Road Rage and Ruling Your Spirit

Updated on November 2, 2013

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32

Ruling your spirit, a ruler rules and governs. How can we rule our spirit? Basically just from practicing slow to anger. Slow down, some professionals say count to ten. Have you ever had an episode of road rage? What this can happen to Christians? We have to remember that we are not superhuman. Although, God’s power can help us, this one time………..I had a bad episode of road rage it could have ended way worse than it did. This is not part of my defense but more of a background, I was raised in a house with my uncles who fought the police.. One day I will right a biography but my point is I witnessed this type of violence and attitude as a child and no matter how much I pray it comes out sometimes. Also to top it all off, I have bad PMS, LOL. These are not excuses because it is never right. I’m just saying that if you were raised in a Christian calm home maybe this wouldn’t happen I am not sure. I was trying to cross an intersection of traffic with a long box truck. Usually with a small car you would go in the middle and then go across the other traffic. Behind me this car beeped for me to go. I flipped out! I got out of my truck and went and yelled at this guy, “What’s your problem? He said you could go in the middle; I said “oh and block the traffic?” You’re a jerk. I got back into my vehicle and left and of course drove off all fast. I was so mad. Would if this guy had a gun? After all, I do live in a city where we have the highest murder per capita. It would have been bad, real bad. For hours I was angry it took me forever to calm down. At this point you are probably thinking that I need to be medicated. I went on with it all and envisioned me opening his car door and trying to pull him out of his car and pounding him in the face. Adrenaline and anger gives me super strength. I like to share real life stories even though it may somewhat damage my reputation. Only by God’s grace am I sitting here writing devotional type of books.

Dear God, please help us rule our spirits. In Jesus Name, Amen.
