Proverbs 1: The Goldmine of Spiritual Wisdom

Updated on August 1, 2018

Warnings Against Enticement!

~ Proverbs 1 ~ The Goldmine of Spiritual ~Wisdom ~

The Book of Proverbs is a standard of Divine Truth! These Words of wisdom are from the “Court” of King Solomon. They are powerful instructions for everyday godly living. King Solomon himself composed over 3,000 Proverbs. He was the wisest man to ever live and he left a legacy of Spiritual Wisdom. He was the builder of the first Temple in Jerusalem. He was the son of King David, the richest King to ever live. The Word of God tells us that he had seven hundred royal wives and three hundred concubines. We can all learn from Solomon’s accomplishments as well as his mistakes. He was known for his great God given wisdom that was sought after by many dignitaries throughout the world.

The Proverbs are believed to be written between the years of 1000 and 300 BC.

Proverbs is full of short pithy sayings that express timeless TRUTH. Here lies the knowledge of wisdom, instructions for life and acquiring discernment. Spiritual understanding is what awakens and matures our discernment. Proverbs was written to teach ethical and moral insight. It is here within the Proverbs you will find a Goldmine of Wisdom.

The Proverbs are for lifelong continued enjoyment, to obtain Spiritual learning. True happiness and good discipline comes to the forefront as you to begin to read a Proverbs each day. It is a treasured almanac. It has a plethora of topics on; love, marriage, youth, children, family matters, finances as well as business wisdom. It even teaches us how to relate to coworkers, friends, immorality, sex, relationships and just plain good everyday common sense. If one really desires to truly be successful it is important to keep in mind that your relationship with God, extends beyond this side of heaven. Your ever growing genuine relationship with the Lord does not ever perish. It will last through eternity.

By reading a Proverb each day you are able to inwardly matriculate its contents. The Holy Spirit is ever present to open your understanding. The Comforter is the Internal inner guide & teacher for those who believe. There is actually one Proverb for each day of the Month. Whatever today's date is start right there.

Proverbs: for the wise & godly ~ those who follow the teachings

Proverbs: for the foolish & wicked ~ those who ignore the teachings

In this wisdom series I will share with you a few tidbits of Spiritual Golden Nuggets from each Proverb. I will select and highlight wisdom excerpts from each one. I hope and pray that you will take time to thoroughly read each Proverb in its entirety on your own. Please continue on in this series of Proverbs with me. Take personal notes and see what is applicable for enhancing your own life. This will help reinforce what you are learning. Please try to keep an open mind and remember the Proverbs are to impart Wisdom which is the practical use of knowledge. Keep in mind that God does not want you to live an unhappy legalistic life. “The TRUTH WILL set you FREE!”

Proverbial Lesson Highlights

Proverbs 1

Key verse: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instructions.”

If you are looking for a prescription to be blessed look no farther. It is here you discover the fear of God. “How to give prudence to the simple...” Solomon instructed the youth to grasp wisdom at an early age. Although it is directed at all ages, he realized the significant value of learning and applying these invaluable principles early on. He encouraged this regardless of age, sex, or position. The Proverbs are meant to be integrated into our everyday lives. Choosing God’s Way helps us to live better lives when we embrace His ageless principles. The Proverbs are also augmented with wise advice for those who desire to become leaders.

God told Solomon that he could ask for whatever he wanted. Solomon could have asked for riches or anything? But he asked the Lord; “To give him a discerning heart,” See I KINGS 3 This pleased the Lord. He not only gave Him wisdom but great wealth, extravagant riches and enormous regal power as well. Solomon built a glorious magnificent Temple. A splendid impressive House of Prayer where the people of God could come and gather to Worship the Lord.

It is in this first Proverbs that Solomon stresses the importance of learning how to listen properly. No one knows it all. As long as we are on this side of Heaven we all are here to learn. Wisdom vociferously reaches out to and preaches to all of mankind, She is actually personified in this Proverbs. "Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: she crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates in the city she uttereth her words..." Proverbs 1:20.

Since God sees us as “His children” I view life as “kindergarten.” Meaning that this side of Heaven is just the beginning of life long lessons. The Lord himself tells us to humble ourselves like children. But this does not mean that we are supposed to be childish... Therefore as believers we should remain open and humbly willing to submit to His Will & His Word. We are only at the beginning stages of eternal life. We still have a long way to go. In this age of technology we readily have available access to much knowledge. But without the wisdom to apply that knowledge it simply means one may simply know a lot. Wisdom on the other hand takes knowledge a step further. The epitome of Wisdom according to Proverbs; the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom…”

If you are not a believer please keep an open mind and read on, for there is much to inspire & encourage you on the pathway of life from these wise Proverbs.

Proverbs 1 gives us a vivid illustration of wisdom crying out in the streets loudly. It also warns us to be sure, to not be enticed into doing what is wrong. It is important to remember that its God’s approval we should ultimately seek above all else.

II Timothy tells us: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman need not be ashamed and who correctly handles the Word of TRUTH. Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly…”

The Proverbs are often written in couplets that contrast, compare and are complementing. In order to receive the wisdom of God one must be open to Him. To better comprehend the intended advice you must desire to want to know “HIS WILL & HIS WAY.” We must be willing to relinquish our way as well as the path of the world. Life will present many challenges. Along His Way the Lord provides JOY as we keep our mind on Him. “You will KEEP in perfect PEACE him, whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts YOU…” Isaiah 26

If you feel that you do not need any direction from the Lord the Scriptures will not be of much value to you. It will be a lot easier for you to pick and choose what you want to hear or don’t want to hear. One must take time and “Be STILL and KNOW.”

