The Fear of the Lord is A Fountain of Life

~ Proverbs 14 ~ The Goldmine Of Spiritual Wisdom ~

The Proverbs are an affluent invigorating brilliant collection of wise pithy sayings. Solomon profoundly shares with us the endless marvelous benefits of drawing closer to the Lord and developing an ongoing relationship with him. Solomon was known as one of the greatest builders during the history of Israel. He had a flourishing magnificent dynasty. He built the Temple, many palatial buildings as well as cities. To name a few he built Megiddo, Hazor and Gezer as fortress cities. He also built Beth Horon, Baalath and Tadmor.

The Queen of Sheba heard about Solomon and his wisdom and came to see for herself if everything she heard was true. “When the Queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relation to the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions. Arriving at Jerusalem with a large caravan ~ with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones ~ she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that he had on his mind. Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for the king to explain to her. When the Queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built the food on his table, the seating of his officials the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers and the burnt offering he made at the temple of the Lord she was overwhelmed…” I Kings 10

Here again in this series we continue to take a closer look into the spiritual insight resting within these Proverbs. Solomon has given us these God inspired words of wisdom to continue to help enrich our daily lives. The Word confirms his wealth, building expertise and illustrious wisdom. We are able to read through these powerful Proverbs over and over and benefit greatly. We not only read them but look for more spiritual nuggets to enrich and improve our day to day lives.

The Proverbs are daily recommended for an ongoing personal bible study. There is one for each day of the month. Each time you will learn something new. If you are looking for answers or resolve for life and living look here. If it seems like you have no way to turn, start here. Here you can be reassured of God’s presence. Read until you can see light at the end of the tunnel. If you want to improve yourself and grow spiritually this is a great place to start. The Proverbs are powerful!

~ Proverbs 14 ~

Proverbial Lesson Highlights!

A Good Woman & A Foolish Woman

A good woman wants to build a loving, safe, comfortable, enjoyable, happy home. She wants what is best for her husband and children, if she is a mother. She wants her guests to be happy contented and at ease. If she is not yet a mother she still wants all that enter her home to ENJOY themselves. When she is a woman of God she invites the Holy Spirit in which then makes her home a place that is a nice warm cocoon away from the hustle and bustle of life.

Her home is a place where her family, friends and loved ones can have a great time. She will not let allow anyone to come in and disrupt the harmony. This includes disruptive relatives or anyone else... The foolish woman is just the opposite she is unstable, she tears her house down... “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down."

Truth & Lies!

God is a Spirit of Truth! We as believers are to be truth agents. Truth is part of the armor of the Lord. What is interesting many often believe what appears to be true. Truth is what prepares us to battle the enemy during “spiritual warfare” satan is the father of lies and he will flee from truth! Truth is important in relationships “A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.”

The WAY That Seems Right

Don't let pride stop you from changing your direction when the Lord shows you otherwise...

There is a way that seems right but it is not really from the Lord! It may appear to offer you some options but one must first really run it by the Lord. There is a broad road that leads to destruction. For some it is hard to tell the difference. We really need to stay in the Word, and allow the Lord to write His laws within our hearts! If you listen to the news media you will see it is clear that what God has to say is clearly becoming secondary for many! In many cases what God has said is wrong or it doesn’t matter.

The world says what organization do you want to help you get your rights? How interesting it is called getting your rights? By what is right measured? At one time it was measured by the Word of God? Know the Word for yourself! Take some time meditating upon the Word of God and allow His Holy Spirit to convict you of any wrongdoing. This is how you can become healed and whole! If God says it is not right, it’s not right! “There is a Way that seems right to man, but the end it leads to death.”

Wise Man & A Fool

Solomon was a wise man who asked the Lord for wisdom to rule his people. He knew that it took wisdom to make wise decision for life, living and ruling God’s people. Although Solomon did not always exercise his gift of wisdom he was no fool!

Our purpose is to know God! Jesus Christ came in the flesh, was born of the virgin Mary and lived a sinless life. He conquered sin in the flesh for us, was crucified, died and was buried! After three days in the grave He arose from the grave! When He ascended into heaven He left us a gift! We receive on the profession of our Faith, Jesus Christ as our personal Savior; His Holy Spirit! Now as we read these wise words of Solomon or any other passages of Scripture we have an internal Teacher, The Comforter, His Holy Spirit to help us better understand and apply what we are learning. You instead sincerely want to or should apply the Word of God to your own life. A fool is just the opposite he or she ignores what God has to say. “A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil. But a fool is hotheaded and reckless.” This is another Proverbs that applies “The wealth of the wise is their crown, but the folly of fools yields folly.”

Godly Fear

When we fear the Lord we reverence Him; meaning we respect Him! When you fear the Lord you want to obey Him. You want to live your life to please Him.

