ornaments but the believers in Kerala can't wear! If wearing ornaments is a sin, how the believers of the same denomination in another state can lead a sinful life? It is the age old traditions started by the Pentecostal leaders of Kerala with certain influence from the Western missionaries. These people need to study the word of GOD in detail rather than blindly following some man-made traditions.

Ok I accept your explanation, but Bible has never said not to wear jewels and to wear white and white. Sir please stop being like muslims, muslims think that God will only look at the outside of the person and not the inside (anyway their God is not our God). If you show that by outside you white and clean but on the inside you are a major sinner and you wear the darkest clothes(spiritually), what can you get from that. I've seen and heard about what nowadays Pentecostal church is doing, they don't accept any other Christians, they are just acting like muslims. If you day that you don't wear jewels but at the same time you put all the make ups required for the day, and all the hair gels and the good dress. What is the difference between wearing jewels and putting all the make ups. Please if you have time read bible, Jesus loves your soul and knows your inside. There are lot of missionaries in orrisa, assam Gujarat. They do ministry among those who are not yet saved and they don't wear white and white, and sometime wear jewels. Do you think that God will not accept their work because their outside is not good or Pentecostal. Wait act 2 or 3 says about the day of Pentecost and not the day of a denomination. Actually there shall be no denominations at all. The easy way to be a good Christian and different from others is to lead a holy life as Jesus Christ is holy, and have feasting with God daily, and also pray for people who are not yet saved in your family circles, friend circles and the strangers as well.

we can more readily appreciate Christ's claims that believers are no longer of the world—we are no longer ruled by sin, nor are we bound by the principles of the world. In addition, we are being changed into the image of Christ, causing our interest in the things of the world to become less and less as we mature in Christ.

Believers in Jesus Christ are simply in the world—physically present—but not of it, not part of its values (John 17:14-15). As believers, we should be set apart from the world. This is the meaning of being holy and living a holy, righteous life—to be set apart. We are not to engage in the sinful activities the world promotes, nor are we to retain the insipid, corrupt mind that the world creates. Rather, we are to conform ourselves, and our minds, to that of Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2). This is a daily activity and commitment.

We must also understand that being in the world, but not of it, is necessary if we are to be a light to those who are in spiritual darkness. We are to live in such a way that those outside the faith see our good deeds and our manner and know that there is something “different” about us. Christians who make every effort to live, think and act like those who do not know Christ do Him a great disservice. Even the heathen knows that “by their fruits you shall know them,” and as Christians, we should exhibit the fruit of the Spirit within us.

Being “in” the world also means we can enjoy the things of the world, such as the beautiful creation God has given us, but we are not to immerse ourselves in what the world values, nor are we to chase after worldly pleasures. Pleasure is no longer our calling in life, as it once was, but rather the worship of God.

Another ridiculous thing is that they don’t believe in letting women wear jewels. Apparently men wearing Rolex watches and flaunting their Fords will not in anyway increase their vanity. But women, the avaricious creatures that they are, will go haywire at the sight of gold. I think all this idiocy stems from Paul’s saying that it is better that a woman adorns herself with good works, than with jewellery or braiding their hair. Well Paul said: Its better you do this than that, but The TPM interpretation: Women must not wear jewels. So if you see most Pentecostal woman in India have to forgo gold – a security and investment, as it increases their vanity. In foreign countries I’m sure this Pentecostal teaching is no hardship, but in India, with every other housewife being decked like a jewellery showroom, it must be a pretty hard cross for these women to b(w)ear. After years of staying in the TPM church, my grandma moved away. Now, she sees the pastors’ wives in more liberal Pentecostal churches wearing jewels and badly wants to wear jewels again, but doesn’t do so because she feels it will look ridiculous to resume wearing jewels at her age. Why all this deprivation? Why all the fuss? Wear jewels if you feel like it, since its normal in Indian society for women to wear jewels. Anyway if they are going to misread Paul’s statement like that, they must also wear their hair loose and never use hair clips, hair pins, barrettes, ribbons or braid their hair. For did not Paul say it is better for a woman to adorn herself with good works than wear JEWELS or BRAID her HAIR?

Wearing Ornaments is a big deal mostly in India only! look at the western world? they seldom wear it . its just the part of their attire. We Indian Pentacostals are always tied up to their indian traditions and culture! the Indian Traditions are actually Paginism. Why not follow the Christian culture? even though we all belong to different nationalites, for christians there is only one culture we ought to follow ie the Bibilical/Christian culture. so if you follow that, wearing ornaments wont be a big deal or a sin which separates you from God.Nothing in the world is too precious than the blood of Jesus.

Christianity is the way to reach God ,and also anexperience with God.Now it became a dogmatic religion and lost its morals and values. the people talking about ornaments, clean shave, white shirt with full sleeve rather than Love Of God, the great salvific action of Jesus through the cross ,the born again experience ,the power of the blood of Jesus, the need of salvation etc. Plz My pentecostal brothers, i love you but do not forget the last command of Jesus, matthew 28;20. Go and proclaim the gospel and make desciples. leave the entire discussions about the things which will not help you to reach the kingdom of god.

      Acts 15:28-29

      28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

      Galatians 5:16

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Many christians have spiritual dyslexia. They read Galatians 5:16 in the reverse. They try to control the lust of the flesh to walk in the Spirit. Let us walk in the Spirit. Then we will automatically not fulfill the lust of the flesh. This is not something that has to be pushed by legalistic preachers to their congregation.

      Galatians 5:4

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; you are fallen from grace.

If we try to be justified by these laws (including the ones made by the church leaders) we are FALLEN FROM GRACE

I see here people argueing for the things which has nothing to do with our salvation. I really fail to understand why people ( groups) make up their own theories and proclaim that it is from the word of God. Anyways I am not here to argue or fight . Let your faith save you but ya'al misleading new Christians like us. My friends lets follow Christ and his word rather than getting into some people or group , who have a lot of things to say from their mouth and very little to show through their lives. Again I didn't put this for an argument , just an honest request and want y'all to think about it. Thanks. Cheers

every one is free to interpret the word of God. But those who interpret, be cautions not to add, take away or twist His words.

Almighty God (in Gospels) says, if you love anything (repeat anything)more than me, you are ideal worshiping. This means, if you love Gold, more than God, you are worshiping your Gold. If you love your special food more than God, you are worshiping your "food" more than God. In essence, what God is not restricting man from wearing Gold, He is saying that you should not love Gold more than me. God has created everything for man, we can certainly enjoy everything (other He would have blessed Abraham,Jacob,Issac with abundant wealth), but seek your God first.

Remember brothers and sisters; Jesus Christ came into this world to deliver us from sin; not to deliver a particular group or nation but to the entire world. Why you are fighting each other? we are all children of God, we have to respect each other, love each other, humble and meek as our Lord says HIS own character is (read Matthew 11:29),we must have compassion as we have to be the likeness of our Lord. We all are in the God's plan before the creation of this world. Don't allow the devil to make you blind by talking bad about your brother; God is love and we have to love others with the everlasting love; it is God's grace we are all this world now; our forefathers have gone back now it is our time to live in this World and do good according to the wishes of our Lord, when we live in this world, we have to wear cloth, we have to eat food, but nothing in this matter because all these are temporal means, which God has provided to us by the grace, we should put our mind on all these but we have to trust the Lord, put our mind and heart in God and thankful to HIM every moment of our life; we don't know when the call came and we have to go back; therefore, my dear brothers and sisters abstain from all malice practices, talks and concentrate your mind and heart in the Lord, love all his creatations, which itself is praising the Lord. Remember we are children of God and NOT of the darkness.

      God bless you

A typical article from the new age Pentecostal, no grounding in truth, no desire to follow Jesus. loving the world and full of compromise.

