Morning Coffee with Jesus - December 21, 2009
Greetings loved ones!
Today’s “Morning Coffee with Jesus” comes from Matthew 25:40. “The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'”
Yesterday my church prepared 50 boxes of food to give away to needy families in the Center City, Allentown (Pennsylvania) area. Through a local contact there, 50 families were given a voucher designating one box of food for each family along with instructions and time ranges during which the food basket could be picked up.
At the end of the day, several boxes of food remained; some people never came to pick up their box of food. Rather than allow the food to go to waste, Pastor Tom stood out on the sidewalk and asked people if they would like to take one of the baskets. One young man came in excited telling us that he had not eaten since the day before. Others received the boxes of food with grateful hearts too – their smiles warmed our hearts.
As we were locking up at the end of the evening, with one box of food remaining, a woman wearing worn clothing and no coat walked by. One of the members of our church, Phyllis, asked her if she would like the remaining basket. “Oh yes, my house burned down last week and I have nothing,” she quickly replied.
As I watched the boxes of food go out the door I thought about Jesus providing for the needs of these people. But it was more than just the food He provided. It was the promise “I will never leave you or forsake you,” fulfilled. How blessed I was to witness it!
Though the recipients of the boxes of food were strangers, Hebrews 13:2 reminds us, “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”
Angels or humans, we were touched by the joy of being able to provide a meal for people in need. This side of heaven we may never know how those boxes of food touched lives but one day we will know. Yesterday was “Christmas” for me and I received the greatest gift of all, God’s love, wrapped up in smiles and heartfelt “Thank you’s.” What an amazing God we serve!
Have an awesome day in Jesus. Go MAD in someone’s life today!
Stay sweet,
stay broken,
stay His!
Blessings,
E.
