No Other Way But The Cross
No Other Way But The Cross
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed,
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me . Yet not as I will but as you will.”
Matthew 26 : 39
At Gethsemane there came the most critical moment of his life, Jesus prayed his most agonizing prayer, This was indeed the ultimate battle over the flesh and self-will. As he prayed, Jesus could see the cup he is about to drink. This is such seemingly an unbearable cup. He saw in it all the horrible moments awaiting him, the trials before ungodly men, the mockeries of the crowd, the painful flagellation, the carrying of the cross under the scorching heat of the sun, and the excruciating pains of crucifixion, added to it all the shame and humiliation he will encounter.
The flesh cried out, if it is possible for this verdict not come to him, but Jesus victoriously accepted the will of the Father, “ Yet not as I will but as you will.”
Jesus was seeking the Father, could there be other way, other than the horrible crucifixion to be a way for the salvation of the world’s lost sinners. Could there be any other way other than the way of the cross ?
The Father had remained in silence implying Jesus that there is no other way. The cross indeed is the best means provided for the salvation of world’s lost sinners. It is very painful for Christ to bear the sufferings of the cross but the Father has no other alternative. The cross is the best means according to the wisdom of God. So Christ submitting completely to the Father’s wisdom accepted the death on the cross willingly.
For the cross is the ultimate way God could ever best demonstrate His eternal love for the lost sinners of the world. There is no other way to demonstrate God’s love for sinners other than Christ’s death on the cross. For Christ’s death on the cross implies that God is not willing to spare His very own Son, it implies that God is willing to give His Son as the ultimate sacrifice for the salvation and redemption of the world’s lost sinners. Yes God is willing to make the sacrifice of seeing His beloved Son’s cruel death on the cross
He allowed this thing to happen because He is very much willing to share with you the glory of His gift of Eternal Life.
After the horrible cross, comes the glorious resurrection of Christ. Truly the cross is the way to glory, Christ experience the glory of resurrection because he first choose to die on the cross. As Christians to experience the glory in our Christian life, we must live like Christ in complete surrender to the will of the Father, dying to our own self and will.
