Mercury in Virgo Explained

Updated on September 28, 2011

Mercury is the planetary influence that will determine what your personal communication style is. If Mercury is known as the great communicator, and if it happened to be Virgo at the time you were born, this will have an affect on the way you learn, the way you talk, the way you think, and the way you communicate in general with others and the world around you. To learn more about this influence, please see below!

An Eye for Detail

Virgo is very good at the fine details and they know that even the simplest of tasks can be crucial to keeping things moving along at the rate they ought to be. Mercury in Virgo will function best when the details are communicated to them as specifically as possible. These are people who actually want to know precisely what is expected of them at all times, and they don't enjoy people speaking to them in abstract terms. They will communicate with you as directly as possible, and they will do so in an effort to keep everything moving smoothly. Therefore, they appreciate the same in return. Mercury in Virgo is very good placement because every bit of communication that goes in, gets neatly filed away and made use of. These people pay attention very, very well and you will always feel like you're in good hands when one of them is on your team.

Mr. or Ms. Dependable

Few people are quite as reliable as Mercury in Virgo. If you tell Virgo that you need something, they will deliver it down to the letter. If you have a crisis on your hands, these people will not panic and they will easily take on the task of sorting out the chaos. They see things in minute detail and they will put the puzzle pieces together in the order that is most conducive to resolution and they will do so skillfully. They will not do any of the above with the flair of Leo or the energy burst of an Aries, because they don't see the point in wasting precious energy or time on useless expenditures of energy. They will go about fixing your problems in a totally unassuming way, and they will probably not even take credit once the ordeal is over. But when it IS over, you really should go out of your way to let them know how grateful you are that they saved your butt, because even though they will probably just shrug and say, "It was nothing..." they will file that memory of gratitude away forever and they will appreciate it more than you know.

Blunt and Critical

It has to be said that the communication style of Mercury in Virgo is colored by the classic Virgo trait of being critical. They cannot help it, it is in their nature. And because they are such practical people, they will not take a lot of care in stating what they feel is the obvious and you may be left smarting from the bluntness of their remarks. That, and they are masters of the dry delivery, so their observations could result in those around you laughing at your expense. The best you can do in this situation is to not allow your emotions to get carried away. They are not trying to hurt you, they are simply stating what they view as a fact. And if it is any consolation to you, they take criticism as well as they dish it out, so the next time a Virgo annoys you with something, feel free to speak your mind, and you'll see that they handle criticism pretty well.