Pentecostals in kerala vehemently denied Ornaments because ornaments were closely associated with (1)lust (2)symbols of idol worship. Having been used to a life of rejection and persecution from the mainstream society they rejected all the pleasures of the world and Gold and silver ornaments stood as striking symbols of it. Now the jolly third generation Pentecostals can hardly understand their forefathers struggle for the Truth as they bask in new found riches of Gulf money and NRI deposits and hence find ornaments very luring as Adam and eve were lured by forbidden fruit.

God gave Adam and eve a dress to wear. But didn't make ornaments for them. Ornaments serves no other purpose except attracting unnecessary attention from the opposite sex and cause stumbling block to a weak one. Jesus that anybody who makes another person sin: better it is form him to jump in to an ocean with a heavy stone tied to his neck than make another person sin.

If any pentecostal want to wear ornaments let them do but please stop calling themselves as Pentecostals anymore at-least not to bring shame unto their forefathers faithful lives.

The article is a simple explanation as to why Pentacostals do not wear ornaments,It went on to become a war of words and very long arguments,Our prayers too should not be like this ,We should stay focused and lift up Christ in every way,.leave alone other Christians,For the Lord indeed is building the church.//Are you ready for Christ in purity of words ,body and thoughts ,

I don't know if one should quote from old testament against ornaments(,The author gave very valid reasons ) where polygamy was Okay,We are renewed with Christ and we have the joy of serving Him ,

The Pentecostalism beliefs are a great separation from World .It has true members who has undergone real sorrow, brokenness ,repentance ,,and who have overcome the world,,,,Many can never understand that ,The children born in pentacostal families too do not understand that as seen from two or three comments above,

It is growing in great numbers because it is truly an anointed Church .Black sheep and backsliders could be possibly present that makes the Church look like something to be written about,If my husband and family members love me immensely and I am presentable ,I would never worry about make up and ornaments,We have that confidence that we stand before Christ ,running that race earnestly,

Most of the busy Jewel shops have customers who come with borrowed money to buy gold that is used in weddings and other rituals,

The thread has explained very well why ornaments are not used by the believers,

      Thanks for the same ,

I was also born and brought up in a hard-core Pentecostal family in Kerala. Though the basic Pentecostal doctrine is obviously rich both spiritually and morally, a good number of Pentecostals today are riding dangerously fast on the wrong lanes.

And now, turning to the 'ornament blah-blahing', I must say that I really enjoy a happy family life with a faithful wife, brilliant children and a not-too-bad financial background, all of which I got because of my unchanging faith in Lord Jesus and hard work. All my family members have been wearing ornaments for years but at the same time following the teachings of Jesus Christ. We all regularly attend prayers in a Pentecostal Church.

It might be a difficult-to-digest fact for many Pentecostals that a vast majority of Pentecostal girls do not wear ornaments just because they are compelled by their parents, though they may never agree with this statement fearing the consequences in the form of rebuking and physical punishment from their parents. By saying this, however, I do not deny the fact that there so many Pentecostal ladies who willingly keep themselves away from using ornaments. What I want to say is that having an intense desire in mind to wear ornaments but not just wearing them due to parental or religious pressures is tantamount to wearing them. Interesting to say, even Lord Jesus may be confused with the Pentecostal logic of not wearing ornaments but putting on clothes which are more expensive than ornaments, jewel-studded watches, stylish footwear etc besides owning posh cars and living in such mansions worth millions and so on.

To quote David Cox, "....... While God has a priority on salvation, true holiness (not sinning), and obeying God’s will, the Pentecostals preach what is superficial, external, and “light.” Instead of themes like mercy, grace, the Christian witness, and holiness, they try to deceive by shouting and screaming about externals of religion like hair length, using cosmetics, ornaments and other external superficial rules. ....... The external can be faked, but true love, mercy, charity, longsuffering, etc. are more difficult to fake. []

Thank you for the article on ornaments. A believer is the one who expect the second coming of Jesus Christ. He should be least bothered about decorating his body with ornaments and too much of other things. According to bible wearing ornaments is wrong..This culture has evolved from the ungodly people for centuries back. Refer the history for this Amalekya idols. Let us all think of the ultimatum of wearing ornaments.Does any man get anything out of wearing it. if you are wearing a dress its for keeping away from nakedness. There is no exmple that Jesus, desciples and the early church members wear the so called ornaments. one who is baptised should recognise how saten can drag people to these kind of things. So avoid wearing ornaments and its smaller than we think.its easy and the essence of bible is simple living. Anything comes above that is satanic. Jessen

Dear brothers and sisters in christ,

Avoid the arguments of right or wrong in wearing the ornaments?

Just try to think/examine whether it (wearing ornaments, watching TV, indescent dressing etc etc) will be an hindarence for your growth in spiritual life. Ask the HOLY SPIRIT TO LEAD YOU.

If IT IS AN HINDERANCE TRY TO AVOID THAT THING IN YOUR LIFE. If not, move on further, go ahead until you grow to reach the eternity.

Jesus has given us the choice of freewill. As per Matthew 7, No one can judge the other person only God is our Judge. If legalism has crept into church by forcing the entire congregation not to wear ornaments then it isn't Biblical. But if a believer is convicted by The Holy Spirit to not to wear any ornaments then its upto the believer. We neednt have to please anyone but only Jesus.Jesus has already died for the body of Christ so we just have to do what each person is called to do,according to His will. One can wear ornaments as long as it doesn't become an idol in their life.

      Hello dear Brothers,

Please read these verses from the bible that are not in favor of wearing gold/jewellery and how it destroyed great men of god.

      Genesis - 35:4-5

So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem. Then they set out, and the terror of God fell upon the towns all around them so that no one pursued them.

Because Jacob was willing to give up all the ornaments and gold in his household, God blessed him.

      Judges - 8:21-35

So Gideon stepped forward and killed them, and took the ornaments off their camels necks.

      24. And he said, "I do have one request, that each of you give me an earring from your share of the plunder." (It was the custom of the Ishmaelites to wear gold earrings.)

      25. They answered, "We'll be glad to give them." So they spread out a garment, and each man threw a ring from his plunder onto it.

      26. The weight of the gold rings he asked for came to seventeen hundred shekels, not counting the ornaments, the pendants and the purple garments worn by the kings of Midian or the chains that were on their camels' necks.

      27. Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family.

      35. They also failed to show kindness to the family of Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) for all the good things he had done for them.

The great man of God Gideon and his family was rejected by God because of his love for gold and ornaments.

God Command Israelites to take off their ornaments

      Exodus - 33:5-6

For the LORD had said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites, 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.'"

      6. So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb.

      Isaiah - 3:16-23

16 The Lord says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, tripping along with mincing steps, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.

17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald.”

18 In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces,

19 the earrings and bracelets and veils, 20the headdresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, 21the signet rings and nose rings, 22 the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses 23 and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls.

      Revelation - 17:4-5

The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.

what bible tells about the ornament of a true believer?

      Revelation - 19:8

She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear." For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God's holy people.

"we wear what we worship, and we worship what we wear. "

For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?

      1 Corinthians 8:9-11

So I simply stay away from anything that affect other believer's conscience. Furthermore, there's no advantage in wearing these stuffs on my body. At the end of times, we all need to answer a lot of things.

      2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

I'm sure I will be safe on this matter, as God won't say why I didn't!

God blesses all the people who believe in Jesus.

Yesterday I heard Pr. James M Paul preaching against wearing ornaments. His arguments are giving below:

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."

You are bought by Christ by his blood. So you don't have the right to polish your nails or pierce your ears or nose.

Now the question arise; For what you are wearing ornaments? If you are wearing ornaments to please God, then it's OK. If you wear ornaments to please people, then we need to avoid it.

What you think about it? Is it a valid argument?

Just typed a question about the ornaments wearing in the net and I found this site. A lot to read, good. May the God bless you all and let us put to an end and start reading the word of god, meditating, and praying rather wasting our time but live a life that is acceptable and pleasant to the Lord. We will never reach to a stage by these kinds of comments and questions. Arguments will continue, it will not stop. If any one want to wear the ornaments let him/her wear it. If any one does not want to wear let him/her avoid it. But remember Revelation 22:11 Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong, let him who is vile continue to be vile, let him who does right continue to do right, and let him who is holy continue to be holy. 12: Behold I am coming soon, my reward is with me and i will give to every one according to what he has done. (We cannot correct the world, let each one correct himself/herself) Praise be to God.

