Morning Coffee with Jesus - January 26, 2010

Updated on January 25, 2010

Happy Tuesday loved ones!

Today’s “Morning Coffee with Jesus” comes from Isaiah 57:15. “For this is what the high and lofty One says - he who lives forever, whose name is holy: 'I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.'"

Saint Augustine commented on this scripture as follows, “"O Truth who is Eternity! And Love who is Truth! And Eternity who is Love! You are my God, to You I do I sigh night and day. When I first knew You, You lifted me up that I might see there was something for me to see and that I was not yet what I wanted to see. And You, streaming forth Your beams of light upon me most strongly, did beat back the weakness of my sight, and I trembled with love and with awe; as I perceived myself to be far off from You in the region of unlikeness."

I think about Paul's statement "my righteousness is as filthy rags." This is what St. Augustine is telling us here - that we, in light of Jesus' righteousness, truth, and eternity are so far off from Christ's likeness. But God, in His mercy, grants us grace because we are NOT like Christ - and that remarkable, amazing grace is what we need to consider daily, and thank God that his "mercies are new every morning."

With a contrite and lowly spirit, Christ can do much in us and through us. And in doing so, revives us when He does. How wonderful it is to be used by God to minister to the needs of others. Although many people don't see the way in which God uses us day to day, He does - through a smile, a handshake, a prayer offered on behalf of another, a word of encouragement, a meal shared with a friend......SO many way in which God can use us if we are willing to be used by Him.

Look around you today. How can you share Christ with someone? It does not have to be spoken; your actions can be Christ-like without uttering a word. Look for opportunities today and make the most of those opportunities. God knows your heart and will use a contrite and lowly spirit and, in turn, will revive the heart of the contrite.

Go and make it a GOD day! Then it will also be a GOOD day! Remember - Good minus 'God' equals O. Go MAD in someone’s life today!

Stay sweet,
stay broken,
stay His!

I am so thankful for God's grace! I fall so far short of the mark but I am humbled and thankful that God still loves me, despite ME!

      Thanks for your comments.

Again another challenging hub! It is too often we forget that we are saved by grace and that indeed our little but of righteousness is, as you quoted, "as filthy rags in front of God’s eyes." So who are we to think we are too good to go out and mingle with all of God's children? Thanks, Elisa, for unknowingly make me step out of my comfort zone!
