Metatron the Archangel, Myth or Fact?
If Metatron the angel is real, it's just the coolest Bible name ever!
I just recently heard of this maybe mystical heavenly creature named Metatron. I have to admit it, the cool name grabbed me and said, I have to find out more about this. I'm stupid curious and nosy. Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not. Having a fair amount of Bible knowledge from being a Baptist preacher's daughter since age 5, I have never heard of this one. Gabriel, Michael, sure, I know about and all of the other well-known angels. But what I was finding was that Metratron was supposedly the most powerful of them all. So why have I not heard about it before now? I say "it" instead of "him" because angels are supposedly sexless, although they all seem to have male-sounding names.
What the Jews Believe
From what I've read, the Jews believe that Enoch who was mentioned in the Apocrypha, as well as the Talmud, was transformed into the angel Metatron. He is believed to be the most powerful Archangel and the scribe of heaven.
What different religions and the occult believe about Metatron
Apocrypha Book of Enoch-Enoch transformed in heaven into the angel Metatron. Talmud believes that Metatron was the old version of Enoch.
Christian views about the Apocrypha's existence is touchy, and the only mention referring to him may be in the book Daniel as the Ancient of Days, though most christians just believe that to mean God.
Prays to Archangel Metatron for power, transformation, clarity. Their belief in him as a real spiritual intercessor.
Well Who the Heck is Enoch?
Enoch was the great-grandfather of Noah in the Christian Bible. He only lived around 300 years which was short for those guys who usually lived 700 years. The Bible says he was "taken" into heaven. Genesis 5:24
24 Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.
The Jewish writings say this is when he was transformed into Metatron, not dying a physical death. He was considered the author of the Apocryphal book Enoch.
I do need to take a break here and reiterate that the Holy Christian Bible never, ever mentions the angel Metatron. But if you believe that there are lost books of the Bible, and Enoch is one of them, then you have to consider the possibility that there are things that we don't know about, understand, and maybe never know until we go meet our creator.
Who Believes in Angels
Do you believe in angels?
An Interesting Thing Came Out of My Research...
I learned something that I don't know much about and don't believe in, but I know a few people who do. Wiccans have a strong belief in "good" angels. They pray to them, talk to them, and recognize them. I am not in any way giving credit or condoning Wiccan. It was just interesting to me to find out they had such a strong belief in angels in anyway other than dark ones. I also came across this Metaphysical community belief in a Metatron's Cube, which I give credit to my cousin Sandra for telling me about. I've never heard of Sacred Geometry. I don't like math so it doesn't interest me except why it's named for this Metatron character.
A Little on Sacred Geometry
Its origins are "iffy." From what I researched, Metatron's Cube and Sacred Geometry are mostly believed in the mystic/psychic circles. But there are origins associated with Sacred Geometry that might legitimize it. Plato cited this geometry and the meaning it had in so many structures and nature. Plato said, "God geometrizes continuously." We see that in nature. Do art and building just copy nature? This investigation will have to wait for another article.
Wrapping This Up
I still don't know if Metatron exists. The being has been used in modern culture in movies and games. The late Alan Rickman portrayed it in the 90's movie "Dogma" wonderfully. Metatron is also a character featured in Japanese cartoons and video games. Even famed music artist Carlos Santana claims to have channeled Metatron while tripping on mushrooms and practicing Transcendental Meditation in the 90's. I do believe there is a lot that we don't know and may never know. Even the bible tells us that there is a lot we don't know yet. But it's something interesting to think about.
