Relevance of God in Modern Life - the Expert

Updated on July 25, 2019

True Christian Principles are not the property of a faith, but the heritage of ALL true religion, even if not of apparent Christian origin.

What is an expert? Experts present a sense of confidence to those who look to them to have a knowledge of and applicable wisdom regarding a subject in the area of their specialty--a person who has comprehensive special skill or knowledge in a specific area such as a thoracic surgeon or a plastic surgeon. Teachers are experts in their fields of instruction. Engineers are experts in their fields of study. Depending on what the need is, experts are sought to fill it, if possible; and extremely knowledgeable people sought in the needed field without a specialist available.

Confidence that what the subject of any needed specialty will receive competent attention and resolution moves society from plumbing in residences to the fuel for spacecraft. Experts give, if nothing more than an illusion of it, the idea of a guarantee, a deflection of worry. Trust is what experts represent to the world, professionalism.

Flat Earth

Occasionally, what experts present to the public at large may be rejected as insanity or sacrilege, such as a flat world when experts have proven the world is a spherical shape. Ancient people the world over believed in the flat world. Evidence shows that many people decided to use observation and Scripture to support the idea of a flat or disc-shaped world.

Common sense in these instances to demonstrate the flatness of Earth was not appropriately applied. Holding a sphere, such as a piece of fruit, orange, in a dish placing water around that sphere resulted in the water surrounding the bottom of the fruit in the dish; however, the dish which was flat held the water! Of course, the Earth is flat because otherwise there would be no water able to stand in pools. The water would slip off. And like a flat surface, if the edge is reached, off would fall any object.

Entertainment media suggest the flat world belief was the predominant view. It, however, was the view of those who had quills to write and records to propagate. Several people, expert sailors, proved the world was spherical by sailing the breath of Earth without falling off. For most of humanity, Earth's shape is no longer a question and is considered common knowledge to be spherical. Astronauts and artificial satellites have presented evidence of Earth's shape. Most people believe the experts.

Some people believe Earth is flat regardless of what the experts provide as proof. Some contest the authenticity of space travel or landing on the moon. Always, history seems to suggest, there are people who will not believe or trust experts.

Experts come in many forms. There are flat-earth experts who provide evidence that the world is flat. Specialist exists who decry space travel and the moon landing using evidences to support their claims.

There is a way to find true experts, but it takes work and study.

This is where the Relevance of God comes in.

Many experts shout the existence of God or the absence of such a being as God. Some such experts claim that this entity labeled as God is one of many such entities who govern the universe but has no specific relationship with humanity and vice versa. Others say such a being does not exist because an evolutionary process occurred to create life, giving it no higher purpose or meaning than face value and vice versa.

Still, others claim that a benevolent being (or something) exists but no one can prove it because there is no scientific method in existence to do so.

A relative few claim that God can hear and answer requests of petitioners directly, making them into experts on the actuality of a divine being. Shamans or prophets have done so in every culture of recorded human history.

Knowing the source of information including discernment that extracting that information is possible for personal gain is a victory in understanding if it is true.

There are experts in the existence of diety. What humanity needs to discover is how to figure out which ones to listen to, the ones who promote self-discovery.

Religion is a Key

Religion brings with it the curse of cultish behavior and the blessing of self-awareness. Whenever there exists a philosophy attempting to explain the meaning of life also exists the possibility of wicked religion.

A Charismatic leader can lead faithful followers down paths of darkness or light. Discerning what is dark or light becomes the task of each person. How?

In the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ an ancient prophet instructs:

For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.

And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged.

Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ. Moroni 7:16-19

Things that promote doing good and believing in Christ is the light by which humanity should judge. In other words, the teachings of Jesus Christ to love each person is a light by which all may judge as good and light. All people may not accept Christ as the Savior of humanity, but following His teaching to love others with equal love as one's self is a step in the right direction. Mutual respect, love, consideration, care, and worth are all qualities that religion should teach about how people treat each other.

Next, religion teaches how to approach God. All religions are equal under civil law. That does not mean that all religions connect their adherents to God in the best ways. Obviously, Christianity is the faith view of this article. Within that faith view, being able to speak to God directly without a priest or preacher further diminishes the inclusivity.

Speaking directly to God through prayer is the ultimate way to discover the truth. Approaching Him in prayer and having an expectation to receive communication in like manner empowers the faithful to get correct information.

God ultimately is the Expert to seek information about the meaning of life.

Yielding to God is not submitting to mindless obedience. It is submitting to someone who knows more about the subject, an expert.

Even if we do agree to yield to Him, God does not take away our agency. We are still the final decision in every act. God may speak, but we choose whether we will act.

The biggest difference between a mortal parent and God is that mortals will revert to ungodly measures to get their children to obey—such as force. Parents are not perfect and do not always want the natural consequences of actions to prevail. God always uses persuasion and is willing to let us learn from our mistakes each and every time. I do not want to take the comparison to extremes. Any good parent will prevent his or her child from harming him or herself.

God does not force anyone to do His will. He will encourage and actively persuade, but the choice is always yours. What better person to yield to than one who will never take advantage of our loyalty to Him?

We decide what we will do, and God decides how to bless us for it. If we obey for blessings, that is fine, If we obey out of love, that is fine. We must start somewhere to start trusting God. If we do so just to see if it will work, seeking for a sign, that is better than seek not at all. If our intentions are genuine, God will reward our effort and help us understand the reward. Our prayers God will hear if we yield to and accept his divine leadership.

