Are Thoughts Physical Matter
Reality vs Sensory Reality
The True Nature of Reality
Morpheus poses the question to Neo when he is shown that what he thought was reality is nothing more than a computer simulation that when connected to the brain sends sensory stimulation to the areas of our physical senses. This simulation was indistinguishable to humans from reality because of the trick played on our brains through sensory input. By doing this the machines control man and his reality and keep him complacent so they can use our bodies for power. But here we explore the true nature of reality.
So what is real? Is what you see, taste, smell, hear, and touch real? Morpheus says it, these are mental interpretations of electrical impulses that are translated by the brain to survive within our physical world. But the truth is this, the world we see around us is not what we are perceiving with our physical senses. Would it shock you to learn that at the smallest level of our physical universe, the quantum level of reality that all matter is nothing more than a phased non-actualized wave potentials but never in an actual physical state of reality as we experience it.
To know what I am talking about below I give you a quick lesson in two parts of quantum physics with the help of Dr. Quantum a cartoon character created for the films (What The Bleep Do We Know?). From wave potential and then wave collapse to non-locality, below we explore the true nature of reality and how we are all connected by something called the zero point vacuum that exists between quantum wave functions and matter.
Dr. Quantum and the Double Slit Experiment
Particles and Waves
The act of observation of electrons disturbs the electrons position, and attempt to measure position or momentum disturbs the particle and information is lost in uncertainty hence the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics, if you think of a particle as being in wave form you can say it is waving and know it is there, but if you think of the particle as a small ball of matter it collapses the wave form and becomes a small solid particle of orbiting electrons and a central mass nucleus called an atom. Matter is both waves of potential energy non-physical and small solid balls we call particles.
Double Slit Experiment:
When electrons are fired through a single slit in a plate and observed they create a single line pattern on the wall behind the plate just like firing large bits of matter through a slit in a plate, but when a single slit is hit with a wave there is a flat line with the most intensity in the middle of the pattern with a fall off towards the edge. When two slits are placed into the plate and waves are passing through the plates there is an interference pattern that forms on the wall where the waves are crossing one another’s path.
Quantum uncertainty – When electrons are fired through a double slit they create a wave pattern on the back wall. Even if the electrons are fired through the slits one at a time they still create a wave pattern, not only do they act like a wave of potential but they act like single parts of matter as well! So the particles are both passing through slits and not at all and they pass through both slits and only through one, all at the same time…
Observational wave collapse – When scientists placed measuring devices to watch this phenomenon the electrons again behaved just like small bits of matter creating the two slit pattern on the back wall, even when they only used measuring devices to observe the phenomenon the pattern still behaved like matter and not waves. The mere act of measuring and observing the particles caused the potential wave to collapse.
Dr. Quantum Entanglement
Action at a Distance Non-Locality or Quantum Entanglement
In quantum mechanics there is a phenomena called entanglement or action at a distance where two particles that are paired together in either a antiparticle pro-particle pair where the particles are paired together with opposite spins of up or down or in pairs that are entangled with the same properties in the fact that their first pairing has now become entangled with another particle, this is called quantum teleportation... I will explain...
Alice (particle A) has a packet of information for Bob (Particle B) and lets assume that the two of them are in love so they both share those base feelings (basic unit of information C) but they are separated by lets say the length of the known universe... some 14 billion light years apart. Now we have Alice A and Bob B both in love C and Alice wants Bob to know she is thinking about him, so Alice couples her basic unit of information the love C and knows that at some point Bob will be thinking the same thing, hence Alice is now in a state of A and C, so now Bob will at that very moment pick up the information of C from Alice and couple with the state of C and receive the information that she is thinking about him... what happens is that once Alice uses this process and takes on the state of A and C she and the information are destroyed and Bob is now in a state of B and C... the properties of Alice and C the information are now exactly the same for Bob.
Thought, The Mind, and the Quantum Connection
Thoughts and the Quantum Connection
So I'm sure you are wondering, what the heck has any of this to do with consciousness and thought? This is all just quantum mechanics stuff... nerds in coats or college professors worry about this kind of slag not you right? Well here is where it gets really interesting...
Perception - The world we perceive around us is all that we know because of what our senses (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and touch) tell us it is because of the way we experience and perceive it. We rely on our senses and our brains to tell us what it is we are experiencing. But this is only an interpretation of what the true nature of what we are sensing really is. We know that once a particle in wave form is measured and observed it behaves the way we expect it to, well the same goes for our reality... it is like the classic question (if a tree falls in the forest, does it really make a sound if there is no one there to hear it?) well the real mind bender is this, is there even a tree or a forest if there is no consciousness around to experience it? So if there was no consciousness in the universe at all would it even exist at all in the way we perceive it or would it all just be a jostling place of potentials but never realized actualization. In a sense the world as we know it would not be here without consciousness.
So thought, what else besides perception has to do with the quantum connection? Well we talk about entanglement. How does entanglement have anything to do with the quantum world and thoughts?
Thoughts, though they exist within the physical construct of our mind as we would think in a non material or non physical form, they are actual and even physical in nature. Thoughts are caused by neural electrical pulses from within the brain, they are the programs running on the circuits of our chemical electrical computers we call the brain. When you have a thought that thought is like a domino actuator in the sense that there are processes that must take place within the mind for that thought to come to fruition... from the point of sensual perception, experiential recognition, memory and emotional response, cognition, and then actualization and from that point to physical action at the conscious level of physical involvement the entire process takes nanoseconds to take place. Thoughts are a quantum event in their very nature. Through the process of entanglement all matter is constantly sharing information at speeds over a billion times the speed of light within the quantum zero point vacuum. Since the very matter that makes up you and your thoughts is entangled it would make sense that even non local events, separated by distance and time would be accessible to a conscious entity that could tune into that information... this is the basis for paranormal type events such as ESP and Remote Viewing. It even explains how animals may have certain genetic but also extra-sensory information within their very make up and instincts. So at the smallest levels of our reality we are all connected and we are all sharing information all the time.
In a sense the entire universe is a conscious thing, since information is flowing through the universe much like information is shared within the brain through axons and neurons the universe is acting like a quantum computer itself, using zero point fluctuations and entanglements to create and share information at amazingly unimaginable speeds. We are like little self aware thoughts within a much larger mind than our own.
Weird stuff huh?
What's It To Do With Me?
So now you are asking yourself, well that is all fine and dandy, but what's it got to do with life as I know it? Well since your thoughts are entangled with the very nature of our reality, and we know that your thoughts are pretty much an open channel to the rest of the world... imagine how your thoughts effect those around you. How do your own thoughts about yourself effect who you are? Do you focus on negativity or are you a successful person and always happy? Are you productive? Are you a giving person and a caring person? Now that you have a heads up on how your thoughts may have an actual physical nature, are you still going to get angry enough to think about wishing harm on someone? Thoughts are much more powerful than we may think they are, they are as tangible as you and I and they do MATTER... knowing that, we should THINK before we THINK. This is called being mindful, be mindful of your experience, try to keep your negative thinking down to a minimum, this amazingly enough actually leads to a healthier happier life because the negative nature of our emotional memories that tend to rule our thoughts are put down and controlled and the physical negative nature of the thoughts we feed ourselves are then not causing us harm. Remember you can't control what others think, but you can control what you think!
