On Guarded Wings

Updated on January 16, 2012

On feathered wings she travels by

Above the trees across the sky

With grace and poise She floats on air

Darting here and diving there

We gaze with envy as she flies by

Wishing if only we could fly

And climb up high into the air

To rest above in tree top’s lair

With night a pause and chance of rest
While snuggled safe within her nest
Her young held close against her breast
That morning's calm finds her refreshed

She worries not the day ahead
For food to keep her offspring fed
As the Master watches from above
And to the least of all extends his love

Then how much more are we to him
That to us as well his love extends
We worry of what tomorrow brings
While lusting for our petty things

When will we learn to trust in faith
As the Master extends to us his grace
And for even the smallest creatures life
He watches us both day and night

Beautiful poetry, You manage to put our lives into perspective. Describing our own wants and needs as petty and worrying about tomorrow, when we should enjoy our lives for now and put our faith in the right place.

A beautiful and moving retelling of the old Bible parable about God caring for the sparrows and their implicit trust that their needs will be met. Very Nice poem.

Thank you both for reading and expressing your thoughts. A friend asked me to write a poem about a bird and this was what spoke to my heart. I am please you both found pleasure in it, and its true meaning.

Great poem. Most of the things written along these lines tend to be corny. Your work tends to be true. This is a very creative representation of a familiar parable that has been internalized an elaborated.

      You are giving back.