Gone through all the posts. This subject is been discussing for years. We cannot force any one to follow what Bible really do not say. If wearing ornaments is sin, Gods spirit might have said a verse, "you shall not use any ornament" I don't see such a verse anywhere in the bible.

The beginning story is Good, but i don't know how much meaning of the story is understood by the author and so called HOLY people.

I don't think God can compare the great salvation, with some thing sinful. If pentecostal argument is right we have to say God is wrong, that sound funny. Even though avoiding ornaments is not Biblical, but pentecostal have to defend it for their organizational purpose. But all these unbiblical, practices are used by the Satan to hinder the people to come to Christ, satan is using these so called Holy people to be his instrument. We have to pray for a revival among them.

A lot of people have been told that that wearing jewelry is a sin, but what does the Bible say about it?

In Genesis 24:22-53 we can read of Abraham sending his servant to find a wife for Isaac, and sending earrings and bracelets to convince Rebekah and her family to allow the marriage.

Ge 41:41-42 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

      And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

Surely if it had been a sin, these two men of God would not have had, or allowed jewelry.

Ex 3:21-22 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty: But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

Ex 32:2-3 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

When the people left Egypt, the Lord himself put it into the minds of the Egyptians to give them all manner of jewelry, not that they needed it, the Lord was taking care of them from that point on.

Ex 35:22 And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing-hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the Lord.

Eze 16:8-13 Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord God, and thou becamest mine. Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers' skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. I (the Lord God) decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom.

Da 5:29 Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

Lu 15:22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

Why would Christ use jewelry as a reward in his parable if it was wrong to wear it?

      1Ti 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broidered hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

James 2:1-4 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

1Pe 3:1-6 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.

The point of the verses above are, to concentrate on the inward appearance, and not the outward appearance.

Note that it was ok for both men and women to wear jewelry. courtesy to Church

Nothing more to say...because Jesus Himself says in Luke 18:8 "I say unto you, that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?".... Habakkuk 2:4 makes it clear that the Opposite of Pride is Faith. That means,Humbleness is coupled with faith.

On this I wonder, how many believers truly don't pride on the ornaments they wear....

      Myself withdrawing from this conversation.

Beware of not being guilty, when you stand in Face to face with the Almighty God.

Ezekiel 7:19 - 22 says ‘They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin.

They took pride in their beautiful jewelry and used it to make their detestable idols. They made it into vile images; therefore I will make it a thing unclean for them.

I will give their wealth as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile it. I will turn my face away from the people, and robbers will desecrate the place I treasure. They will enter it and will defile it.

To all you typical hypocrates out there. You guys are just a bunch of people dying inside to be like others. Being born again was a fantastic experience for me, however when circumstances led me to moving to a typical pentecost church, I found out that I was doubting my own faith. Its such a pity how you people consider yourselves righteous and insult other people without a care in the world. Referring someone to a whore just because they wear a pair of earrings and take a slight effort to be presentable is totally unacceptable. Where is your love of God? I know you all merely put up the act of being holy by not drinking or watching a movie. But inside you have no fear of God or love for others. You people claim its a sin to go out with your friends to watch a movie but most of you secretly watch porn in private. And trust me you are just being unreasonable when you talk about segregation. Where is your love for others? Jesus mingled with sinners. Christianity is a lifestyle not a religion. You can only influence someone by your actions. Your actions should be inspiring and by actions I don't mean your meaningless outward display of modesty. I am a born again and I believe the Pentecost malayalees have created a cult. A cult which promotes hatred to jewelery wearing people. A cult that worships their pastors rather than God. God sees your heart at the end of the day. Oh and your style of worship is APPALLING. I really never got the fast unrhythmic clapping and nervous fits. I do not believe its the manifestation of the holy spirit because people with demons/ or who are in a trance state behave in the same manner. The Holy spirit is gentle and divine and this divine spirit will only cause a graceful manifestation.

Whoever says 'not wearing ornanments is being holy' is deeply mistaken.

Don't mistake me ,I am from a pentacostal background that dates back to about 4 generations and I respect the various reasons for which they may have left their ornanments and wordly wealth .I know my ancestors have..

But when a person comes to the faith asking them to remove their ornaments is the biggest rubbish .

We need to introduce them to the JESUS we have known

and tell them you don't need to grow your beard and climb a mountain...

You don't need to shave your head and dip in a river for salvation..

Because there is a saviour who you can believe in and you will be saved..

Doesn't it sound too simple to be true..

Thats what we need to tell them!!!!

Dear Mathews, Great comments. 100 % correct. People like you should visit this page again and again to give some more light to the people of this era living in the darkness of religious traditions and rock like advices.

Now to my dearest brother Sam Isaac. First of all I like the way you are living and believe that you are a person of high moral and spiritual values.

But to be frank, I did not like at all some thing you wrote above. It violates the ethics and those who do this type of things are politicians and some notorious advocates. I am speaking about a long paragraph in which you became so talkative about the necessity to wear clothes. When I heard the questions like "Did Paul not wear clothes??? Did Jesus not wear clothes??? Did the 12 disciples not wear clothes???" I was really shocked on why these questions to me? In my writings I neither questioned the need of clothes nor advocated nakedness. What I argued is that the colorful design on our clothes are having the purpose of decorating our body just like what ornaments are doing. I guess that you are using colorfully decorated clothes like me and you just want to hide that point. Am I right? Otherwise you might have completely missed my point while browsing in your time limit. If you get time, I would request you to go through this full thread from top to bottom to understand more things.

Sorry my dear brother, I didn't mean that you are immature and I know very well that you are a very good, noble and matured person. What I termed as immature is "your particular idea" that materials made by unholy people to God is also unholy to our body. To question that only I cited the example of Perkins. Sam, I didn't expect that Sir Perkins would get this much importance when I was writing it. There are many modern day Tubal-Cains who were born after writing bible and it continues for ever. But it is immature to think that what ever they touch and make is unpleasant to God. Real spirituality doesn't allow us think behind these types of things and to give so much importance to see whether there is a chain on your neck or a ring on your finger or there are attractive designs on your dresses. But there should be modesty in everything. Where ever you live, following the decent and modest culture of that society is the best (I am not talking about some shocking western culture of sex and drinks). Making yourself something different from that does not make you spiritual because it is related to spirit and not to your body.

As a part of verbal fight, you presented so many numbered arguments though out your comment above. I don't try to reply or counter many of them because it can cause irritation to our good readers here who come to learn from all of us. We are not here for an exercise to win but we are just friends with different opinions. But I would like to point out one thing which may help you. It is something psychological and perhaps interesting to learn. Listen to me carefully. Your inner man is wearing a lot of precious ornaments. He thinks that he is very attractive with them. When he finds that one of them gets tarnished he becomes so disturbed and try to eliminate its cause. Your inner man was wearing an attractive ornament made of "your own so called holiness of not wearing gold". When you lost your answer before my simple question that "what do the colors in your shirts do there? Does it make any atraction?" the ornament of your inner man got tarnished. He got angry and asked you to talk like an advocate in a court. That is why you falsely told that my examples are from outside the bible (they are not my examples to follow, I only criticized the hypocrisy they spreads in the name of Pentecost). That is why you were so prejudicious to say that he or she does not know the MYSTERIES that God is ready to revel it to His children but knows all about SIR PERKINS AND ANILINE DYE (I already told with which intension I mentioned the name of Perkins and he is just a single example among thousands) That is why you were so proud of not having a TV (there is nothing to be proud in it if you think that denying TV is essential to keep you spiritual. What makes you spiritual is to control your mind to the bad content of it, if any, and open your eyes to see the real state of people around you and act for them). No worries, what ever I told about you now applies equally or even more to me. I am not perfect.

