Listening is the critical factor

Questions my Grand Children asked me: Can the Giraffe Hear God’s voice?

What a good question and perfectly logical. A Giraffe, having a long neck, is way up there and should hear God better. The trouble is that God’s voice is only heard by those who really listen and so it does not really matter how long your neck is but how carefully you listen.

Paul, in writing to the Romans says, “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17) So even if your neck is not as long as the Giraffe’s, the message of God about salvation is what is important.

Paul writing to Timothy says that Timothy heard the message that developed faith in him, from his Grandmother Lois and his Mother Eunice (2 Tim.1:5). So it does not matter how long your neck is, but how big your ears are. Perhaps the Elephant, with his big ears, will listen more carefully and hear God’s voice better than the Giraffe that actually has small ears.

So really it depends on you how well you listen when the message comes to you. The Psalmist, in Psalm 14:1 says “only a fool would say there is no God!” and in Psalm 19:1 “The heavens keep telling the wonders of God.”

So look up into the night sky and see the wonder of the God of creation and then listen to the wonderful story of Jesus who came to “seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). It is important to listen carefully and then live according to God’s way.

A good question with an important answer- thanks for asking it! May you hear God’s voice, even from down there!

Nobody can say that the animals don't hear the voice of a higher power.

My mother asked me such questions, as she advanced. I was happy to have no answers, but a hand to hold and love.
