Our Mighty Shield In Perilous Times

Our Mighty Shield In Perilous Times

I lift my eyes to the hills.

Where does my help come from ?

My help comes from the Lord,

the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip.

He who watches over you will not slumber.

Indeed, He who watches Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you.

The Lord is your shade at your right hand;

The sun will not harm you by day

nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm

He will watch over your life.

The Lord will watch your coming and going

Both now and forever more.

Psalm 121 :1 – 8

There are so many sources of distress in the world today. Particularly in these “last days” when we are experiencing “perilous times.” We are also experiencing “Noah days” as we observe so much violence in the world today.

Just recently, in Manila a tourist bus was hijacked by an expelled policeman, killing eight people. I really hated what happened. There is so much evil in it. A man so desperate to regain his post claimed the lives of eight innocent HongKong nationals.

They were just having fun in the city. They never expect that the end of the tour in the city would be so tragic.

We are now living in more catastrophic days today than before as more extreme calamities start to devastate countries all over the world because of what men today called “climate change.”

During dry seasons, the phenomenon called “El Nino” causes temperatures to rise so high which causes “heatwave” , “heatstroke”, and start to set wildfires to spark. This year Russia experienced thousands of wildfires during the intensity of the dry season in that country.

During rainy days, phenomenon called “ La Nina” brings excessive rainfalls in a country and causes so much flooding. Thousands lost lives and millions were left homeless in Pakistan’s most recent flooding.

Indeed it has become more distressing to live in the world today than before.

What causes me to remain at peace inspite of these alarming situations ?

The Psalm above is a source of great encouragement to me. Knowing that the all powerful living God is watching over me, seven days a week and twenty-four hours a day is sufficient to keep me from all anxieties. He is protecting me from all dangers, He neither sleep nor slumber. The Lord indeed is the greatest source of refuge and security. I do not need to hire a security man to guard me all day to keep me safe. I maybe living in a place high risk in danger, but the Lord watches over me, This truth is sufficient to keep my sanity.

The Lord is great shield to all His precious children. God is the one who keeps the life of every believer in safety. He will not just die suddenly unless the Lord allow it to happen. God is sovereign over the lives of His people. A believer will not just suddenly die unless his “time” or “appointment with death” has come already or a believer will never meet an untimely death.

How can we be assured of the Lord’s protection ?

Living an upright life before God and men is the key in securing the Lord’s protection. There is a great danger in “living in sin” or “backsliding” or “falling away.” Living within the center of God’s will is a key in securing the protection of the Almighty.

Which is the safest way to live in this perilous times? Is it to live is a mansion with large unbreakable fortresses ?or to hire a 24-hour security force ?

Indeed the safest way to live our earthly life is to remain living in righteousness and holiness, within the center of God’s will.
