Meaning of the Ladybug as a Spirit Guide
Connecting with Animal Spirit Guides
Connecting with your animal spirit guide can be enlightening. Understanding your guide can uncover wisdom from deep within yourself. Often the first question people ask me is "how do I know my animal spirit guide?" The answer to this question is quite simple. You don't have to seek out your animal spirit guide. Your animal spirit guide will find you.
Typically when an animal spirit guide makes itself known to you, it will appear recurrently in many different places. Sometimes you'll see them in the wild (with animals living today), sometimes they'll show up on the Television, online in articles or ads, in newspapers/magazines, in dreams, or you might even hear someone talking about it in a passing conversation. If you are open to receiving messages from your animal spirit guide, they will come to you.
Once they appear and you've realized their presence, the best thing to do is to study them. Study the mythology behind the creature, study the various cultures' beliefs of the creature. Study what they eat, their habitat, the ways they move, hunt, and mate. Keep in mind that sometimes after your animal spirit guide's message has been understood, they may disappear. And then another will appear when the next message is ready for you.
Ladybug Folklore and Legends
Do you know how the Ladybug got it's name? It's not because they are so lady-like. According to European folklore, during the Middle Ages, a serf's crops were being eaten by ravenous insects. His entire year's harvest was being threatened, which meant he would have nothing to sell or use himself. He prayed to God and to Mother Mary and a cloud of black and red beetles appeared and ate the other bugs that were destroying his fields. Because of this, he called the black and red beetles "our Lady's bugs" eventually leading to the bug being called ladybugs. This legend could very well be true - for hundreds of years and in modern times, farmers and gardeners frequently release ladybugs to kill off other pests such as aphids. They are beneficial bugs to have in your garden!
If a ladybug lands on you, it is good luck. It is bad luck to kill a ladybug. Superstitions around the ladybug include telling it your wishes and watching it fly into the heavens. An old saying that is still said today by some children goes: "Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home." There is a second part to the saying that most people don't know: "Your house is on fire and your children will burn." The actual meaning of this saying is sort of ambiguous.
Some people will count the spots on a ladybug. Old superstition said if there were less than seven spots, there would be a good harvest. Some ladybugs don't have any spots, which most people are not aware of.
Ladybugs are called ladybirds in places in Europe, and ancient pagans from the Norse countries believed ladybirds were sacred to Freya, Goddess of Love and that they came to earth in a crash of lightning.
Ladybugs are great to talk to. If one lands on you, tell it your secrets and the ladybug will carry it away. In the old days, if a ladybug landed on a sick person, it was believed the ladybug would absorb the illness and take it away from the ill person when it flew off. In particular, ladybugs were associated with relieving abdominal problems.
Ladybugs, because of their association with ancient goddesses of love, are also thought to be a good omen for couples. If a ladybug visits you and your loved one, you are bound to have a healthy romance, according to a Chinese legend. Some say the spots represent the amount of months it will take for your lost love to return.

The Meaning of the Ladybug as a Spirit Guide
If the ladybug has come into your life, you are a lucky one indeed. The ladybug brings messages from the gods, particularly the gods of love.
Maybe you've seen a ladybug in your house on your windowsill. This is the ladybug spirit guide trying to say you may have new opportunities coming soon, and perhaps this new opportunity is one for love. If you see two ladybugs, this is a sign and message from the ladybug spirit guide that you have found your true love.
Ladybugs are quiet, gentle creatures towards humans and also bring messages and reminders of these qualities - silence and gentility. Funny enough, these bugs are anything but gentle towards other bugs (see the section above about ladybugs eating off other pests). So the message here might be to practice kindness and gentility but don't take other people's crap! When it's time to remove the negativity from your life, the toxic people and things that are eating away at your soul, get rid of them for good. They don't serve you any longer.
The ladybug spirit guide might show up to you in person, or potentially on the TV, radio, internet, or on random street signs, clothing patterns, anywhere! If you've noticed a plethora of ladybugs in your life as of recent, the ladybug spirit guide is trying to get your attention and teach you something important. Think about the message the ladybug spirit guide could be bringing to you. Write about your experiences. If you don't know what the message is, it will come in time. Keep an open mind and let the ladybug spirit guide bring you luck and good fortune!