God is always speaking we just have to get better at listening. It is important to rise above the noise of the world and listen to the still quiet powerful voice of the Lord. Just take a good look all around and see what is going on all around the world about us. It is important to set aside time to nourish and feed your mind spiritually with the Word of God. Allow His Holy Spirit to fill you and guide you to all TRUTH. Through Jesus Christ we have a precious gift; But I tell you the TRUTH: it is good that I go away. Unless I go away, The Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. When He comes He will convict the world of guilt in regards to sin and righteousness and judgment… John 16

The world really wants to quiet the voice of the Holy Spirit. To make doing what the majority feels is right to appear okay. To ensnare you into a carnal mode of living. There is much deception about us. Just put your spiritual cap on for a moment. There are consequences when one does not fear God! He is the one who gives us ALL the breath of life whether you believe it or not. Lay aside some time and get to know Him for yourself. King Solomon who was the richest and wisest man ever to live. He experienced many joys, pleasures and sorrows. It is here he shares His acquired intuitive God given wisdom. Proverbs has a wealth of practical wisdom to help us navigate through the mazes of life.

Remember reading a Proverb consistently each day will refresh your mind about; "What God has to say.” It will increase your wisdom and sharpen your discernment. It will help you to embrace God’s Way and live a more satisfying, rewarding, peaceful & joyful life. Regardless of whatever is happening around you or in the world you can still find contentment in the Lord. You cannot change anything that has happened. But you can to move forward, "Walking in the Light" If you are seeking for a progressive quality of life the Proverbs is a good place to start.

The Lord can meet you right where you are!

The Proverbs will actually help you make better life decision. I believe all of God's Word. God knows everything that has happened, is happening and will happen. This is what happens when you invite the presence of His Holy Spirit into your life. “But when He the Spirit of TRUTH comes He will guide you to ALL TRUTH. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears and will tell you what is to come. He will bring GLORY to ME by taking what is mine and bringing it to you…” JOHN 16.

We can have complete confidence in the Lord. He can keep us safe from all evil. As you grow in His grace you can be at peace knowing that everywhere you are He is there. GOD IS OMNIPRESENT! You can call upon the Lord 24/7!

Journey with me through the Proverbs. The Lord knows where each of us are in life. He will meet you right where you are and allow His marvelous grace to usher you to a place of astounding enlightening peace that only comes from Him.

Proverbs 1 concludes by telling us; “But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Nobody, The proverbs are Wonderful! I truly believe that the more we read them the Lord will open up our spiritual mind to receive the plethora of profound Truth that they contain! As we apply the principles we grow spiritually… Remember the Word of God is “ALIVE!” We are forever becoming!

Solomon faltered so much because there was not many or any who surrounded him that did not want something from him they helped to enable him. He needed someone to say “NO!” He had everything anyone could ever want! Initially he responded wisely when he made the decision about not dividing the child… It was an inner war to please the Lord over self! However I think he succumbed to his own flesh moreso because few would refuse him anything… This caused him to develop some very “bad habits!” But this was not the core of who he was… The desire to fulfill the flesh is a human weakness.

Solomon's gift of wisdom did not prevent him from making mistakes. He is an outstanding example and a motivator to help us KNOW that no matter how much or little we have we need to be forever mindful of the Lord and seek HIM above all else!

NOW we have the indwelling presence of the Lord’s Holy Spirit! The Word of God is so powerful! We today benefit thousands of years later from Solomon’s myriad of experiences! We can choose to do “our own thing” or lean and depend on the Lord to give us strength to conquer any weaknesses. It is in our weakness we can be made strong through Jesus Christ! This is why we ALL need a Savior! Thank you for sharing, In HIS Love, Grace, Peace & Blessings!

I'm finding that the more I read on wisdom and the more I know about Solomon, the more confused I am as I see he became more confused in his wisdom. I believe that he asked the Lord for wisdom and got more than he bargained for. He could judge wisely. He could write and communicate well. He could plan and probably invent and do all sorts of things, but I don't think he thought that knowing all of those things and heaping all the benefits of that stuff to oneself would cause so much fleshly input. As one invests work wisely, and reaps the benefits, one needs to put in perspective what it means to abound. Paul said he learned to be in want and learned to abound. I believe Solomon never learned that and it began to destroy him. So he wrote this by the inspriation of the Holy Ghost to show the positive side of following the Lord and of living in the fear of Him. And then he wrote Ecclesiastes to show that this same abounding, reaping and heaping to oneself can become emptiness and vanity. Actually nothing is of much value other than the Lord in this life. We interact and love because of the fact we are His children. We live and abound because we are His children. If we lose sight of Him, even for a moment that very abounding and reaping will destroy us.

What a wonderful hub DeBorrah and a great principle for living in Gods word. You know it just came to mind that a lot of the sayings in Proverbs are used as everyday sayings. Not only by (as yet) unbelievers everywhere but also by athiests. Wouldn't they all get a huge surprise to find that they were actually quoting Biblical Scripture. :)

I will read you more as i get time.

      Love and Hugs.

I love the book of Proverbs and after reading this Hub, I feel I should go back and read it some more. Solomon truly had Wisdom, but it wasn't any Wisdom. He asked God for it and God gave him Godly wisdom, which is not only beneficial to Christians but also to non-christians(to an extent).

I enjoyed reading this Hub, with my cup of coffee. :)

      Have a lovely, relaxing weekend.