Signs of True Experts

Givens exist about God that make it evident who are the true experts in knowledge in relation to understanding His divine nature. In Christianity according to the New Testament teachings and Jesus of Nazareth, who Himself is an extolled expert, God is approachable.

In many ancient and some modern faiths, the only persons who can approach a diety are the ministers representing said diety. The shamans, priests, or priestesses interpret what the god thinks. Seers reveal what the god plans and all are in awe of the oracles of divinity. Standing at the head of great faiths, men and women proclaim what life means based on what a god tells them, trickling down the blessing of divine approval or displeasure upon the faithful.

Jesus, however, taught that there is a God and that each person can approach Him without a priest to stand between them. Teaching the words to say, calling God Father in Heaven, this expert instructs anyone who would hear that He is the way to the Father. In other words, do what Jesus did and God will reveal Himself individually to him or her as He did to Jesus.

What better way to test if God is real than to follow the steps provided by an expert in divinity like Jesus Christ, a divine expert Himself?

True experts provide the information and allow the listeners to discover the truth of what he or she taught them by following the process.

Experts do not use exceptional situations to measure normal circumstances. Moses saw a burning bush and heard a voice from heaven speaking to him. God may not reveal Himself in that manner to most people. It is not normal. What is normal is spoken of in the New Testament in the book of Galatians:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law 1

When the Spirit of God reveals the truth to seekers what occurs inside their souls are love, joy, peace, etc... A burning bush might occur; it is true. More likely will the nine manifestations listed will occur. Experts teach what is most likely to occur and what exceptions have occurred and will NEVER teach that something Will NOT occur unless God directly said such a thing would not occur.

Experts, for example, do not teach that an asteroid will avoid hitting Earth and destroying all life. They teach that such an occurrence may not happen for thousands of years because in truth they do not know. Experts work with facts and probabilities.

Experts in divinity will not fear to teach a person everything about God and allow that person to form an independent relationship with divinity. If and when a misunderstanding arises, the expert will allow the learner to ask questions and even believe false notions as he or she searches for clarity about divinity.

Jesus taught in parables so that only those who could perceive the truth initially would be held accountable for pursuing it. Once the proper environment for those with lesser perceptions was established did the experts who followed Jesus teach things in a plain manner.

Ultimately, God is the expert about existence and what eternity means. Each person has a direct line to communicate with Him if he or she trusts in the process as revealed by the experts such as Moses and Jesus.

Eric, that is good to know. I am so glad that we can relate to each other in our walk with God regarding prayer. I have been going through a challenging trial a present. Prayer is my saving grace right now. I bare do any writing because of it. I am hoping to weather this storm for as long as it rages with faith, hope, and prayer.

I liked the rest of your comment below. Our earlier walk on the way to praying unceasingly are somewhat similar.

Eric, I catch your drift. I was a bit confused when I read the comment based on the things that I read of yours. I figured there was something I missed in the translation. See, this is how the mind of man works. I am a good example of understanding without comprehending in this last comment of yours.

I might need to modify this article. So many people chose to believe in other things than God. Apart from God, there is no me since He created all things. Thanks for clarifying. I respect your opinion, views, and beliefs. I am glad to know that I misunderstood your words. That misunderstanding threw me for a loop because the fruit of your writings did not match what I concluded. I apologize if my ignorance painted you any way than what you have shown to be the truth.

Bill, I am not an expert on God either. I hope the article doesn't imply that. If it does I need to change the title. I would say that I know things about His nature. I hope one day to be as familiar with Him as I am with any child to his father. I don't want to be a prophet, per se. Thanks for commenting and reading.

Rodric, I think you misinterpreted my meaning. Relevance suggests to me one thing to another. I am filled so relevance makes no sense. The Trinity is in me and not apart, to be compared or relevant.

No way am I an expert on God. I'm barely an expert on myself. I leave the metaphysical to others to contemplate. I live a life of love and hope that's enough.

      Blessings always my friend.

No Rodric I was expressing "relevant" as part of my faith. Faith in God is so overwhelming in my life I cannot even grasp God being "relevant". God and Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are in me and part of me every millisecond of every second. I would not call that relevant I would call it inseparable from me - relevant to me means separate yet important.

Eric, thanks for reading and commenting. I have no idea what I would do without God in my life. You say He does not fit into your faith. I can respect that. I, however, would not see the point in living without Him there to inspire me to reach for something more. Life is bleak, my life anyway, without God and His influence and love.

As a young teen, I felt it was unfair for me to pray over my studies because I had an advantage with God helping me remember things. I also thought it was weakness at one point to rely on God because I could not hack it life without a crutch, be it God or family or whathave you.

Now that I am middle-aged and realize that I am not as powerful as I was led to believe with my family and friends being taken from me one by one and my health betraying me, I find myself leaning more on God than ever. He helps me feel better about myself despite failures in life. That there is a greater purpose in existence than just living and dying keeps me moving along in life.

I believe in the goodness of people because of our connection to God as His children; otherwise, I think I would have lost hope in humanity by now. God is definitely relevant in my life because I would not be able to cope without Him.

Pamela, thanks for reading and your estimation of its value. I congratulate your relationship with God and the benefits you have enjoyed because of it. I too have enjoyed the benefits of my divine relationship with God for almost thirty years now. Having a listening ear at all time helps in so many ways. Also, knowing that if I need help or comfort when no one else can provide it that God will provide help and/or comfort makes life easier to endure during the hard times.

Very good article, Rodric. I trust God, and my life has been much better since I made that decision many years ago. I like the parables from Jesus.

Good job Rodric, I like it.

I cannot say that God is relevant to me. For me it just does not fit into my faith.