In general, People are still living like Pharisees saying laws in every small things. They don't understand that Jesus gave them freedom to get out of the spirituality tied in tradition, customs and style. Look at your inner man. God dwells there only.

In my opinion not wearing ornaments itself becomes a religious ritual, like circumcision. As Bible clearly teaches Circumcision should be in our hearts, not outward circumcision. Jesus did not prevent women from wearing ornaments. His teachings was about the kingdom of God and not to sin. If Gold and Jewellery is sin, then there cannot be precious jewels and gold in Heaven as written in the Bible. keeping a holy identity is "to distance ourselves from sin". By restricting ornaments, in a society like India is to create obstacles in the spread of the Gospel. Gospel of Jesus is most important to save people, not in trivial matters like ornaments. Nowadays almost all the pentecostals churches have started allowing women wearing ornaments, which is welcome. Howevever I do not criticize those who willingly wish to forego their ornaments, it is good before Lord. But Lord will bless abundantly if they forego all of other worldy possessions and distribute to poor, only keep money for their bare needs, so that their intention is faithful before the Lord who does not like hypocrisy. But they should not advise others to remove their ornaments in a society like in India. Today in India, even a poor daily wage worker wears low cost Gold ornaments, or gold plated ornaments. To say that they are attached to the world is not right. They may run away as soon as they see a lady without ornaments trying to teach the Gospel. It is most important to save a soul, by teaching the Good news(Gospel) of Jesus rather than putting obstacles like ornaments or urging them to become an ascetic. After they accept Jesus as their savoiur they will show no affinity to any of the worldly possessions, rather than just Gold ornaments. Interpretation of Scripture should be relative to the prevailing times and situation.Aposltles like Peter and Paul were against flouting extravagant life styles,Their intention was to be humble, and to do good works that is pleasing to the Lord. Decoration is every where in all of God's creation. Man also has the inner urge to decorate himself in dressing or ornaments or his houses etc. we do not build shapeless homes or wear shapeless or colourless dresses(am I right?), which is not a sin in itself. But it should not become an idoltry, which means if any of the worldy things become more important than God, then it is idoltry. It is only my thoughts, as I am not a saint or a bible scholar, but I would like the reader to think over my opinion, with reference to the scripture. God bless you....

Brother Prinson, Thanks for the response.

Hope Mine Was an Immature Teaching. But Let God be the judge.

Brother, Here are the points i would like to bring into your notice about your response you gave me.

      1) Any Debate, IF POSSIBLE (IT IS POSSIBLE) try to convey it on the BASIS OF THE LIVING WORD OF GOD. There has not been any single quote from the Bible on your response.

      2) It is so sad to notice from your response that, all the personalities that you have chosen as examples is from OUTSIDE THE BIBLE.

      a) YOU - Prinsion. (As a Chemist)

      b) Pastor K.C John. (As A Hypocrite, Which I also believe, it is true)

      c) Sir Perkins. (A Chemist)

      d) Christians with BMW, Benz cars and palaces.

I don't understand, Who are these people to you????? Are these people your examples. Or, are you thinking to present these people as true Christians to the world. OHHH SO SAD to see you immature without this basic biblical foundation .... these ARE NOT true Christians ( Sorry, I din't mean about you. It is your private life that God values).

1 Corithians 11:1 "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ"

Apostle Paul who lived in the 1st century said this. He said this because, He was crystal clear about the way he was living. Absolutely based on the divine principles.

K.C John who is living in this 21th century. Can he say to the Christians today, Follow me as I follow Christ???

Let me tell you, K.C John gives a whole lot of messages running all over the stage and stuffs like that. I also have seen him so much on CDs and DVDs. But the SADDEST THING I noticed is that, i hardly have heard him speak about HOLINESS. Its all prosperity Gospel he speaks. What a Christ like brother he is??

You, me and every true Christians were called to this glorious salvation ONLY LOOKING UNTO JESUS. Not any K.C John like or Benz Christians.

      3) You mentioned that I limit my thoughts to some points. Sure. I limited it because, In this page, we are debating on that particular topic. And I am not the person who gives limitations. It is the Holy Spirit who has given the limits for THOSE WHO ARE THE TEMPLE OF GOD in the Bible.

      4) You said that yourselves and many like you are spending millions of dollars for cloth coloring chemicals. Also, you have said " DECORATING YOURSELVES WITH MAN-MADE COLOURED CLOTHES".

Let me tell you. First of all, Clothes are NOT USED FOR DECORATING YOUR BODY, but FOR COVERING YOUR'S AND MY NAKEDNESS. The Bible gives us the limit of what clothes we should use to cover our body. 1 Timothy 2:8 clearly says by not using EXPENSIVE CLOTHES.

Now you would say that, millions of dollars are spend for coloured clothes. Such a meaningless silly statement. Did Paul not wear clothes??? Did Jesus not wear clothes??? Did the 12 disciples not wear clothes???

Do you think Paul, Jesus and the 12 disciples spent money cultivating cotton or whatever cloth material? Do you think they spent money to transport the clothes to the place where it was woven??? Do you think they spent the money for weaving clothes??? Do you think the whole expenditure of money for manufacturing their clothes were spent by them???

It is as simple as it is. You and I do not go to the Shopkeeper and give the whole million dollars that was spent for colouring the clothes. We just go and buy clothes which are not expensive. In this way, I am not becoming a part of that particular people who spent millions of dollars for colouring.

There is no verse in the Bible, that prohibits colouring clothes. If you have found a verse, then i would be glad to see it.

By the way, ornaments is NOT MEANT TO COVER NAKEDNESS. It is there with the sole idea of decorating human body.

      5) You have compared Sri Ravisankar LESS WORLDLY and K.C.John MORE WORLDY. There is nothing mentioned in the Bible like, MORE WORLDLY or LESS WORLDLY. Just WORLDLY. That means both are EQUALLY WORLDLY. So both of them are not our examples. BUT JESUS CHRIST.

      6) About, Sir Perkins and his aniline dye. Also about the things you mentioned that am enjoying now.

I would have been really glad if I could take a count of HOW MANY PENTACOSTAL SISTERS and PASTORS KNEW ABOUT SIR PERKINS AND ANILINE DYE. Am sure that, at least 90% of pentecostal Christians would not know about this fact.

Also i would be really concerned to see how many Pentecostal Christians would deny these articles when they are made aware about this for God's sake.

The word of God(Bible) is given to us to study them and live according to its divine principles. Christians has no scarcity in the no of printed Bibles he or she wants, in the version he likes and in the language he prefers. But it is so sad that he or she does not know the MYSTERIES that God is ready to revel it to His children but knows all about SIR PERKINS AND ANILINE DYE. 1 Corithians 3:19 " For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight". In the doctrine of Tubal-Cain and that of Stephen and Paul(which you say is an immature teaching) which i said in earlier comments is so clearly mentioned in the word of God. It is real thrilling and interesting when God revels such things to us and help live accordingly.

BY THE WAY, THERE IS NO SIR PERKINS AND ANILINE DYE IN BETWEEN GENESIS AND REVELATION. But for those Christians who are really devoted to God, He will revel these facts to them in some way, like the way in which I came to know this from you.

About the things you said I am enjoying. Hopefully there is nothing around me that I have with me to enjoy.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:32 " Your heavenly Father knows what you need". He has given me what that i need and not that i want. If he gives me all that i want, that would destroy me. So there is nothing around me that i enjoy. It is all given to me with a purpose and utility.

The thing the whole world consider to be necessary at home i.e TELEVISION( I call it AN IDIOT BOX). God did not give me a television. Because i don't need it.

I'll give my address. you can come up to my house without any warning any day and check whether i have a T.V or not. The bible says in psalms 37:4, "Delight yourselves in the LORD". Frankly speaking, I delight or enjoy in nothing but God and His word. So I need not deny anything around me that God has given to me. I Enjoy in the LORD and that is a commandment. I cannot deny it. I HOPE ALL REAL, GOD FEARING CHRISTIANS ARE THE SAME WAY.

