Numerology Number 7 and Jains

-Mahaveer Sanglikar

Jainism is an ancient religion of India and the followers of this religion are known as Jains. Here is how some specific numbers have played their role in Jain history, literature and elsewhere.

Let us start with the word JAIN. Its numerical value is 7.
J A I N = 1+1+9+5 =16 =1+6=7

Number 7 is related with Business, Industry, Spirituality and religion. We find all these traits in most of the Jains. Many of the Jains are engaged in business activities and at the same time most of them are religious and spiritual.

As a community, they are spelled JAINS. The numerical value of JAINS is 8. This number is related to money, wealth, administration, education and spirituality. Again, we find all these traits in Jain Community.

In the word JAIN, number 1 comes for two times (J and A). 1 is related to initiative, exploration, management, leadership etc. These qualities are seen in large scale in Jain community.

There is a 9 in the word Jain. (I=9). 9 is a number which has great spiritual qualities. It is a humanitarian number. Jains are well known for their humanitarian activities like promoting education in masses, running educational institutions, charity, Animal welfare and so on.
The name number 7 and the value of the letter I which is 9, both are related to spirituality and religion. As there are both the numbers, they increase these qualities in Jains.

The last letter of JAIN is N. The numerical value of N is 5. This number is related to smart work rather than hard work. The number is about quick analysis, quick thinking, quick decisions, money matters, education, public relations etc. These are the essential qualities of most of the Jains.

Karmic Debt Number 16

J A I N = 1+1+9+5 =16. 16 is one of the Karmik Debt Numbers. Some qualities of this number are: Introvert, Introspective, isolated, aloof, emotionally detached etc. They believe in 'Mind your own business' policy. Also, they are misunderstood by others because of these qualities. Moreover, they can be targeted by others. All these things are true about Jain community.

Numbers 3, 6, 9 in the Life of Bhagwan Mahaveer

In numerology, the numbers 3, 6 and 9 are related to one group. These numbers have played a great role in Jain concepts, history, literature and philosophy. I will show you how. Don’t think it is just a co-incident. In fact, it is numerology. I think Jain seers knew about numbers and their impacts.

There were 24 Teerthankars (Ford Makers, or you can say great- great seers). Now 24 = 2+4 =6.

The last, i.e. 24th Teerthankar was Bhagwan Mahaveer.

He left his home in search of knowledge at the age of 30. 30= 3+0 =3.

He for 12 years. 12 = 1+2 = 3

He was enlightened at the age of 42. 42 =4+2 =6

He spread his message in various parts of North India for 30 years. 30 =3+0 =3

He observed 42 Chaturmases (Rainy Seasons) in his life. 42 = 4+2 =6

He attained Nirvan at the age of 72. 72 =7+2=9

Thus here we see the numbers 3, 6 and 9 were repeatedly playing their role in life of Bhagawan Mahaveer.

It is interesting to know that the name of Bhagawan Mahaveer's mother Trishala (Tissala) itself mentions number 3. (Tri means 3).

Now let us see how this group of numbers repeatedly came at other places.

Numbers 3, 6, 9 in Jain Mythological Great Personalities

There are 63 great personalities in Jain mythology, who are known as Trishashthi Shalaka Purush. 63 = 6+3 =9

Out of these 63 personalities, 24 personalities are Teerthankars. 24 =2+4 =6

There are 12 Chakravartis (mythical emperors of the world) in these 63 personalities. 12=1+2=3

There are 9 Balbhadras (Gentle Heroes), 9 Narayans (Violent Heroes) and 9 Prati Vasudevas (Anti Heroes).

Out of these 63 personalities, 3 Teerthankars were Chakravartis too. So the actual number of the personalities is 60. So 60 = 6+0 = 6

Apart from these 63 personalities, there are other great personalities mentioned in Jain mythology. They are 9 Naradas and 24 Kamdevas. 24 = 2+4 =6

3, 6, 9 at Other Places in Jainism

There are 9 Principles (9 Tattvas)

In Jain cosmology, there are According to Jainism, the universe is made of 6 eternal elements. (6 Dravyas).

There are 6 colors of souls. (6 Lesyas)

The number of the most important Sacred Books of Jainism, which are known as Angas is 12. 12 = 1+2 =3

However, there are few exceptions, where we do not see the numbers which can be divided by number 3. But the number of these exceptions is not very high.

It is a subject of research why numbers 3, 6, 9 repeatedly occurs in Jain literature and mythology.
