Padre Pio: Stigmata Of God - Part 15

Updated on January 31, 2009

INTERIOR SCENE - SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO CHURCH, CHRISTMAS DAY 1933 - DAYTIME

46 year-old Padre Pio is celebrating Mass to a packed church of WORSHIPPERS.

WORSHIPPER #1

(whispering to his unruly boy)

Sssh! Pay attention! One day you can tell your children that you saw the friar who wrestled the Pope. And won!

Mary Pyle accompanies the sick and weakened OLD BEPPA to the altar to receive the blessing. Old Beppa is on her knees and she holds the hands of her son.

OLD BEPPA

Padre Pio. How can we know if before God we are not sinners? We confess everything that we can remember or know, but perhaps God sees other things that we cannot recall.

46 YEAR-OLD PADRE PIO

If we put into our confession our goodwill and we have the intention to confess everything, all that we can know or remember, the mercy of God is so great that He will include and erase even what we cannot remember or know.

OLD BEPPA

Thank you, Padre Pio. God bless you, Padre Pio.

At that moment 46 year-old Padre Pio utters an anguished scream and sobs uncontrollably.

46 YEAR-OLD PADRE PIO

Mammella! My Mammella! My beautiful, sweet Mammella!

EXTERIOR SCENE - VIESTE CHURCH, MAY 1934 - DAYTIME

A MOB of over six hundred people, armed with pitchforks, knives, sickles, clubs and rocks are gathered outside the Vieste Church. MOB MEMBER #1 addresses the crowd from the top of the stairs by the front door of the church waving an axe in the air.

MOB MEMBER #1

For decades Archbishop Gagliardi and his gang of pedophile priests have mercilessly buggered our children! And for decades we have been frozen in fear of his power and said nothing while our own children are raped daily! There are many in this crowd who have been sodomized by him and his band of pervert priests. Are we finally going to act to protect our children?

(mob yells YES)

And now the news arrives that he defamed the greatest saint living on this Earth, Padre Pio! Are we going to stop him?

(mob yells YES)

Then in the name of Jesus and justice... let's go!!!

The mob surges forward, slamming open the huge doors of the church and rushing in, screaming and waving their crude weapons.

INTERIOR SCENE - VIESTE CHURCH, MAY 1934 - DAYTIME

Archbishop Pasquale Gagliardi, celebrating Mass in front of a meagre congregation, is caught by surprise by the rushing mob. He tries to shield himself behind some acolytes but to no avail. The mob pelts him with stones and bricks, charges the altar, throws his missal at him, knocks him to the floor and begins to assault him with punches, kicks and bites. The mob tears off the archbishop's vestments as the men chant obscenities. Several women bare jagged knives to castrate him. A dozen police officers rush in to rescue the Archbishop, fortunately for him, still intact.
