Morning Coffee with Jesus - August 9, 2012

Updated on August 8, 2012

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.15 As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from recognizing him. (Luke 24:13-16 – NIV)

I could set my watch by the faithful walkers that pass by my home every morning. No matter the weather, they are very strict in their walking regimen. Sometimes I actually do use their faithfulness to gauge my own timing – if Mrs. W. has passed by I know that I have a few extra minutes. But if Emily comes by I know that I’m behind schedule and I need to get out of the house to make it to work on time.

Sometimes, on my days off I join the ranks and walk too. But my stride and my pace doesn’t match those who are “experienced” walkers. I usually slow them down which tends to frustrate them . I’m so glad that Jesus never becomes frustrated with me on my daily walk with Him!

In our scripture above, two men were walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus and Jesus came to them and began talking with them about the events of the day. Jesus walked with them and they could not recognize that the One who, that very day rose from the dead, was in their midst.

Sometimes on our walk with Jesus we are at a different pace than He. Sometimes we walk faster than Jesus and He beckons us to slow down! Not because He can’t keep up – He certainly can – but because He knows if we continue at such a fast pace we’ll wear ourselves out. Other times, we are the ones who fall behind Jesus and He has to wait for our hearts and our minds to catch up to the plan and purpose He has for us.

If we daily seek after Him and “check in” with Him before we begin our daily walk, we capture, through His word and through the voice of the Holy Spirit, the pace, the plan, and the purpose for the day.

So today, before you begin your day, give Jesus your time and attention. Don’t fail to recognize His presence as you walk along the road of life. Pay attention to the leading of the Holy Spirit so you can keep pace with the Creator of all things!

Have an awesome journey today!

Blessings,
Elisa
