Rebecca Graf is a seasoned writer with nearly a decade of experience and degrees in accounting, history, and creative writing.

So we should learn wisdom and grow in maturity for several extremely good reasons. Now to begin the adventure through the words of wisdom.

Proverbs 1:8-9

Listen, my son, to your father's instruction

and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

They will be a garland to grace your head

and a chain to adorn your neck. (NIV)

When our parents have wisdom, there is nothing so desirable than to have that wisdom shared with us. That is where much of the problems begin – when we as parents do not have the needed wisdom for ourselves and the children that we are raising. Our children should willingly look toward us for guidance and advice – not dread waiting for us to butt in and boss us around.

Proverbs 1:10-14

My son, if sinners entice you,

do not give in to them.

If they say, "Come along with us;

let's lie in wait for someone's blood,

let's waylay some harmless soul;

let's swallow them alive, like the grave,

and whole, like those who go down to the pit;

we will get all sorts of valuable things

and fill our houses with plunder;

throw in your lot with us,

and we will share a common purse"- (NIV)

This does not have to be taken literally to be applied to your life. When you are enticed into difficult situations, they don’t always say it so bluntly as to what they plan on doing. Sometimes people are more subtle and devious on what they plan. They don’t have to plan on murder for us to apply these verses. In place of that, you can use gossip, lies, stealing, or any other action against another man. The end result of many of these actions seem to be worth it as you can possibly gain money, fame, possessions, and other desired. But at what price?

Proverbs 1:15-16

my son, do not go along with them,

do not set foot on their paths;

for their feet rush into sin,

they are swift to shed blood. (NIV)

To shed blood, to ruin a reputation, to take other’s possessions, to do anything that that in sinful. Don’t follow those that ask you to participate in ANY sinful activity. Don’t join them.

Note: What is sin? Many get confused on what this is so don’t know how to apply this to them. Sin is any action that goes against the will of God.

Proverbs 1:17-19

How useless to spread a net

in full view of all the birds!

These men lie in wait for their own blood;

they waylay only themselves!

Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;

it takes away the lives of those who get it. (NIV)

It might sound like a good plan. It might sound foolproof. But in the end, the evil ones will hurt themselves. It might not happen immediately. It might not happen tomorrow. But it is their lives that are harmed as a result. Always remember that when it sounds so good to talk about your co-worker, not tell the cashier that she gave you five dollars too much, or “forget” to pass on a message. In truth, you end up hurting yourself the worse.

      These are words we need to remember when we are oppressed in any way. God says, "Vengeance is mine. I will revenge." We need to remember that no evil goes unnoticed by our Father!

      Very good post!

      Good. Isn't it interesting "they" plan to waylay someone and end up waylaying only themselves.  They fall in the very trap they lay along the way for someone else.

      How we need wisdom today. Worship God and withdraw from the wicked.

      Thank you. ~ eddie
