God Provides: Miracle Stories Part 4
This is the fourth hub on the Miracles of God that have touched my life. In the last Miracle Hub, I shared stories of the miracle of forgiveness and healing.
In this hub, I will share some personal stories about God's Provision Miracles.
Protecting our Children
To set the stage for telling you about God's provision miracles allow me to give you a very brief run down through some of the most painful yet transforming years of my life.
The nightmare started in a small town in Illinois. My husband was the Pastor of a lovely little Church in the country. It was in this setting that my son flipped out running full steam ahead into destructive rebellion
We loved our Church family and it was the first time in a multitude of years this little Church had experienced growth. As I said the town we lived in was lovely but it also had a very dark underside. My son was being pulled into it, in fact, he was actively pursued and chased down by kids involved in some really dark activities and rituals.
I knew in my heart that if we stayed we would lose him. God gave us children and it was our responsibility to protect them. We had a big decision to make. Our decision was to move him and the family to a safe place. We chose the safest town we knew of so that our son could work through the storm raging inside his heart.

A New Ministry
It was very hard for us to leave our Church family in Illinois but we trusted God as we set out to make parenting our priority.
We had no clue that God would open the door to a New Ministry.
During the early steps of our journey in faith, God provided all of our financial needs. I gained a full-time job at a local Hospital in Human Resources (a miracle in itself) and God provided a full-time job for my husband Gary as a painter.
During this time of provision and transition, I witnessed the hurt and loss on my husband's face. His heart was heavy as he grieved the loss of ministry. He longed to teach and preach - it is his gift. Little did we know God was about to provide a door of opportunity in an amazing Church.
Not long after we had settled in our new community Gary was contacted to visit a Church which was located in a nearby city. This city was about forty-five minutes from the 'safe' town we had found refuge in. Gary was not searching for a Ministry when God showed us an Open Door. He lovingly and abundantly blessed our family with a new Ministry and a supportive Church family.
The Church called my husband to serve as their Pastor. He drove back and forth forty-five minutes each day to serve in the Church. After Pastoring this Flock for many years, the leaders asked Gary to move our family closer to the Church.
Gary told them he could not move. He explained that we felt it would be detrimental to our children's stability. Living and working with a son in full blown rebellion turned our home upside down on many a day. Our girls were plugged in and succeeding in the school system and God had given them some great Christian friends. Gary told the Church that he felt it imperative to stay put until our children were graduated from school.
He also told the Church board that if they felt they needed a Pastor, who lived in town, he would understand and step down. I loved him for taking that stand for our family. The Church chose to keep Gary on as Pastor and wait until we were ready for the move.
Eventually, my two oldest children were graduated and my youngest daughter, Christy, was entering her senior year of high school.
We were in the midst of a building project, for our Church, my husband had led the Church to pursue.
We began to wonder if it might be time to move closer. Although Christy was a very stable girl we did not want to move her unless she was in agreement. After setting the stage and explaining the reasons, Christy felt the call and excitedly joined us in House Searching.
We did our house searing on Sunday afternoons because it was the only day, Church day, we were all together in the area. Each week we looked at houses and houses and more houses. Each week we drove home discouraged because the homes that fell within our price range did not compare with the 'home sweet home' we were currently snuggled into.
The White House
One Sunday, during our trek around the area in search of a home, Gary pulled down a beautiful and peaceful road surrounded by woods. As we rounded a bend, he spotted a new development that was off the main road. He turned in.
Sitting on the corner lot was a brand new white house boasting beautiful windows with turquoise shutters. It was for sale. Gary surprised me when he parked the car in front of it. As I looked over at him I saw his eyes dancing with excitement. "Let's peek through the windows," I suggested.
Since I loved to peek through windows .. of new construction that is .. he eagerly followed. My husband is a man of many talents. One of his talents is carpentry. In the past, he owned his own carpentry business. His customers were always pleased with his work because he is quite the perfectionist.
