What is God's purpose for money?
Money's biblical purpose vs opinions
Whenever you know the purpose of something...it is less likely to be abused. Money is no different, and if God's purpose for money in the earth is to be accomplished...then we must take a look at its use and abuse from his perspective. One of the best ways to look at what something is, is to look at what it is not. In this lens I have provided biblical facts in relation to traditional opinions about money from God's point of view.
1. God does not need our money, he wants our heart
2. All preachers want is my money
3. Neglect of family
4. Tipping God... while funding personal wants
5. Buying our wants and begging our needs
7. Your view on work
God does not need our money...He wants our heart - Gods purpose for money is to use it to help spread the gospel
One of the misconceptions concerning money is that God needs our money...but this cannot be true because first of all God is a spirit ,and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth so God has no regard for money in that sense...second, the earth is the Lord's and THE FULLNESS thereof and they that dwell therein proves that God already owns it all,so he does not need it.But there is one thing that God wants... and it is man's heart. There are things that need to be done in the earth that concerns God and it does take money for those concerns to be carried out because of his love for mankind. It takes money to survive and operate in this world system and God needs volunteers to use a portion of what he has allowed them to be stewards over to carry out his purposes as it relates to the souls of men. Taking a look at Deut. 8:18 which reads, Remember the Lord thy God for it is he that giveth thee the power to get wealth that he may establish his covenant in the earth proves that God wants his word spread throughout the world so that he can receive sons and daughters into his kingdom The promotional aspect of what goes into the operating expenses of our fast food restaurants and big name retailers today is astronomical because they spend on a monthly and yearly basis millions of dollars to become known throughout the entire world, and God expects nothing less for his purpose. Jesus said this gospel (good news) must be preached in all the world...then shall the end come. Real godly vision and mission is to give a portion of our finance toward getting the Gospel out to those who have not heard...this is one of the most important purposes of money.
He brought them forth with silver and gold:
The children of Israel were in bondage to the Egyptians for 430 years, but finally God brought them out with abundance because Psalm 105 says that he brought them forth with silver and gold. The main purpose for bringing them out with silver and gold was... not to go shopping at the mall (smile) there were no retail stores in the wilderness, it was not to buy food...because he had that covered, he rained down manna, gave them water out of the rock to drink, and he gave them quail for meat. They did not need to buy clothes because their clothes did not wear out.
He tells us the same thing today in Matthew chapter 6...not to worry about what we are going to eat, drink and put on because just as he had Israel covered (psalm 105) their food, drink and clothing (did not wear out)...he has us covered. But what did Israel do with all of the silver and gold? In Exodus 25 God tells Moses to speak to the children of Israel and instruct them to bring him an offering out of the silver and gold that they had. People get offended when Gods true men and women ask for an offering...but right here in Exodus 25 God tells Moses to speak to the children of Israel about giving.Gods purpose for the money is revealed...and build me a sanctuary that I MAY DWELL amongst my people... (Exodus 25:8). Today the hearts of men is Gods dwelling place (1 Corinthians 6:19)
Israels offering = build sanctuary for God to dwell
Our offerings = Spread the gospel to change mens hearts for God to dwell (1 Corinthians 6:19)
All preachers want is your money
Gods purpose for money is to help those who work in ministry
This is my opinion, but I think it is unfair for everyone else to get paid in their profession, but when it comes to preachers...they are all branded as crooks. First of all let me say ,like any other profession you are going to have people who are only in it for the money and this includes preachers...but that does not mean that everybody is doing wrong. The preacher is Gods employee and God says to muzzle not the ox that treadeth out the corn...what this means is this...in bible times oxen were used to tread corn, but while they were working...muzzles were placed over their mouths to stop them from eating while working. The preacher...like the ox works, but he or she works for God and God says that the labourer is worthy of his hire (reward), but people may refuse to give because they think he or she is a crook. They may want them to council...preach and teach...visit their sick...bury their dead...and for some, to maybe even work a full time job, but still perform all ministerial duties while being muzzled and branded as a crook. As I said before there are the bad but they must give an account to God for their wrong deeds.2 Chron. 20 says to believe the Lord your God so shall ye be established...believe his prophets, SO SHALL YE PROSPER. To prosper the way that God wants the church to prosper...we must get back to believing his prophets. Like with Moses (Exodus 25) God still uses his leaders to ask for offerings so that the giver can prosper according to Luke 6:36...give and it shall be given unto you good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom, for with the same measure that you meet, wherewithal it shall be measured unto you again.
Gods purpose for money is for responsible parties to support their family
The bible says that he that provides not for his own house has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel (1Tim. 5:8)...so then to God ...one of the purposes for money is for family provision. Sad to say that around 70% of homes are single family homes with the fathers missing. Notice the scripture says that "he"should be the main provider...but "he"... is missing.God's nature is that of provider, protector and preserver, all of the characteristics that should be exemplified in every father and husband. Finances are needed for daily provision(food clothing etc) while it is also needed for daily shelter and protection... and for college tuition, for future preservation. Many homes today where both parents are there... but the man simply refuses to work and provide, sets the stage for the young men in that home (if any) to follow in the same footsteps as himself. Children not only learn from what is told them ...but also what is shown to them by example. When Gods order is reversed to accommodate mans comfort...confusion emerges. Eve gave to Adam and he did eat (reversed order of provision) so they are kicked out of the garden...family chaos occurs because Adam blames Eve...spiritual chaos occurs because Adam blames God (The woman you gave me) and we are still feeling the effects of those actions because Romans 5:12 declares whereas by one man sin entered into the world and death by sin, so death passed upon all men for all have sinned.