      7) Romans 12:1 says " ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God." Hope that you and me ask for His light to live in holiness by presenting our bodies as living sacrifices. Once we are sacrificed, it is not we. But Christ who lives in us. That means, Does Christ who lives in me prefer to obey 1 Timothy 2:8, 1 peter 3:3. Or Christ who lives in me finds 100s of cross interpretations and explanations for these bible verses.

Dear Sam Isaac, what do the colours in your shirt do there? Does it make any attarction? I am a chemist and many like me are in research spending millions of dollars to make chemicals to decorate dresses of you and your pentecostal brothers. Is it good to decorate yourself with manmade colours? Are you not the temple of God? I don't know brother, why do you limit your thoughts to some points !!!? Beauty is beauty: whether it is provided by your ornaments or by your clothes or by your own style. Pastor K.C John (not a personal attack, just saying an example) makes himself more beautiful by his dressing style than Sri Sri Ravisankar do. K.C.John appears with highly costly blazers and attractive ties (which I consider as a necklase for man) in national and international stages while Ravisankar never do that!! Who is more worldly? Why a Pentecostal pastor can not be as simple and non-worldly as a Hindu monk simply can do? Hypocrisy...Hypocrisy...Hypocrisy !!!!!!

Hey brothers and sisters, you people justify your own traditions of not wearing ornaments saying that you are the temple of God. Finally you people burry this temple in tombs like BMW and M.Benz and palace like houses. Shame shame !! Where are your ideologies? You people are reluctant to give up these worldly luxuries and attractions which Christ never like. Yet denying holy communion to an ornament wearing poor fellow.

Sam, do you know Sir Perkins who discovered the first aniline dye which had an amazing ability to beautify silk? He was born as a Christian and died as a non-Christian. He devoted his life for chemistry only. Your Pentecostal sisters are still using this dye in their silk saries and churidars and your pastors are bearing this dye all over the world in their ties. Just to show up the beauty. If you could extend your doctrine to many aspects like this, I would be satisfied by your arguments based on the story Tubal-Cain. Remember, many of the things you are enjoying right now (look around you) are invented and developed by atheists. Will you deny them now? Sorry to say this Sam, what you presented here are just immature teachings to divert the real meaning of spirituality.

The guide line one can take for himself or herself is that,

Having Known about what the bible says in 1 Timothy 2:9 And 1 Peter 3:3, If Jesus Christ was living in a street somewhere nearby to a place where you are living now, and suppose he asks you to come with him to the market place one particular day, WHAT WOULD BE THE WAY IN WHICH YOU WOULD DRESS UP TO GO ALONG WITH JESUS CHRIST????????

Suppose Say, One of the most famous Bollywood star comes up to your house and asks you to come with him or her to have a Luncheon in one of the most luxurious hotel in the city, WHAT WOULD BE THE WAY IN WHICH YOU WOULD DRESS UP AND GO WITH HIM OR HER ON THE INVITATION???????

      ASK YOURSELVES!!!!!!

It is 100% sure that any one who asks this question to him/herself would find themselves with the answer that,

      1. With Jesus Christ, you would dress up with simplicity and in the most modest way, almost wearing no ornaments at all.

      2. With that filthy and worldly Bollywood star, you would dress up in the most attractive, provocative and immodest way you can and with the whole lot of costly kind of ornaments and stuff.

If this is so, being a real God fearing believer, Which situation would you choose to be the guide line for yourselves in your entire life? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Bro Prinson - Great Comments. Let me add some more things too. Not thinking of IPC, Assemblies Of God or any such Pentacostal groups which is being discussed right now on the above comments, let me bring into your notice a very ASTONISHING FACT that the Bible reveals to us.

Mean While, the first point i want to bring into everybody's notice is that, From Where and When was the ornaments first used. And What was the intention behind using them.

A Historical book named "BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE, VOL-8 gives us the clear idea on this. Here it is. In Genesis 4:16, You see that Cain went out from Lord's presence on killing his brother. Reading further we clearly get the idea that he was living a Godless life. In Verse 22, the same chapter Says " Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron". Thus, it is clear that the beginning of making tools started here. Looking on to any bible commentry one can see that this person, Tubal-Cain was an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron. That means here is the origin of ornaments.

Secondly. Here is the most important point.

Let me tell you again. Be careful. Don't ever look forward to the new generation Christians and their philosophies. Bible says " I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished ". Matthew 5:18.

Now i want you to give special attention to the second point.

We sometimes tend to forget that holiness aspect of God.

On reaing exodus, its allright till you get uo to chapter 27. And then from 27-40, Have any one tried reading it????? 14 out of 40 chapters, moses says i went up to the mountain, and i had an encounter with God. And this is what he said to me. I want to build you a tabernacle. And then God starts saying that i want such and such thing to be so long and no longer. so wide and no wider. so high and no higher. God gives him the absolute precise measurements on each and every thing built inside the tabernacle.I want you to dive the room in such an such way. i want he curtains to be so high and so thick, no higher and no thicker. i want it to be made of this particular material and this particular colour and nothing else would do. and it goes on and on and on. Here the important point is the precision that God brings in to build the tabernacle inside which in some limitation God was going to dwell.

Now the next thing I saw to my horror was that Moses comes down from the mountain after hearing all the precise instructions from God AND STARTS SAYING THE WHOLE THING ONCE AGAIN FROM THE BEGINNING TO THE END, ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT GOD HAS TOLD HIM. Starting from it should be so long and no longer so wide no wider. so high and no higher and on and on and on.

NOW HERE IS THE POINT. In acts 7, Stephen is martyred to death for saying this simple statement- GOD NO LONGER DWELLS IN BUILDINGS MADE WITH HANDS.

Paul picks up the teaching and says, THIS BODY IS NOW THE TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD.

All realize that Cain was not pleased by God. So where his son, who gave birth to Artificer or in other name ornaments. Do you think God wants his temple that is " YOU " to be defiled by something which was invented by a person on whom he was not pleased with? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? SURELY NOT!!!!!

Let me remind you again. This explanation has been clearly written by quoting the word of GOD that You and I Know that does not change.

Let me tell you..... A person wearing ornaments, if he or she is a normal human being, will surely have at least 1% of thought deep in his mind asking to himself that,

1.DOES THIS LOOK GOOD?,( Sorry that i forgot the verse which says about desire of the EYE, Inner longing to attract others),

Come on - Just think, What is it that one ultimately gain after wearing it????..... The only thing gained is GETTING PRICKED BY THE CONSCIOUS ABOUT THE VERSES MENTIONED IN 1 PETER AND TIMOTHY.

The most funny thing is that...... If you people are gonna get to heaven, you guys are going to walk on streets made of GOLD (Revelation 21:21). And living on this earth which is kept for fire we all keep arguing on hanging pieces of GOLD on our body which we are going to trample under our feet.

Finally one more thing. Once you come to know God so personally and love him with your whole heart accepting that he paid off everything for you on the cross, one would never feel like keeping these worldly things, wearing ornaments to attract people. Any one would feel these things to be utter Rubbish.

That's very interesting and reasonable. If for the sake of Christ, you decide to deny yourself of worldly beauties, it's very much appreciated. But as much as it's being commended, it should also be noted that, this law is not a divine law, it's a discipline which a group has chosen to be identified with in accordance to being submissive to God. In that case, those who wear ornaments should not be seen as sinners or wrong doers, because this law or rule, is a mere discipline and is therefore subject to change.

Prinson, you have proved beyond doubt that the IPC is filled with Hypocrisy. But brother believe me when I say this, the IPC chruch will never change their ways. I,a pentacost, have argued and exposed their hyprocrisy time and again only to realise how similar they are to the Pharisees. It is now, sadly, a big business. A means to evade taxes!!!

