My First Published Devotional and My Experience With Self-Publishing
After much research and hard work on how to self publish, I finally finished a book to sell on Kindle. In the past, I wrote for Demand Studios, Blogger and of course the HubPages which I am obviously still doing. I thought I would try to write an eBook first. Using my past experience in working in the mental health field, along with learning and studying the bible and not to mention my own struggle with depression, I have combined my humble experiences to write a Christian devotional book.
One of my sons, designed the cover for my book in which I am quite pleased with. I am excited and plan to write more. Although, I don't plan to make a lot of money doing this, I am pleased with the finished result and enjoyed learning everything I did to complete the project. I just wanted to say that you Hubbers have been an absolute encouragement to me, especially those who were inspired and encouraged from my hubs. In addition, and your comments were so very encouraging to my spirit. I love you all and enjoy reading hubs that are from my heart.
I would also like to mention that my first book Dealing with Depression Daily Devotions, I made the mistake of just writing and publishing. The format was bad and it needed to be edited and re-edited but this is how I learn. You see my problem (or some say talent) has always been just to write what comes to my mind and heart down. I didn't want any family members or friends to read it, nor did they ask. I just wrote and pressed publish. Later I went and fixed it all up, by tweaking the format and editing it, so I did publish a second edition. I like to work backwards which will drive most people crazy. This helps me learn the best for the next time and it probably does't make that much sense to anyone, especially if you are a perfectionist.
Since that first book I've done numerous other ones. I've published mostly devotional type of books and a few poetry ones. Later I published a few other paperback ones which are available on Createspace and Amazon.

If I was to interview myself a few questions this is what they would be with the answers. LOL! I'm not that crazy but one of my Grandma's sayings were, If you talk to yourself you're not crazy, but if you answer yourself you are! Well maybe I am crazy either way here they are:
1. Do you make a lot of money selling your books?
No, but I hope it will increase with time. It is still in the hobby stage.
2. Do you advertise?
Not really, besides a little bit of blogging. My goal was to self-publish without spending a dime so that any money I make it is gain. If I make more money and it becomes steady I then will pay for advertising.
3. Do you also publish under other names? Yes, I have a juvenile fiction under a different name and a memoirs book. I'm also working on a fiction book right now.
4. How many books have you given away as freebies? Over 10,000
5. What was your favorite Christian Book? It was a book that this very old Christian lady gave me and it was called" Rees Howells Intercessor by Norman Grubb- The Welsh Coal miner a Prince with God. This man's amount of faith was astounding to me and it was all to the glory of God and how God provided for ministries. I highly recommend this book and I plan to read it again.
6. Do you believe that only Jesus Saves? Yes
7. What was your favorite classic type of book? A Tree that Grows in Brooklyn.
8. Who is your favorite Canadian Author? Alice Monroe she is a fiction writer.
I live in Canada and I guess I would consider myself and inspirational writer and I've authored over 15 books. According to some book reviews her books have helped some people find hope and restoration during some bleak times. I wrote the first one because I struggled with depression myself and wanted to write something that was geared towards Christians who also battled with it.
My writing style allows me to share openly and honestly about my experiences so that others can relate and apply it to their own lives. My main focus is on Bible verses and Jesus' teachings and what they mean to me and how they encouraged me, it is not written from a theologian's or a bible scholars point of view. Basically, I just enjoy sharing with others about my past struggles and sometimes ongoing ones as well. As I am learning how to have victory I pass on what I learn. Some people say it is very basic, others say basic but stuff they never really thought about.