Egypt - Wilderness - Canaan ( 3 areas for provision)
Egypt is symbolic for sin or bondage and it is the place where many of Gods people... such as Israel, were enslaved to work without pay. Many times people (men in general) find themselves in a job that they are enslaved to...working long hard hours without hardly any pay, and they are unhappy and finally give up and refuse to work. Their mindset is...why work when everything is being taken out for child support...or why work when I'm not respected at home... or why work when I never have anything to show for it. Such thinking is under the curse.Because of sin...God told Adam that the ground was cursed for his sake...and from the sweat of his brow he would eat of it. The above statements are a result of the curse...but Jesus shed his blood that this curse would be broken. The crown of thorns that were placed on his brow was the shed blood that removed the curse of man having to work by the sweat of that same brow. And because Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Galatians 3:13-14) being made a curse for us for it is written cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ...work can now be the blessing that God intended from the beginning when he told Adam to dress the Garden of Eden and keep it!
He that provides not for his own house has denied the faith and is worse than an infidel
Tipping God ...while funding personal wants
Gods purpose for money is for us to pay him what belongs to him (tithe = 10%)
There are not many people who love the idea of paying taxes...but in spite of how people feel about it, the Government expects it... and they make sure that they get it because by the time you receive your occupational check...it has already been taken out. God does not use such a system, but he trusts us and leaves it up to us because he wants to see if we love him enough to obey. Malachi 3:10-11 says bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of host, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her figs before the time in the field, saith the Lord of host. This is one of the only places in the bible where God says to prove him or test him to see if he is telling the truth. Numbers 23 says that God is not a man that he should lie or the son of man that he should repent (change his mind). God is not like men who may make promises and later change their mind...well God has not changed his mind, but one will never know... if they do not step out in faith and obey. I personally have been tithing = 10% for over 20 years and I can truly tell you it works. I am by no means a rich person... but I have seen God supernaturally rescue me from time to time. People may make excuses for what they are not willing to do; and tithing is not an exception to this rule; some say tithing was under the law so we do not need to do it today, but the truth is... tithing was before the law was ever given by Moses, because Abraham paid tithe to Melchisedec. People give large sums of money to charities and organizations that they trust in...but what does that say about trusting God and his causes if we only tip him with a couple of dollars here and there so we do not feel guilty. Tithing also is not giving just to get because then we turn that which is sacred into Las Vegas slot machines. But even though we are promised he will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing...if we do nothing, then God has nothing to work through. Notice what Psalm 1 says...WHATSOEVER HE DOETH SHALL PROSPER.
Buying our wants and begging our needs
God is a God of order; and everything he does in the earth comes with this principle in mind...because without it, there would only be confusion...and the bible says that God is not the author of confusion. Order is the accurate arrangement of something, and this accurate arrangement produces productivity, longevity, balance and stability. When God created the heavens and the earth... he was productive, because what he did, worked...too many people keep doing the same thing expecting different results... and the results never change, because if something is not working... people must learn to change... to try new things... until the right combination is found to unlock their destiny. If there is order in what is being done...continuing to do the same thing expecting a different result is not insanity...but persistence, which will pay off in the long run. Proverbs 27:23 says to know the state of thy flocks which is a piece of the puzzle toward financial order. Knowing where you are is the key to knowing what must be done to get out... and get to where you need to be. How much debt am I in? How am I preparing financially for tomorrow? Learning about financial planning and finance in general are all keys in knowing the state of your flocks. Buying your wants and begging your needs will always lead to confusion such as trying to build an ark in the rain...by that I mean when the financial storm is upon you...debt collections...bills due...threatening mail...shut off notices...etc all because of a lack of preparation. God told Noah to build the ark before the storm arrived and because he obeyed and prepared (order) the storm did not affect him and his house. Warnings are signs to prepare not live for the moment. Gods order in creation also brought longevity...because when you do something right the first time... you don't need to go back and do it again and again. Finances will last if they are managed correctly. Gods order in creation also brought balance because there is sowing and reaping...seed time and harvest...night and day... heat and cold...summer and winter (Gen.8:22). Think of what it would be like to go from one extreme to the next...only having sowing without reaping...only having night but no day...only having cold and no heat...it would be hard to survive, and likewise when there is no balance in financial matters (order)...its hard to survive. Gods order in creation brings stability...when something is stable, it is firm, less likely to give way, permanent, and it is something that you can count on happening. We can count on the sun rising and setting...we can count on gravity doing its job because what goes up will always come down. In today's economy it seems that we cannot count on the stock market, wall street or our Government to bail us out, but we can count on Gods system of finance...that what will leave our hand for the kingdom will never leave our life...but it will come back to us good measure pressed down and shaken together and running over shall men give into our bosom.
Gods purpose for money is to teach the importance of giving
The word selfish means having such regard for one's own interests and advantage that the welfare of others becomes of less concern than is considered just. This was the attitude of the rich young ruler when Jesus told him to sell all that he had and give to the poor and come and follow him. The welfare of the poor became less important because he had such high regard for his own interest. This selfish attitude was because this man trusted in riches more than trusting Jesus. Jesus himself says how hard it is for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God. Selfishness can always be traced to trusting riches ability to help more than Gods ability...this is why the bible says you cannot serve God and mammon (riches). The purpose for money is to use it to get rid of selfishness and greed...and you do that by being a giver. It is impossible to be selfish and a giver at the same time. Gods nature is that of a giver because he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
Gods purpose for money is to illustrate that the labourer is worthy of his reward