There is another very interesting fact to point out regarding the IPC. The contributions to the IPC are huge in terms of the finacial aspects. But till date there is not one educational institution, not one charity fund that has been the question arises where is then all this money???

The answer is the the pockets of the greedy pastors and middle men. And does IPC organisation have anything that it can belongs to the organisation? No everything is still in the name of its founder ..

Coming back to the topic, I once confronted my uncle who is a pastor with these points,( which i am nt going into detail), To the end of the discussion he said and I quote

"IPC organisation can seen as a school. Each school has its uniform. You either wear the unifomr and come to school or don't."

And I ended with the following words

"Hipocrisy! Thy name is you ,....IPC!"

In fact the story of Biaslina shook my heart. I felt really sorry about how my fellow beings have manipulated their concepts of Christianity.

Dear my sister Biaslina, sorry to say this: You are highly mistaken. Take it only as an advice from your brother.

I appreciate that you don’t wear ornaments. It is your choice but don’t picture this as a requirement for being a true Christian.

Throughout your writing, you are projecting Christianity as something to express through your outward appearance. Your connection to God is personal and it is nothing to be shown to the public by your appearance. Read Mathew 6:18. “But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private.” Mathew 6:6. “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.” The original author and Biaslina expressed the same view that Pentecostals should keep themselves away from wearing ornaments so as to show others that they are Pentecostals. This is just the Jewish mentality, the fake spiritual exercises of Pharisees.

Now let’s come to the circumstances of Hindu sister’s reply to Biaslina’s gospel sharing. The Hindu woman asked Biaslina to remove the ornaments before sharing the gospel. What do you understand from that?

      1) The Hindu sister was testing Biaslina to see how much she can give up staying in Pentecostal faith. I think Biaslina succeeded in this test. But don’t limit your thinking at that point. Come to be more practical: There are thousands of non-pentecostals challenging the Pentecostal believers to be simple by not living in palace like houses, avoiding expensive and colorful clothes, and not possessing worldly luxuries like BMW and Mercedes Benz. Will Biaslina be ready to give up any of these (if you have) if asked by a Hindu sister? There is no doubt that big houses, expensive colorful dress and luxurious cars are more worldly than the simple ornaments (that even poor people can afford)

      2) The Hindu sister’s words clearly indicate that she has got an idea that Pentecostalism is nothing more than removing ornaments. This particular notion of the public is the worst consequence of Pentecostal hypocrisy. If mother Teresa’s sister (in place of Biaslina) was approaching our Hindu sister in picture, I think she would never question the faith and sacrifice of that woman. In the worst case the Hindu sister would ask Teresa’s sister to show her faith by helping out their poverty stricken village. From whom the Hindu woman would expect the most noble act? A Pentecostal Biaslina having no ornaments or a Catholic sister having ornaments?

      3) Remember, none of us are wearing the dresses that the church builders of the first century expected from their followers. Projecting Gold as something important to God is mere hypocrisy. In Pentecostal Dictionary, holiness = white dress on Sundays and unholiness = gold. I would suggest the Pentecostals to go in deep to the bible to get its real essence. (Gold coated frames and wrist watches and golden embroideries are not in Pentecostal Dictionary. Don’t ask me why…………… I don’t know really)

Read this passage: Mathew 15. The Pharisees asked to Jesus “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? “For God said, ‘HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,’ and, ‘HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH.’ “But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever I have that would help you has been given to God,” he is not to honor his father or his mother.’ And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. “You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you:

After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, “Hear and understand. “It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”

Hey Pentecostals, who deny Holy Communion to the ornament wearing believers in Kerala (at the same time giving it to the ornament wearing American missionaries in General convention), please tell me where do you stand? In the side of Pharisees or with Jesus?

Ok. Very interesting discussion. Here is my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. Cat story was interesting, and it's a good comparison to the current Pentecostal church. The word of God is the final authority on how we live and conduct ourselves in the world. The closer a person gets to God, the more humble and loving they should become ( how many humble mallu Pentecostals do you know ) and be more willing to reach out to others. Every Mallu church I’ve been to in the US has been prejudice they think they are better than the whites, blacks and any other race. This is not a humble attitude and is not consistent with the teachings of Christ. Is there any one worthy of God? No there is NO ONE worthy of God. Weather a person uses jewelry or not, they are not worthy of God. Only through the death and resurrection of Christ a person is made worthy of God. These beliefs about ornaments are not in the Bible, and People do not have the right to add things to the Bible. If a person wants to give up jewelry then by all means give it up. But a church/pastor/elders do not have the right to demand that of others, and they DO NOT have the right to withhold communion from any one. The bible says “ Examine your self” where does the bible give the pastor/church/elders the authority to deny someone communion?

Which is more worldly? Putting on jewelry or buying huge homes and fancy cars? Which is more worldly? Putting on jewelry or fighting about everything and talking behind peoples back?

Which is more worldly? Cheating on taxes or lying about your kids age to get a discount?

I personally know many Pentecostals who are filled with the spirit, speaking in tongues that ..Talk behind peoples back, cheat on taxes, lie about their kids age, ell at their wives and treat them like dirt ( love your wives as Christ loved the church Eph 5:25). A lot of the Mallu Pentecostal churches remind me of the following scriptures

They honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me

Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence

Praise the lord. I came to pentecostal faith 8 years ago. Then onwards I prefer to be in a church where people can wear ornaments and I really had the same views expressed by Prinson and others. But when I went deeper in to faith in Jesus I came to know that actually spirituality is personal experience with God. God will judge you individually, not what you have learned from others or because your pastor is good. Wearing ornaments is not bad or sin according to bible. but in Kerala, among malayalees, whenever we see a common woman with neat dress without ornaments, people will assume (whether it is Hindu or Muslim or Christian) that she is a pentecostal women because every body know pentecostal people usually will not wear ornaments.I can testify from my experience. I was a firm believer and a member of Orthodox Church and born and brought up in Trivandrum in an affluent family. I was an active member in Orthodox church .I was always god fearing and was very proud to be an Orthodox Christian and I got married to the same community. God gave everything good, good family life and all. Years passed by gradually I had committed myself to the Lord. Then God guided me to choose a worship that is in truth and spirit. Actually I was against this type of worship but I decided to choose a church where ornaments can be worn. I got a nice church. I was very happy in word and worship. But some traditional pentecostal friends asked me about wearing ornaments. I said to them that it is not mentioned in the Bible. My pastor also told me no need to remove ornaments. After accepting Jesus as my personal saviour, always I was having a tendency to share the gospel with others.`So I thought wearing ornaments also makes them comfortable while while sharing gospel. I shared gospel with my relatives and friends. They listened but did not object or respond because of my new experience which is entirely different from their Orthodox Church tradition. Meanwhile once when I was sharing the love of Jesus to a Hindu woman she asked about my faith. Then she asked me if you are having pentecostal faith, then remove your ornaments first and talk as in her surroundings she had seen the pentecostal people avoiding ornaments. I felt really bad that time. After some months, while I was watching Asianet News I saw an interview , that was with a First Indian and a malayalee and who became the Chief of New York City Police. At the end of the interview they showed his family members also. Really I was surprised to see his family members. All were well dressed and without ornaments. They were thanking God for the new position. At that time I thought if I was in that position, did any body recognize me as a believer? or if my daughters occupy a good position in their job will they be the witness of Jesus? or by their dressing code can anybody say we are following and supporting pentecostal faith? These questions arise in my mind. Another time, I saw in TV, a girl who got first rank in medical entrance examination was a pastors daughter. These incidents touched me. Again I refused to expose myself as a pentecostal but at the same time proud to be a believer and thanking God for being a firm believer. During my prayers I asked God to show me 3 signs if He really wants me to be identified as pentecostal woman. To my surprise Lord gave all 3 signs positively. Then without hesitation along with my little daughters we removed our ornaments. After removing ornaments, one day I attended the marriage of my cousin brother with my daughters. They were surprised and asked me when u gone in to pentecostal faith and told me no need to go to that faith. they advised me to wear ornaments and have faith. I told them you may think as I am in Charismatic movement, where anyone can share gospel and worship saints. I am supporting pentecostal faith, that is my witness in front of the public. Many people comes to faith, they like it but do not want the identification because they want to move to any side in public as no body will know. Actually without ornaments is a dare step one can take because if you have a real connection with Jesus only they can make the step. In my opinion, some of our new youth pentecostal wants ornaments and they want to hide themselves in public. leave them free, let they select any church. but do not argue with those who wish to avoid ornaments. At the same time, i am sure in mind,i am not telling someone without ornaments is always perfect in his faith.but he is exposing himeself the follower of Jesus. Some may say, why we should show the world, can't you keep everything in your heart and no need to show outside. They argue that to show good deeds out side. But we can see so many good people around us irrespective of their religion and we can see so many cults sharing the gospel. Charismatics are very active in Catholic churches. Pure gospel from the Holy Spirit is preached only by pentecostal churches. Some says pentecostal people living in big houses, using good cars, exchanging huge amount of money, doing big business etc.. but in my opinion they are the right people to bless by God because they worship the Lord in truth and spirit and giving cent percent of income for the gospel work. They will be blessed in every area of their life in this world with overflowing blessings. that is also a way of witnessing God along with the fruit of Holispirit.

