Proclaiming the Gospel

Updated on December 18, 2010

I recently finished a 7 week course called Proclaim.  The object of the course was to equip ourselves to join God in the Unstoppable Spread of the Gospel.  Evangelism – if you do not know what this means it is simple, a term used in Christianity meaning to spread the Gospel.  There are many people who think that if they try to share the gospel with people that they will be rejected, mocked, frowned upon, etc.  What you have to keep in mind is that someone had to share the Gospel somewhere along the way or we wouldn’t still be learning and reading the Bible.  Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek (gentile)” God doesn’t expect people to have the courage and knowledge on their own, when you know Christ as your savior the Holy Spirit resides inside you, it is the spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit will equip you with the boldness, the courage and the words to speak.  You don’t need to be a Bible scholar to spread the news of the Gospel.  We have to pray and ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit and look for opportunities throughout our day to share the news.

I think the hardest to share the Gospel with if is family itself.  I know this from experience.  I have a family who believes that either the aliens brought us here, or belief in evolution, or that psychics and mediums have power over all the spirits.  The key here is to not take things personally.  ‎"A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger" Proverbs 15:1 "And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak" Ephesians 6:19-20 "And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature"" Mark 16:15  Everything on our old nature wars against the desire to share the gospel (Donohue, J. et al)  It is our sins that stop us from sharing the word, also the devil will try to creep doubt into your mind to make you feel shameful of doing so because of the fear you receive from him not to make a move on someone to ask them if they would like to hear about Christ.  The flesh will always war against our Spirit, Don’t let it!

“But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.  But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ‘They hated Me without a cause” John 15:21-25  I think if you look at what Christ did for us to share the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven, is it really that bad to take on his teachings and share them with others?  We can’t use excuses not to do this, some examples include, “I don’t know enough, I already tried, they already know my beliefs if they were interested they would ask, etc…” We don’t have to know everything because if something is brought up that we cannot answer we can always say that we will get back to them.  Another good idea is to take a partner maybe if you feel you are not well versed find someone who is and go with them, after all Jesus never sent anyone out alone.  There are many places that we can find opportunities to talk to people or take the initiative to go out on the street and stop people and ask them what their thoughts are and where they stand with religion.  What is the worst that can happen, they say no, they walk away and ignore you?  Is that really that bad?  The point is at least you tried, maybe you were able to get a few words in, and you planted a seed right?  If we plant the seed, God can work inside them and eventually convict them and they may come back days, weeks, months, sometimes years before it will finally hit them but it will eventually.  I never wanted to hear about it, so many people tried to tell me about it for years, I didn’t care but ya know what, I eventually did.  We can take our own personal experiences in life to talk to people about how we found Christ and maybe that in itself will be an impact in some way or another.  You just have to be yourself; you don’t have to put on an act to do this.  I myself think that street evangelism would be really fun, find one or two people and go on a busy street that people walk on tell them you are doing a survey and spread the word, asking questions will make them possibly ask questions, then you can turn their questions into a question and reverse the role onto them so in all actuality they are answering their own questions reaffirming what they believe and it will hit them.  I have been told by many that I am good at talking in circles yet until tonight I had never thought of using that as a way to spread the word.  I usually do it when answering a question or talking to someone if I don’t know the answer I will reverse the question back onto them or start all over from the beginning so it comes natural to me and yes I do drive people nuts sometimes J but it is a great tactic if you think about it.  It’s not tricking people it is simply getting them to answer their own questions.

1 Corinthians 9:19 “For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more”  God wants us to know the harvest is ready, we need to take over the land that was rightfully his, we need to save our lost and unsaved friends and family from eternal damnation.  If we do not take a stand to share the news of the Gospel to them and they die not knowing Christ then how will we know if they made it into Heaven if they never knew God?  It is not our place to judge where they are going to go, but if they never knew God then how will He know them?  There is a misconception of time, think about how long eternity is…if we don’t at least try then we are left with their blood on our hands.  It is our responsibility as Christians to inform people of Christ, that if they come to know Him then their lives will change for the better, they will be able to walk the path of life, not the path of destruction.  I know that I would rather see my friends and family living in Heaven when we pass from this Earth or at the Second coming of Christ, whichever happens first.  God desires us to have a relationship with the lost, we can help them, they can see how our lives are and they might want to know how.  I am not saying Christians are perfect because that would be a lie, we sin everyday but the great thing about this is that Jesus already paid for our sins so we are forgiven, don’t you want your friends to have that same blessing?

“One of the most important things we can do in evangelism is to simply step out and begin talking to people.  We don’t have to know everything or present every thought perfectly” (Donohue, J. et al) Matthew 28:16-20 “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go thereforeand make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen” When you go out to talk to people remember the verse Titus 3:2 “to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men”

Are you willing to give it a try?  If you would like to see the class sessions they are available at the following link  If you would like more information from the site the course came from please visit   Also our instructor said if we wanted to see some street evangelism in action, just go to YouTube and type in street evangelism or Ray Comfort.  I hope in some way this has encouraged you to step out and save the lost, help them find Christ, it is our mission to help save the lost.  I know when I get to the pearly gates I want to say to God, I used everything you gave me!
