Alhamdu Lillah: Be a Muslim

Updated on November 8, 2012

Alhamdu Lillah for the gift He gave us.... One more day to live. He offered us this blessing and also the chance to choose the way to spend it. A choice according to which we will be judged on the Judgement Day.

Good or bad, our deeds will be written forever in our book, and one more day is gone forever.

Every day is a new chance to repent. Every breath is a new chance to repent. But instead of showing gratitude to Allah and take the chances He offers us, we, ungrateful, find in each day an occasion to please our desires and to follow Shaytan, our enemy...

{Behold! We said to the angels, "Bow down to Adam": They bowed down except Iblis. He was one of the Jinns, and he broke the Command of his Lord. Will ye then take him and his progeny as protectors rather than Me? And they are enemies to you! Evil would be the exchange for the wrong-doers!} Quran 18:50

Since it is offered by Allah, we should live the day in the way that pleases Him. Even if the choice can be done, there is still a time where all our acts and talks will be reviewed. And our fate will depend on what we did in this life.

Our disobedience will lead us to Hell. A punishment that was delayed to the after-death just to make our life a test, and to give us time to repent until our death moment.

This mercy of Allah isn't well understood by people. They keep on disobeying Him, forgetting that the One who gives them chances can easily take all the chances from them. They forget about His anger and live like no death can be.

{O mankind! do your duty to your Lord, and fear (the coming of) a Day when no father can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father. Verily, the promise of Allah is true: let not then this present life deceive you, nor let the chief Deceiver deceive you about Allah.} Quran 31:33

Do we really have time to repent?

The answer of this question is the following: "Are you sure that you'll be able to take the next breath?"

We don't know when is the end of our life. Thus, every single breath is a barrier after which we can stay alive, as we can die. So the time given to us is known only by Allah, and we will never know when it will be out. This is why we have to live every breath as if it was our last.

Don't delay repentance...
Don't delay repentance...

What if the sun rises from west tomorrow

And the doors of Tawbah are ever closed

What if the breath you take will be your last

What if the persons you wronged leave this life forever

What if the Quran books will be taken

How many Ayat have you memorized?

It is time for you to become wiser

This life will vanish

Nothing will ever last

Will it be better to dwell in Garden?

Or in Hell you already chose a place?

"Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves." Quran 2:222

How to live in the way that pleases Him?

Allah sent Quran to us to enlighten our life and show us the way to take. My talks can't be more expressive than reading Quran or Hadith description of a believer.

We can divide the behaviours that a believer should have on two parts. The way to behave with his Lord, and the way to behave with humanity. Islam gave much importance to the individual and social side of a person, in a way that Quran and Sunnah gave a detailed and correct daily life with all what a Muslim can face.

A lot of verses in Quran describe how Muslim should be. From these verses, I chose to share from Surat Almu'minun (The believers):

{The believers must (eventually) win through,- (1) Those who humble themselves in their prayers; (2) Who avoid vain talk; (3) Who are active in deeds of charity; (4) Who abstain from sex, (5) Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame, (6) But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;- (7) Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants; (8) And who (strictly) guard their prayers;- (9) These will be the heirs, (10) Who will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever). (11)} Quran: 23

In the same Surah:

{Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord; (57) Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord; (58) Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord; (59) And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;- (60) It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them. (61) On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged. (62)} Quran: 23

Not only the Quran can be taken as guide, also the Sunnah (acts and talks) of our prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). His wife Ummu Almu'minin (The mother of believers) Aisha -May Allah be pleased with her- said, describing the prophet: "He was a walking Quran"

Let's see what did the walking Quran, the messenger Muhammad (p.b.u.h), said about the characteristics and qualities of a believer through the following Ahadith (plural of Hadith: talks of the prophet p.b.u.h)

"A true Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims stay safe." (Bukhary and Muslim)

"A person whose neighbor is not safe from his mischief will not enter paradise" (Sahih al-Jami')

"The most perfect believer is the one with the best manners." (Ahmad and Abu Dawud)

"Allah has revealed to me that you must be humble towards one another, so that no one wrongs another or arrogantly boasts to another." (Abu Dawud)

I can't invest all the Ahadith and Quran chapters that describe believers. But you can start with this. Read Quran always and work with its guidance.

There is still much to learn about how should our comportment be and how to have a tranquil life holding on the Quran and Sunnah. You can read the Sirah (life story) of Sahabah (the companions of the messenger) too and apply the high values their lives contained on your own life.

Give a helping hand without waiting for recompenses. Learn how to control anger. How to be thankful. Treat your parents with love and respect. Love for the others what you love for yourself. Be humble. Be kind to vagabonds, poor, and orphans. Be truthful and honest..... And spread the values that beautified your life so that all those around you live beautifully.

If the next breath will be your last, live it with Allah's love and obedience.