my opinion , among petecostal people also don't compell anybody to remove ornaments. I know major churches will not share holicommunion with those are with ornaments. I accept it. if anybody in their church want ornaments let they go out and join an ornament church. it is better than without ornaments and wearing vulger dress in and outside church. IN my opinion those have clear idea of what they beleive and real need in their mind to be a witness of Jesus not only through their deeds also through dress code should remove ornaments. becuase this is very personal like our salvation. I mam sure god will show his love towards us. As Jesus said, those who acknowledge me before people, i will also acknowlege them before my father in Heaven. HALLELUIAH !

One more thing , Lord rejected 5 brides for silly reasons who were also waited upon him along the other 5 brides. If anyone seen with dress code but no fruit of the spirit, then that also bring negative impact on public. One should take maximum care before removing the oraments. IN short, removing ornaments is a dare step and it will bring God's favour in our life not only here till eternal life.

      Dear Bros,

Its not only Malayalee Pentecostals who are not wearing ornaments, lot many churches around the world are following this because this is from Bible.

However this custom came from the begining of Pentecost revival during 1904 - 1910 in Azusa Street revial in los angeles california where wonders and miracles were clearly manifested like growing of hands, formation of eyes for the people born blind for details watch []

Holy Spirit complelled the people to avoid ornaments to see the such a glorious presence of God.Many people who got anointed throwed their ornaments because holy spirit compelled to do so. Smith Wigglesworth of Bradford, UK or the Apostle of faith aroused aroung 14 people from dead also sticked to the same teaching.

Even the book published by Harvard University [Heaven Below by Grant Wacker]on Pentecostals says that during begining of pentecost no one degraded themselves by wearing any form of adornment in america.

Robert Felix Cook or cook sayippe got anointed from this revival and got a vision to go to kerala and influenced the Pentecostal fore fathers like KE Abraham , Ommachan sir etc.

And now new generation says they believe in Jesus but want to live like gentiles. If you believe in Jesus believe in each and every word he told . Ornament wearing is a sin yes (There are 100+ references in bible), but that is not the only sin you need to show others you are a true child of Jesus in every aspect of your life.

As Malayalee pentecostal people including many pastors forgot the real meaning of spirit filled life God is doing wonders in China [Brother Yun], Africa and other place

I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it

I just wanted to say what Apostle Peter said:

It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

      By Pastor Daniel Mena

The subject of jewelry, which includes all ornaments, even rings, must be approached first of all with a sweet spirit. Truth never has to lower itself to a hard or unkind approach. Truth always manifests the fruit of the Spirit; one of which is gentleness. One of the proofs of Truth is the kind and Christ-like spirit it portrays. lt does not return railing for railing because it is the nature of him who, when he was reviled, he reviled not again.

I would like to begin this article with a quote from Bro. James Kilgore, the Assistant General Superintendent of the United Pentecostal Church.

"As to the origination of rings, history says that they were worn as ornaments on the fingers, in the ears, in the nose, and around the wrists and ankles. I would have to conclude that wearing jewelry is not really the image or the ornament of a Christian Spirit."

There are good folks who try to contend that the wedding ring is not classified as jewelry. If rings are not jewelry, then why must a person go to a jewelry store or jewelry department to purchase them? Ask any sinner if rings are considered jewelry; they will answer in the affirmative. Almost every dictionary in the land will define rings under the category of jewelry. World Book Encyclopedia, page 95 under jewelry states, "Jewelry includes: rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, brooches, and various ornaments for the hair." In no instance in Holy Scripture, neither by priest, prophet or apostle, was the marriage vows solemnized by the putting on of a ring. God performed the first wedding in the garden of Eden, and no where can we find that he married Adam and Eve with rings. If it did not originate in the scriptures, then where did it come from? The editor of the Daily Tribune, Bay City, Texas, wrote on page 10, in the June 22, 1962 edition: Re "Wedding Rings" - The romantic tradition of giving a ring stems from what seems to be a barbaric custom. - The author then credited Pope Innocent the 3rd as the originator of the wedding ring, in the celebration of marriage in the church.

The Apostle Paul in his discourse on marriage, never made mention about rings being used to symbolize the marriage ordinance. Neither Paul or any other Apostle taught or advocated the wearing of jewelry for any occasion, but, you would almost think by the strong, gospel-like stand some men take in defence of this type of ornamentation, that they had. Do we have any Biblical support for this custom? The answer is NO! You would almost think there was a Romans 17:1, reading something like this: "I the Apostle Paul, have received another commandment from the Lord, that when you are married, you put on rings to show the world you are married." Neither Jesus, or his disciples ever taught the wearing of a wedding ring.

You say, "l don't wear a wedding ring, but my wife does. "Why don't you?" Some could interpret what you are saying as to mean; "l don't want men looking at my wife - but I don't mind if women look at me as being available." If this is not the case, could it be that down inside your heart you are convicted that it is wrong, and would feel totally uncomfortable with one on? The Bride of Christ, in the book of Revelation did not wear a ring to show she was a bride. She wore fine linen, clean and white; which was the righteousness of the Saints. However, the great whore, who was drunk with the blood of the saints, was decked with gold, precious stones and pearls.

God has taught us a very true yet painful lesson that cost us men and time. The battle did not have to take as long as it did, but some within our ranks were still afraid to drive the sword into Agag. Even today, there are places where the sniper fire can still be heard on the fringes. The lesson God had to teach us was, "Godly Consistency" - in other words, you have no voice, no volume, no momentum to preach against T.V. if you preach on T.V. or advertise on it. You have lost the case through the legal loophole of inconsistency. I am afraid we are coming to another battlefield where we must learn the same principle, only through another issue. You have no power, authority, strength or credibility to preach against jewelry if you still allow certain kinds in the church. Your consistency will be challenged. T.V. is either all wrong or all right. Time has proven - you cannot compromise with the Devil. If you are not 100% against it, in time, you will be 100% for it. You cannot remain static, the overwhelming pressure will pull you like a vacuum. Naturally speaking, the tree always falls in the direction it leans. Someone said . . .

Vice is a monster of so frightful mien, as to be hated needs but to be seen, yet seen too oft, familiar with her face, we first endure, then pity, them embrace.

You cannot allow wedding rings in the church and ever win the battle against jewelry. If we are blind to our own state of inconsistency, the world is not. We have joined hands with ROME, in using a Biblically condemned ornament to symbolize God ordained ordinance.

Let's be honest with ourselves. The same scriptures that we use to preach against earrings, bracelets and necklaces, also condemn rings. If you are going to make an exception to God's rule and accept one as being justified and right, then fairness and consistency demand you accept all as alright. Some have pulled their finger out of the dike and wonder why the world is coming in. Remember!, T.V. almost took us into the SEA!