Think with me for a moment. If you desire to play sports you have to listen to the coach. If you want to play basketball or football the coach instructs you how to play the game. You can’t play or participate unless you do as he says. Is sports more important? Imagine how Christians could influence the world if they supported HIS WORD as much as they supported sports! Think about it which do you spend more time doing? Well why is it optional to listen to the Lord? Godly fear will help you see the importance of spending time in the Word listening! Fearing the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom. You want to grow to love the Lord more than sports or anything else! He will bring life to your soul! “The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death."

Patience is a part of the Fruit of His Spirit! Patience is what helps you to trust God and wait on Him! Patience is a sign that the Holy Spirit is working in your life. It is not the same as tolerating something. Patience is a virtue! As you wait on the Lord you meditate on His Word and continue to seek His direction! With patience comes understanding. You can wait knowing that by God’s power you are sanctified. Patience makes you want to please God!

Folly on the other hand is foolishness and recklessness you are impulsive and impatient! If you have a hot temper you can easily get out of control. You let the smallest things set you off! You will say whatever you feel before thinking. It is often hard for you to control your tongue. You will say anything to and about anyone. You need to learn how to exercise self control. It is important to ask the Lord to help you in this area. This does not mean that you cannot express yourself. You should express however it is you are feeling. You just need to learn to think before you speak and then behave responsibly! You do not have to envy. Nor destructructive. There is nothing more precious than the Peace of God! Strive to allow nothing to pull you from being centered upon HIM!

It takes more strength to discipline yourself than to just fly off the handle! You do not have to store up anger and resentment. You do not want to get "bitter but BETTER!" You can give your hurts, pain, sorrow, disappointment, situation and circumstance to the Lord and TRUST HIM! GOD is FAITHFUL! In the Lord there is HOPE for a better tomorrow. Wait on the LORD! God is able to help you control your quick temper! "God WILL take care of you!" “A patient man has great understanding, but a quick tempered man displays folly.

PROVERBS 14 Concludes by telling us: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. A king delights in a wise servant, but a shameful servant incurs wrath.”

A M Werner, I think it is wonderful decision your wife made. I think it is an admirable sacrifice to devote this time to your children in order to insure a “rock solid” foundation. It is priceless those years are their formative years. Who is better to “speak and pour ” godly principles into their lives, combined with homeschooling than she! It certainly is a job and an honorable one at that! It takes a strong woman to overlook ridicule when you know what you are doing is the right thing to do. When others see the results then they later say “Aha” it takes patience and perseverance to endure. I am sure she has acquired much Faith in trusting GOD!

This way she really gets to know your child’s temperaments, strengths and weaknesses and better focus on their strengths… This also shows a cohesiveness in your marriage! “She let them all know that our marriage was between us and no one was coming between the agreement we made with one another. Our daughters are now living evidence of her fortitude and faith. They truly do rise and call her blessed.” PRAISE GOD! That time spent together will help them weather the tempestuous storms of life when they have their own children… That is a rich invaluable “legacy” to pass down to your children! That they were loved enough that this time and sacrifice was made….This is what it is all about! Thank you for sharing, this will serve to help others and gives a great biblical perspective when one makes “wise” choices in regards to marriage & family! In His love & Blessings!

Ms.Ogans, I liked this hub a lot to say the least as Proverbs is one of my favorite books of the Bible. It provides us with a measure for our fruits and failures. I find it most applicable in every day. I now wish I had read you sooner. It is my coach A.M. Werner, that should have directed me sooner.(smile, kidding) Thanks for a view I can refer back to.

DeBorrah, I'm just catching up on hubs I have missed these past few days. This one is excellent. When my wife and I got married, we both agreed that we wanted her to stay at home and raise the children. We both understood that this might result in some financial pitfalls but we would have to through prayer and patience, stay humble and keep our needs and wants equal to that which we had. My wife has always taken great pride in homeschooling and training our daughters, it has always been a job to her. Many friends and family urged her to go to work outside the home and tried to make her feel bad or lazy for not doing like they were. Thankfully, she never heeded their advice. She let them all know that our marriage was between us and no one was coming between the agreement we made with one another. Our daughters are now living evidence of her fortitude and faith. They truly do rise and call her blessed (I'm a proverb ahead now). She worked hard to not tear down her home while many others went through marriage problems, divorces, children in trouble at school, poor grades and pregnancy, even their children having abortions. They ran the worldly way and now many of those same who mocked her, come back and tell her how blessed she really is. Sorry to go on so about my wife. We just celebrated her birthday yesterday and she deserves all the praise I can give her - her faith is truly an encouragement to me, and the wisdom she had painstakingly passed on to our girls is priceless. Peace.

Thank you Deborah! You write beautifully and it is a pleasure to read what you wrote.

As a child, I used to quote a verse from Proverbs whenever a friend asked me to write on her autograph book. That was before we had computers. Peace.
