Oh No-Not Another Antichrist Story?

Updated on February 25, 2011

Oh No - Not Another Antichrist Story!

Over the years I’ve read over thirty books that named the Antichrist. If you tell me when the book was published and I can almost guess who was the Antichrist in that time period. Here are a few of the persons who have been named as the Antichrist since the 1900; during the World I it was the Kaiser of Germany, than there was FDR, followed by Hitler, there is also JFK—(John Kennedy), then Henry Kissener, of course there was George Bush and now President Obama and Ahmadinejad. That’s just a few of the people named as the Antichrist in recent history. It would be possible to go back to the 1st century and name more, but this is enough to give a person an idea as to whom the anti-Christ might portray himself.

On one account I read concerning the Antichrist, the author is of this opinion, and here is the Scripture he uses to support this idea: Matthew 25:12-13 (ASV) “But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.” The thought here is that if Christ doesn’t know when He’s coming back, neither does Satan, therefore Satan has a person in each generation prepared to be the Antichrist.

However, the appearance of the Antichrist was also a concern in the early church, . Here are a few verses that were in some of the letters written to the early church: Jude 1:18-20 (NASB77) 18 that they were saying to you, " In the last time there shall be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts." 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith; praying in the Holy Spirit; and 2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NASB77) 1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.
2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; and avoid such men as these. These Scripture also are used to support the idea that the Last Days may have started in the time of Christ.

Before going further, it might be best to come up with a definition of
Antichrist. It can mean anyone who opposes Christ, which is probably the most well known and accepted definition, and it can also mean someone who replaces or is “instead of Christ”.

In my opinion to really be the Antichrist, he has to control three things, on a world wide bases: 1. The political, 2. The economical, and 3. The religious. If these three things can’t be controlled, than the Antichrist can’t control the world. Are there any organizations in existence today that the Antichrist could use to control the world? Yes! He could use the UN as a platform for the political, he could also use the European Economical System for the economical and The World Council for the religious but this leaves out the control of other religions, such as your, Muslims, Eastern Religions and others, so it will be interesting to see how this will come about.

What is frightening is the Antichrist will be given his power on a voluntary bases; not a power take over. The world will be in such chaos in every area, people will give the Antichrist his power because he will at least give a temporary solution the the worlds problems. This giving of power to the Antichrist on a voluntary bases may be because of the lackadaisical attitude of Christians. He will provide an element of peace, stabilize the economy and have the people of the world worshiping him. Take the religious element for example: how many churches have become nothing more than “social clubs with a tax exemption?” For example: take a hymn book from 1945 and compare it with a hymn book of today and you may notice that there is very few hymns that refer to the blood of Christ, even though His spilled blood was necessary for us to have salvation. (This is because some in the churches of today are of the opinion that “talking” about the shed blood of Christ is not really required.)

Here is just one verse that will document how important Christ shed blood is: Romans 3:23-25 (NASB77) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith.

Then there is the downward spiral of morals . Since my wife and I were on the mission field for 32 years, when we returned to the states, it was a shock to see how morals have degenerated over this period of time and are now things that were considered immoral, (by society in general), when my wife and I left for the mission field are now considered the norm. For example: some women cuss and use “gutter” language in a normal sentence; and some men have lost a lot of the respect for women. TV is horrible on how immoral it portrays things. When we left to view a man and woman in the same bed was forbiden, but now you not only see them in bed together, they at least simulate having sex.

What makes this even worse, young people aren’t even aware of how negative things have become. For example: one young lady I know, who is a Christian, thinks there is nothing wrong with a man and woman living together if there is no sex. When I pointed out to her it could damage her Christian testimony if a new Christian, or someone from her job who  she was trying to influence for Christ  and thinks this is wrong:  it made her think about this, and the expression on her face indicated to me she had never thought about this before because she thought living together  without being married was normal.

Of course, most all generations think the one next one after them is worse, and this may be true, but it just goes to prove, that when we accept the negative acts as norm, and if this general down-hill spiral continues, and Christians do nothing, it’s going to allow the Antichrist his power.

Here is a verse from the Bible that is just as currant as it was when the Apostle Paul wrote it to Timothy in the first century: 2 Timothy, 3:1-7 (ASV) 1 But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power therefore. The Apostle Paul wrote these words in the 1st century. But, keep in mind Christians down through the ages have felt this negative actions applied only to their generation. In fact, adults who were my parents age use to say the same thing. Almost the same thing is true concerning those today who are in their teens and early 20’s and they will probably say it to the young people of their generation. The question is, could it be true of today’s time?

Based on the various references from the Bible quoted throughout this article, some
Christian people claim that maybe the “count down” to the Great Tribulation started with Christ’s death, resurrection and accession into heaven.

Consider these facts: Julis Caesar travel mostly by horse, and so did most folks until the early part of the 1900’s, (that’s almost 2000 years when the primary means of transportation was by animal power.) Look at the medical advances. On V-E Day , (Victory over Europe in WWII), I was in the hospital having my appendix removed—and at that time it was considered a major operation and I stayed in the hospital a number of days but today, it’s almost on a out-patient bases,  (which is a great medical advance, but it goes to show how fast we are making advances.) Today you can view the current war in Iraq in living color via when I was a kid, it was either the radio, or an up-date at the movies. . Now we have have the Personal Commuter,  than the Internet, soon after came of cell phone and now we have Smart Phones, and other modern devices that were just an "idea" a few decades ago.

In the world scene, we have unrest in the middle East and though-out the world, we have the enemy in the USA, decisions are being made in the government that is anti-Christian and other factors are in "play" that can favor the appearance of an Antichrist. Many countries, including the USA, are having financial problems, with no long term solution being revealed.  Each county has become dependant on other countries for necessary supplies, such as oil, which is under the control of non-Christian and anti-Christian elements.

While books will continue to be written , sermons preached and Hub Pages written about the Antichrist, and it makes an interesting topic but it really doesn’t have that much effect on things UNLESS Christians realize that there really is an AntiChrist and there will be a Great Tribulation. It’s time for Christians to let their, “light” shine!

Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Bottom line: it’s reassuring to know that God is in control!
