Reason #3 to Read the Bible
The Develop as a Christian!
If you have ever been part of a good bible study, you know that there is a lot to learn from the word of God. Commonly read topics include addiction, charity, finances, marriage, healing, and many more. Hopefully, these studies led you to read the Bible and, through discussion and teaching, exposed the truth and wisdom contained in its pages. What’s great about the Bible is that it leads you to these central truths:
- Jesus is the answer to every mystery in life
- God has a plan for you that is full of life
- the Holy Spirit has been sent to you to empower you for God’s plans
What is the Word?
When I think back and reflect on all the amazing lessons and things that I have learned as a result of reading the Bible, I am astonished that anyone survives without it! I don’t mean that tritely, but if you have ever had an experience that changed you from the inside out, you know what I mean. I get to experience that life changing goodness every time I open His word. You see, despite what you may hear, Christianity isn’t a life based on a list of Do’s and Don’ts. it isn’t religion. Christianity is an eternal supernatural life that starts the moment you believe and continues to get better the more you press in.
Jesus likened the word of God to a seed (Luke 8:11), when you hear the word of God for the first time, that seed gets planted deep down inside you. In order to grow, the seed needs nourishment, and the bible can provide that! That’s how we press in, by spending time in the word with God.
Now, Christianity isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but the word teaches us how to overcome and frame our experiences within an eternal perspective. Have a look at the verses below and let them encourage your spirit.
Romans 5:3-5
“And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
2 Corinthians 9:8
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed”
Isaiah 26:3
“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace,
Because he trusts in You.”
