By Sharon Stajda,
Have you had the pleasure of meeting the legendary haunted doll Robert, that lives in a museum i Key West Florida?
It's not that unusual for a young child to have an imaginary friend or two. Often times, we as parents think it cute? A mischievous little friend afoot to take the blame for some minor wrongdoing. But what happens when the child begins to be torment by the imaginary friend? To the point that the child cannot sleep the night through without the friend awaking them to play? What happens when the play becomes ruff, and frightening to the child?
So the story goes ...
The year 1896. It was well known the Otto's mistreated there servants, and were not the kindest of people one would want to associate with. One servant, that aided in the care of the couples son, Robert Eugene (Gene) was said to be versed in the ways of voodoo. She for one reason or the other became very displeased with the Otto family, and decided to do something about it! As the story goes the servant gave Gene a doll. A doll she had made herself. The doll standing three feet tall, and stuffed with straw. With life like features, that were at first very endearing to Gene. He decided to name the doll "Robert," after himself. The doll was a constant companion to Gene. Gene could be heard frequently talking to the doll. This in itself might not have been so bad? The Otto's were puzzled to hear the boy answering himself, in an entirely different voice than his own?
Robert Did It ! He was moved to the attic
Strange things began to occur in the Otto household. Neighbors claimed to see Robert move about from window to window, when the family were not at home. The citizens of Key West heard about Robert, and his evil doings. Many people walking by the home reported that the doll watched from the turret room, and mocked them as they passed... School children feared walking by the Otto home, in fear of Robert's mean glare. Gene began to blame Robert for mishaps that would occur. The Otto's themselves claimed to hear the doll giggle, and swear they caught glimpses of the doll running about the house. Gene had frequent nightmares and scream out in the night, when his parents would enter the room, they would find furniture overturned, their child in a fright, and Robert at the foot of the bed, with his glaring gaze! "Robert Did It."... The doll was eventually put up into the attic. Where he resided for many years.
After many years Robert took his place in the turret room... But he was soon returned to the attic
When Gene's parents died, and the Otto home came to Gene. Robert was rediscovered and welcomed back into the lower rooms of the home. Robert's influence could be quickly felt again. Well, Gene's wife found Robert unsettling. One day she decided she had enough of Robert's glare...and returned him to his attic sanctuary. Gene was displeased, and demanding that Robert needed a room of his own where he could see out of the window. He put Robert in the turret room, by a window. It wasn't long after that Gene's sanity was questioned?Gene, began to visit the turret room more frequently, he claimed he would find Robert rocking in his chair by the turret room window, displeased with his accommodations. Finally Gene himself had enough! Robert was returned to the attic...Robert went on to wreak havoc in the attic. Visitors that entered the house could hear Robert walking back and forth in the attic, and giggling profusely. Guests no longer wanted to visit the Otto home.Gene Otto decided Robert must return to the attic.
He waited patiently
Robert waited patiently up in the attic to be discovered, once again. Eventually new owners arrived, and Robert was quick to be discovered by their 10 year old daughter. It was not long before Robert unleashed his displeasure on the child... The little girl claiming that the doll tortured her, and made her life a living hell. Even after more than thirty years later, she steadfastly claims that "the doll was alive and wanted to kill her."

Robert The Haunted Doll
Mother And Daughter's Encounter With Robert ....
How it all started ... It began with a ghost tour a mother, and daughter decide to take. The tour was to the Martello Museum in Key West Florida. This is the museum that is home to"Robert The Haunted Doll." The story in the words of the woman that lived it follows...
"The tour started with the narrator taking the group around to the various exhibits, we looking, and listening to the narrator at the museum, near Robert's Case, My daughter took a photo of Robert, and was generally joking around at the time she took the photo. Stating,"Robert can you smile"... All of a sudden I felt this distinct heat sensation on my right arm. So much so that it made me look around to see if I could determine where this heat was being generated from? I could not find any logical source where the heat might have been coming from. We returned to the hotel, and nothing further happened that evening. The following day my daughter and I actually decided to go back to the museum. We wanted to return in broad daylight to see if we could come up with some form of explanation for what had occurred the night before. We came and went without any further paranormal event.
