Possess Your Body

Updated on June 29, 2016

This morning I read 1 Thessalonians 4. It was a plea for purity. It talked about the will of God being our sanctification and how we should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of us should know how to possess our own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the gentiles who do not know God. Then verse 6 says, "That no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit."

Readers, possess your bodies. It is the temple of God where He wants to dwell, but He can't dwell in a defiled temple. He gave a command for us to abide in Him and Him in us, but this cannot be done if sexual immorality, lusts of the flesh, and deceitfulness are seated on the throne of our heart, the place where God dwells. God is usurped from His rightful position and Satan takes the throne when we participate in these carnal festivities whether physically or dwelling thought.

In addition, notice that God said he'd avenge (judge) those that take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter. We are accountable to God for how we treat others sexually. We are to NEVER take advantage of someone by enticing, luring, wishing, hoping, praying, nor seducing them into sin. You can pray someone into sin when you're pretending to have their best interest at heart and be their prayer partner, knowing you have ulterior motives. Your prayers are witchcraft because your spirit is ill intent.

We serve a Holy God. God is Holy. Yes, he's our friend and will be our Father and Mother when they forsake us and He will take care of us (Psalm 27:10); but He is Holy. God IS Holy. Therefore, when we reject walking after the Spirit and choose to walk after the flesh we reject God not man, because we've rejected Him from our temple. It affects our relationship with God, because an enemy has entered and can take us down roads we never thought we'd travel as many of us can testify.
