Opportunity: What will you do with it?
You have heard the expression when opportunity knocks you need to answer it. Each and every day we have an opportunity. God provides it. So God is ultimately giving each of us the greatest opportunity. What we decide to do with it is ultimately up to us. When I was younger I never thought about the opportunity God gave. Instead I was caught up with the materialistic, worldly and artificial things I thought this world was all about. They say youth is wasted on the young and I certainly was a prime example of this. It has taken me many years to understand that God is about and offers so much more. Paul writes about when I was young I did youthful things but now I am a man so I put away childish things. There is a real value to opportunity and a time for giving a part of yourself that gives back more than you can ever imagine. The real joy becomes in getting to that place where giving is far better than receiving. It is far better to serve than to be served. Helping someone else can become your greatest aspiration. Loving your neighbor the way that Jesus instructs us to do. Love is not just a word but most importantly it results in an action .... a loving action. Contemplate the magnitude of how much God loves you in sending Jesus to be the answer for your sin. Could He indeed love us any greater than that? His love has no boundaries. It is agape. It is complete and thorough. His love is truly far above any and all human comprehension. I for one often wonder how He can love so much a wretch like me. Yet, He does love me and I feel it every day. What an incredible gift. The very next time that you are given an opportunity to help someone even if it is merely an encouraging word, take it. It may very well be from God Himself. He may indeed want you to do His work while you are still here. He wants us to have a heart like He does. We have to try to do things His way rather than our way. So use the opportunity to love and love big ... really big. It will make you feel so very incredible. It will make all the difference in your life. Indifference towards others will become a thing of your past. Not your present and not your future. It will indeed make you feel so close to God. He is right here so take the opportunity to know and love Him. He loves us. He saves us. Here are some verses in the Bible which highlight opportunity:
Colossians 3:23 And whatever you do, do it hardily as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve The Lord Christ.
James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Colossians 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.
Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.
2 Corinthians 2:12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord.
Matthew 3:10 Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love; in honor giving preference to one another; not lacking in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer, distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
God bless always.