That evening we took a flight home, and landed around 10:30 p.m. The minute we got off the airplane odd things began to happen. We went to pick up our vehicle where we had parked it. However, for some reason we couldn't find the car ! After almost 3 hours of frantically searching we located the car. We finally arrived home, upon entering the house we both noticed it was unbearably cold. I thought "oh no I must have turned the thermostat down instead of up before we left for our trip? So I proceeded to check the thermostat, expecting the worst. As I proceeded into the area where the thermostat was, I heard music coming from my daughters bathroom? Instead of checking out the thermostat, I headed for the bathroom. Fully intending to find my daughter had carelessly left the radio on. I was shocked as I entered the bathroom, the music was playing yet I found the radio was not even plugged in. I called out to my daughter to ask if she could hear the music? She a firmed she also heard music.. We were both shocked that the radio was unplugged, yet able to give off music. We were both grappling for answers. We decide quickly to check the air conditioning closet to see why it was so cold in the house. The air conditioning closet was next to the bathroom. The door closed behind us as we entered the closet. The thermostat was set at 74, just as I believed I had set it prior to leaving for the trip. Yet the house felt as if it were below zero.
I grabbed the doorknob and was surprised it would not turn, as if it were being held from the other side of the door. I take a deep breath, and I try again, telling myself "that did not just happen!" It happened again and my daughter realized what was going on, and she tried the doorknob. We struggled with the doorknob for a few minutes, it would not turn at all. All of a sudden we heard banging from the other side of the door, it shock the door! All of a sudden the doorknob shook, and when tried again it opened.
I quickly decide we should leave the house, and go to my mom's house in the next town, even though by now It was nearly 2 a.m in the morning. We pick up a few items that would be needed for our overnight stay, and started towards the front door only to hear odd sounds coming from the other side of the front door? It sounded as if the door was being hit by thousand of buzzing bugs. I took a deep breath, and shouted out "in the name of God leave us alone!
The terrible bombardment sound stopped dead. My daughter screamed "Mom, you made them go away." More afraid of what was beyond our door than on this side of it. I decided to sit down to think about what had just happened? Thinking, we had stopped whatever was happening in the house. As I sat there, I heard my daughter turned on the television set in the living room. I got up and to the living room, looking at the TV I noticed a strange green line right in the middle of the screen. Great, now it appears our TV is not working. While my daughter tried to fix the TV, I notice some form of reflection on the screen? I thought it my daughters reflection at first. As I moved in to have a closer look, I clearly saw the smiling leering face of that odd, spooky doll, Robert.
I yelled out for God To Help rid our home of this doll, and his face faded from the TV screen. We have not had any other paranormal events in the home. It's been a couple of years since this happened. I would warn anyone that wants to meet Robert be polite, don't make sport of him in any way or you might make him mad, and he just might follow you home.

Honeymooners Encounter With Robert The Doll. Be careful what you say to Robert The Doll, he might just take you up on your invitation.
All Stories Start At The Martello Museums - The Honeymooners
My story starts with my visit to the Martello Museum. My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Key West, and thought it would be fun to take a haunted tour. One of the stops was the Martello Museum. When we first saw Robert the doll, he just looked like an old worn out doll that sat in an enclosed exhibit. My husband and I stood and looked at Robert for a few minutes, we both had a bit of a laugh about the doll. We agreed that Robert the doll did not appear so menacing. When we turned to leave, my husband turned and said, "Hey Robert want to see our honeymoon suite?"
That night we turned in pretty late, I was sound asleep, and all of a sudden I was awaken by what sounded like a person laughing in our room. I laid there awake for a while thinking I must have been dreaming. I shortly got up and got a drink of water, and returned to bed, I could not get back to sleep. Then I heard what sounded like footsteps run across the floor. I woke my husband, and it was not long before we heard the footsteps again, this time the footsteps were accompanied by a shrill laugh!
