More on Elementals

Updated on January 12, 2015

As in my previous hub on the Elementals this hub will have more information about the story of the Elementals, and hopefully answer some questions, while invoking others.

It is believed that the Elements of Earth, Air, Water and Fire are the very foundations of life as we know it. It is an ancient belief that four Supreme Beings were sent to the fledgling Earth when it was nothing but an orb of ooze. These Beings or Spirits were sent to settle the Earths chaos and to calm its universe, when the Spirits came down from the Heavens they became each of the Elements and thus forever linked nature and humankind with the rest of the Divine universe.

Since the Supreme Beings were sent to rule the elements, as previously discussed the Earth is governed by the Gnomes, Water by the Undines or Odines, Fire is ruled by the Salamander and Air by the Sylphs. Each of these elements are said to be represented by the pentagram with the fifth point representing the spirit or God and Goddess, so each element is given what is called a cardinal direction Earth to the North, Air to the East, Fire to the South and Water to the West.

Much controversy reigns over the Guardians or Lords of the Watchtowers depending on what you believe. Some believe that they are nothing other than the Elementals themselves and that the Watchtowers are their “homes.” While others believe that the Watchtowers and Elementals themselves are watched over by Archangels. The Archangels that coincide with the Watchtowers are most often Michael, Raphael, Ariel and Gabriel. In some corners the Watchtowers themselves have names that refer back to faery cities such as Gorias for the East, Murias for the West, Falias for the North and Finias for the South.

Here you will find the main points that correspond with each of the four elements:

Earth- is associated with the Goddess and the Moon along with Venus. Many of you know about zodiac signs and those associated with the Earth are Virgo, Taurus and Capricorn, the season most associated with this element is autumn. Fertility, quiet, health, courage, strength and patience are all associated with the element of Earth along with the color green. The Earth is also said to influence the matters of the heart, herbal Magick, artistic ability, grace, luxury, gardening, dancers, designers, entertainment, painting, poetry and music are bit a few. Earth is considered the all encompassing symbol for all life, it is true that the other elements are also life forces, but the Earth is the accommodator among them as she allows the Water to flow over her body and cut its way through her surface, the Air communicates with the Earth and Fire lives in the Earth’s belly.

Water- is associated with the Goddess, the Moon and the planet of Jupiter. The zodiac signs that derive from the water element are Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio, the season associated with the water element is winter. Water is used when dealing with things such as wealth, abundance, opportunity, logic, gambling and social matters. The water element is the caller to the West and is often represented by a chalice or cauldron. It is also thought the water is an influence on brooding, poison, religion, philosophy, horses, sports, luck and studying. Blue is the color most associated with water. Water is also a life force and is what we as human beings are mostly made of, so does this mean water rules us all?

Air- is associated with the God, the Sun and the zodiac signs of the Libra, Gemini and Aquarians. Spring is the air season while the wand or incense and smoke are also representations of the Air Elementals. It is believed that the Air governs light, health, goals, ambition, personnel finances, fun, drama, crops, totem animals, volunteer services, squandering, frivolity, autism, hurricanes and cyclones. Air is also used for healing energy, clairvoyance, mental alertness, intelligence, prosperity, harmony, creativity, the color yellow and the metal silver are all associated with the air element.

Fire- is associated with the God, the Sun, Mars and Mercury; the zodiac signs attached to this sign are Aries, Sagittarius and Leo. Summer is the fire season it corresponds with the South and the athame or sword. It is thought that Fire rules over candles, torches, illumination of any kind. It represents strength, power, courage, vitality, passion and defense. The Fire Elementals are said to influence energy, aggression, sex, guns, sports, metals, police, war, soldiers, luck, ambition and justice.

These are in no way a complete list of all that are represented by the four Elementals, more like a scratching of the surface. I do hope you enjoyed reading this and maybe learned something you did not previously know. Blessed Be!