As he looked through the window into the kitchen he said, "Look at those custom cupboards, now that's what I call quality craftmanship!" I agreed, they were beautiful. We all enjoyed looking through the windows and walking around the house but we also understood it was just for fun because this house was way beyond our budget.
Our search continued for months. Each week, at the end of our search, Gary would drive by the white house. One week as Gary studied the house from the car, I offered to call the builder's number posted on the sign outside the house. He heartily agreed.
As I talked to the builder I explained that my husband was a Pastor and our family was only in town on Sundays. I asked him if it would be possible to look inside the house.
Roger said he usually didn't show houses on Sunday's ... next came a little pause ... "Listen," he said, "There is a key in the garage above the side window. Go ahead and use it. Just put it back when you are finished." I thanked him with enthusiasm and appreciation oozing from each word. As he hung up the phone I heard him chuckle.
Christy and her boyfriend Jon were with us that day. As we went into the house I saw a dream birthed in my husbands eyes. The workmanship throughout the house reflected the quality. As Gary, Christy and Jon went downstairs I stood upstairs in the living room and looked across to the neighbors beautiful house. I sighed as I mused, "wouldn't it be lovely to live here?"
After that first walk through, of the white house, Gary ended our weekly search back at that house. The house was still in the building process and Gary was curious to check on the progress.
One week Gary and Jon dreamed as they planned how the rooms on the lower level should be finished. They talked about how they could make this area a little house within a house - like an apartment. Christy and I were dumbfounded, we wondered what in the world they were thinking as we raised our eyebrows and shrugged our shoulders.
After leaving that day, Gary's face reflected determination. He turned to me and said, "I'm going home and I am going to crunch the numbers until I figure out a way we can get this house." I was amazed that he thought we could actually do it.
Once home Gary took off to his office resolved to figure out a way to purchase the white house. After quite some time, he came up the stairs and as he rounded the corner I caught the sadness plastered all over his countenance.
He sat down beside me shaking his head, "There is NO way on earth we can afford that house." As I held his hand tenderly I answered, "Honey, don't you think that if God really wants us to move by the Church that He already has a house picked out for us?" Gary nodded, resigned and compliant as he replied, "You are absolutely right, let's pray." He prayed a prayer of surrender and trust in God to provide for us.
As Gary was heading back downstairs to his office the phone rang. One of my dearest friends called to tell me that God had laid our family on her heart. She said, "Susie, every house you and Gary have lived in Gary has had to fix up, taking so much of his time." She continued to explain that her husband and she were discussing how they could help us.
I held my breath as she continued. "We have come up with an amount we would like to give you to go toward a down payment on a finished house, one that you will not have to spend hours fixing to make it livable."
I was speechless and tried to object but she continued, "That amount is $40,000.00." she said. I almost fell over. I answered her, "Oh dear friend, we cannot accept this gift, it is way too much." My friend answered, "Well I guess you will have to argue with God then because it is HE who told us to do this."
I did not know what to say or how to process this so I screamed downstairs to Gary,"Pick up the phone!" Gary picked up the phone and my sweet friend told him what God had led her and her husband to do. Gary actually did fall over as his knees buckled and he went weak. He knew this provision was from God and it humbled him to the core. We had just relinquished our desire for the white house and turned the control over to God - in return God gave us the house of our dreams.
The MIracle House and Prophet's Chamber
We now live in the miracle house in a beautiful township surrounded by nature. After a bit of time, Gary and Jon completed the lower level making it a separate home within our home.
A few men from the Church also offered their skilled hands and came alongside the guys in completing the work. The area came together beautifully and was finished with loving hands and careful craftsmanship.
I named it the 'Prophet's Chamber'. It is complete with it's own kitchen and bath, living room, family room and large peaceful bedroom.
We asked God to bless it and use it to minister to people who needed a place to rest or to stay in times of hardship. God has been very, very faithful to answer that prayer. Only God could do this.
