Morning Coffee with Jesus - December 3, 2009

Updated on December 3, 2009

Hello loved ones.

Today’s “Morning Coffee with Jesus” comes from Isaiah 9:6.  “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

I happen to love that scripture verse and if I cannot find Christmas cards which have that verse printed in them I usually print out the verse on a separate piece of paper and include it in the Christmas cards.  It has become a tradition of mine.

Most of us have traditions with respect to “the holidays.”  We may go to Grandma’s on Thanksgiving and the in-laws on Christmas.  Or, perhaps you are the one who hosts and has a gathering of family and friends at your home during a holiday.  Traditions can be wonderful and provide a sense of comfort and well-being.  Traditions can evoke strong emotions especially when it comes to loved ones who have passed away since the last celebration of those traditions.  However, traditions can also become cumbersome and difficult.  They can lose their meaning when tradition is carried out for the sake of “tradition.”

Is a tradition a good thing to continue if no one truly appreciates what the tradition represents?  If the tradition becomes mechanical year after year do we miss the opportunity to bless others by doing something different because we must stick to tradition?  Are we missing the true path to “Christmas” if we walk only the tradition road?  What does it take to start new traditions?  Is there someone with whom you could start new traditions?  Someone, possibly even someone you don’t know at this time, who would understand the true meaning of Christmas because you took the time to listen, to share, to laugh or to cry?

Today, think about what traditions you have established or have been established for you that maybe just don’t work for you any longer.  Hold up those traditions in light of eternity.  How will they fair?  Then, brainstorm about what traditions you could create and choose one and go for it!  Christmas will take on a more wonderful meaning and isn’t that what the holidays are all about anyway?

Have an awesome day in Jesus.  Go MAD in someone’s life today!

Stay sweet,
stay broken,
stay His!