To make a long story short. We got little sleep that night. Were these noises made by Robert the haunted doll? We can't prove it, but let's just say you couldn't convince my husband or me that the noises were not made by Robert the doll. I think the doll is possesses, and can defiantly follow one home.

"Only The Beginning"
I have always been fascinated with ghost, spirits, and ghost hunters. However, I have never had a paranormal experience or had any type of ghostly encounter - That's until now. I have always been somewhat skeptical of the paranormal, and pretty much didn't' believe in ghost stories. But now, I can say I have actually had a firsthand paranormal experience. I think?
My wife, and I visited Key West Florida the week of October 10h, 2011. Our visit consisted of fun in the sun, throwing a few back, and visiting museums.
My paranormal experience started with a visit to he Martellto Museum. The Martellto Museum is a Museum that is the home of a reportedly haunted doll by he name of "Robert". The visit to the Museum stared by our buying tickets, and then listening to the tour guide tell us about "Robert the haunted doll." I was very skeptical, and pretty much thinking "yeah right" a haunted doll... The guide went on to tell us that Robert always wanted his visitors to first ask if they could take a photo of him, and he liked to hear "please, and thank you". Basically he wanted to be treated with respect. The tour guide warned, " be nice to the doll, and he may be nice to you". I am as a rule a good sport, so I played the game. All seemed to go off without a hitch. We left he Museum to go on do other planed activities.
During he course of the day, my wife, and I noticed a local trolley tour, called "Ghosts and Gravestones". This tour consisted of visits to many haunted house's around he island. My wife, and I decided to book an 8:00 PM tour for he next night. Well, little did we know one of the stops on the tour would be the Martellto Museum, Robert the doll's home. The guide on the trolley tour told us the story of Robert, and informed all that we would be stopping at the museum to get a firsthand look a Robert the doll, at night, while the museum was closed. When we departed the trolley to go into the museum, the guide passed out a few EMF detectors, and told us to watch for activity spikes. I was fortunate enough to be one of the recipients of one of the detectors. We again were warned not to aggravate "Robert". However, I not being of sound mind, (LOL) wanted to aggravate Robert... I just wanted to try to provoke he doll, and perhaps get something to happen.
Well... this is the point where strange things started to happen. There were three other people besides myself with EMF detectors, and we were all standing close together surrounding the Plexiglas case that housed Robert the doll. I stared verbally provoking Robert, saying things like -, "you are not so bad, why don't you show us what you got". " Show us that you are the real thing ! At that time my meter, and only my meters lights turned green and yellow, and spiked at the red lights, and the lights stayed that way for at least 10 seconds. I being a skeptic ,wrote it off as a setup of some kind ? Thinking that the museum staff had planted something magnetic to trigger the meters. Some gadget they could flip on and off, just to make the whole experience spooky. However, the night was young.
My Droid, which had been set to vibrate as the tour guide had requested, to insure not to disturb the tour. All of a sudden my Droid started playing music. I thought at first it was my ringtone? I soon realized that it was a song that I had on my MP3 player that was playing. I quickly muffled my phone, and ran out to the courtyard to silence my it. I pressed the pause button, but got no results by doing so. I could not get it to stop playing? My phone then started to really freak out by going back and forth between he MP3 player mode to the phone menu. I finally got it to stop by powering down the phone. The tour guide came up to me and said "Boy...you really pissed him off!". Well, needless to say, the bus was buzzing with conversation of what happened at the museum all he way back to the drop off point. My friends, my wife and I jumped on our mopeds , and headed back to our hotel, only to hear the exact song playing in the hotel lobby !!! Coincidence, it sure did not feel like a coincidence???
When I got home, I stared trying to disprove what had happened, trying to figure why and how this song started to play all on its own. The song should by all rights not started up while my phone was in its case, and programmed to vibrate ?. As I investigated, the Droid, I found that one would have actually had to go through a 5 step process to get to the song in question. Oh by the way - the song was titled "Beginning" by the group "Chicago".
"Only the beginning of what I want to feel forever.
Only the beginning. Only just the start.
I've got to get you into my life.
Got to get you next to me.
Only the beginning. Only just the start." .