. . . wedding band yes, but engagement ring no! Why not? You have got just as much scripture to allow the engagement ring as the wedding ring. If reason is placed in the judgement seat and allowed a louder voice than scripture, you must be fair. Well, where do you draw the line? Yes, that is what everyone is asking.

Listen. . . FRIENDSHIP RING stands up to present her case. Oh! it is emotional and as moving as the engagement ring. Next. . . COLLEGE CLASS RING; the debate is hot and heavy, but due to much research and scholarship and remembering the long hours of study and mental discipline, he has won reason over to his right to exist and live in the camp of the redeemed. Next. standing in the long court aisle is MR. TIE CLASP with a bulging briefcase of reasons and arguments. Next. . . Oh yes! MR. CUFF LINK and MRS. BETTY BROOCH and behind them the door opens and ALAS! the hallway is filled, down the steps and out into the street. . . NECKLACES, BRACELETS, EARRINGS, ANKLE BRACELETS, PINS, TRINKETS, NOSE RINGS, GLISTENING PEARLS, SPARKLING DIAMONDS, and GLITTERING JEWELS of all manner from New York, Paris, London, Africa, India, Europe and Asia; they all want entry into the Church of the Living God. Remember, they are all relatives; if you let mother in, she will pull in the whole family sooner or later. The next generation will use our "exception" (compromise) as their license and the wind will become the whirlwind.

      BUT LISTEN . . .

"Rings Through The Ages" - Author James McCarthy devotes an entire chapter to the practice of "Dactyliomancy." This is the practice of divination by means of finger rings. He further states, ASTROLOGY, CRYSTALLOMANCY, SORCERY, NECROMANCY, CONJURATION, INCANTATION and ENCHANTMENT were all part of this practice.

Margaret Blake in her book "Wedding Customs and Folklore," states "Wedding rings are also important in divination."

"The Wedding Day in All Ages and Countries" - author Edward Wood, writes - "The Christian church doubtless adopted the wedding ring from the pagans of Italy, as a convenient sign of marriage." He further states, "The Quakers reject the use of a ring in their weddings because of its heathenish origin, and during the time of the Commonwealth, the Puritans endeavored to abolish the use of the wedding ring, for the reason that it was of pagan invention." On page 221 he writes, "In Ireland the use of a gold ring is superstitiously required." The author quotes from the old Salisbury Manual on page 219, as to the purpose of the third finger being selected for the ring. The bridegroom was to receive the ring from the priest, then holding the right hand of the bride,

Well, I know many Pentacostal youngsters who just want to come out of their Church, just becoz the hypocratic nature of the Pentee churches. With all due respect to your passion for the Lord, i request pentacostal leaders really not to compel these baseless rules or policies on your children and youngsters. I have pentacostal friends outside India, in UK and USA, they do wear ornaments, i do not understand why this is the case in India/kerala.

If wearing Ornaments is a sin, why wearing expensive clothes, having luxury homes and cars is not a sin. With this adamant attitiude how you are going to preach the Word of God to a non christian. If you want to earn a Jewish Soul, be like a Jew ( 1 Cor 9 20). I personally think Jesus will be more happy when you spend your 1000 hours preaching Gospel to the non christians than spending 1000 hours making a Christian(who accepted Christ in his life) not to wear Ornaments. And denying Holy Communion and Denying oppurtunity to testify Our Lord in Church just becoz he/she wear ornaments. Wowww.. i think someone needs to give lots of explanation to my God for these acts. better find some good answers before you fix your appointment with Christ on the final day.

I cannot agree more to Prinson, My God is not a narrow minded person just to check whether he/she is wearing Gold or not, but he just sees the heart, how tuned it is to do the Will of God.

Hello Josh, What a world is this? Everything changed in a moment.

      1) PENTECOSTAL churches only are COMPELLING its flocks anything regarding wearing ornamennts (that is why they can't use it even if many of them really wish to get it)

      2) NON-PENTECOSTAL churches are NOT COMPELLING its flocks anything regarding wearing ornaments.(That why many among them use it and many other among them do not use it)

Then who is picturing ornaments as something having great importance to God? None other than pentecostals.

I think you got my point.

If anybody is not wearing ornaments, let him do so. Why forcing him to wear ornaments. Its upto his will. You who want to wearornaments wear it. I remember the words of St.Paul to the believers regarding the debate between veg and non.veg. He says let the veg people stay so, don't force them to eat non-veg. Also if possible non-veg believer also eat only veg when sharing food with them. Let us not hinder his conscience. But u can continue with ur conscience. I think u got the point.

I liked this question from Prinson:

A simple question to any ornament opposer: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TIE AND A NECLASE? I have seen many malayalee pastors in Kerala wearing tie (that too amazingly beautiful and higly expensive, mostly bought from USA). Why do they wear it?

No pentecostal there to answer this ???????????????

It is sad that the understanding of the scriptures is so limited in so many of the so called HOLY malayalee penticostals. What difference do you have from the traditional churches from which your forefather's came out, there also they were following traditions and the 'church'. I have never seen a more hypocritical set of people than the kerlaite penticostals.

Are you trying to bribe God by abstaining from using ornaments? As if God is so bothered about it. Pity yourself that you cannot open your eyes and see what are the important things according to Lord's scriptures and try to get your spirit in accordance with the Holy Spirit.

You may not send your child to your neighbour for her tution if:

1)She is known as a prostitute

      2)She is a notorious drinker

Will you do the same if:?

      3) she wears ornaments.

Most of the people will not send the child in the case when the neighbour teacher comes under the categories 1 and 2. This is because the parents may fear that the character of the private teacher will have a bad influence in their growing child.

But, are there any pentecostal reader here who will not send his/her child to a private teacher wearing ornaments? I don't think so.

I am trying to say that YOU PEOPLE EXACTLY KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD IN A CIVILIZED SOCIETY. What ever arguments come out of you are just pretension to justify your traditions.

Why do you degrade the level of the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE to that of a narrow minded person who will scratch out the ornament wearing history of a simple human being to raise as a reason to send him/her to the hell?

Dear brother, the GOD is far far above your description. THOSE WHO HAVE EARS TO HEAR LET THEM HEAR.

I request the person who answer this question to visit this page again and again to read others comments on your opinion.

If holy spirit starts to ask people to remove their ornaments, the biggest losers in this world (or atleast in Kerala) will be the so called pentecostals. This is because, holy spirit is not biased, and in such a case it will ask you to wear inexpensive black clothes like some hindu monks (which reflects no colour pleasant to your eye), to leave your palace like houses decorated with marbles, granite and some other precious stones, to give up your specs with attarctive frames (often coated with gold), to give up your attractive wrist watch and replace it with the simplest one, to sell your huge possessions and give a part to the poor people around you and many other things. Why do you not extend your doctrine in such a logic way that all of us can simply understand?

Pentecostals are conducting hard core discussions in the case of ornaments, they are arguing on it every time with those who wear them, they are emphasising their state of not using it, they are creating blog posts showing it to the public, they are defending criticisms from all courners with regard to ornaments..... and for what reason? I my opinion, they are the most concerned about ornaments than the people who wear them.Pentecostals give more importance to ornaments than the people who wear them. Shame shame christians !!! Your duty is not not to propagate hypocritical ideas.... go out of your big houses and look into the life of those people in the fields struggling with mud to produce food for your expensive meal... Many of them have ornaments (which you think the biggest possession in this world) but their life can be pathetic. They may not have education, medicine or even a shelter from rain. They wear a few ornaments as they wear their clothes. Nothing more than that they think abour it when you people make ''cyber'' arguments to abolish it. If holy spirit comes to communicate with you, spirit will first show you the way to reach them to give them a helping hand and not to remove their little ornaments.

If you people have conquered your ''freedom to think'' to any church organisation, say good bye to them and come out. To be a true christian you don't need any label of church ''organisation'' or church ''company''. Give up their laws and think freely, wisely, logically and spiritually.
