If a slave kills his or her master, all of the master’s slaves will be crucified as punishment. This includes women and children!
In 1 Cor. 1: 18–23, the doctrine of salvation is given a wonderful title: Christ is the wisdom and power of God. Yet, if I had made this the title of this article, would you have stopped at the storefront and gazed?
Well, just so you are a little more informed before we move along, we get our term excruciating, from the word Crucify which literally means “out of crucifying”. No thanks! I don’t want to experience that kind of “excruciating”. Yet, the irony of it all is that we’re the ones that killed the Master by crucifixion! Good reason now says that we are the condemned to the cross, according to 1st Century Rome. But the great wisdom of God used this death sentence to pay that same penalty you were already condemned too. The cross and its message is Gods great wisdom in saving men and women, though the simplicity of it is crazy in the eyes of man. Certainly, it must take more to be approved of God? It must stand to reason that the Most Holy would require us to do something: penance, speak in tongues, stop drinking, put money in the plate, buy a pew for the church, get baptized, take communion, put ash on our forehead on Ash Wednesday, or make a holy pilgrimage to an holy site once in your lifetime. He gave so much for me, that my human mind says that “I must give something in return, I must buy it back.” Yet, while we were still sinners… “Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God”. And the truth is, we want to buy it and secure it ourselves so that we can continue to live the life we choose, for anything I buy is secure, I own it! But suddenly, I find it is in nothing that I can give or pay, that I would purchase eternal life. What can you possibly pay for life eternal! Ponder that a while…
The Cross caused the injuries that shed the blood that saves the soul. Yet, it was not the Cross that really caused those injuries; it was the heart of wicked man that fulfilled the will of God, to save the very ones who murdered, if they would accept its foolishness. Yes, to you it is foolish, stupid, insane.
Jesus was not stoned, he was not beheaded. He was not stretched at the racks, he was not burned at the stake. For not a bone was to be broken according to the scriptures, a prophecy that was fulfilled in order that man may see the truth of it, but they did not. It was foretold in the Old, but rejected by men in the New. Death by hanging on a cross was the most despised and detestable way to be executed in Rome. It was completely detestable. How could something so detestable be salvation for us? Why the Cross? Why not beheading? Jesus chose to obey the Father in His choice and manner of death, and chose to endure it. Man is so detestable in their sin that it took the most detestable execution to pay the debt. And let’s face it, you will never have enough of this worlds goods to pay back that debt.
Isaiah 64:6 says “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness’s are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” This is the reason for all the world’s problems, we are all unclean. We are all unrighteous. We are all filthy. Selfish. Our life is like a leaf that quickly falls to the ground and drys up until we are taken away to the pile and burned.
The preceding can be summed up in one phrase; we are all sinners. Yet, you don’t define sin in the sense that you are directly involved in it’s actions. To you, sin is for the religious, so you define it in the way Wikipedia chooses to, in the worlds view as: “In a religious context, sin is an act of transgression against divine law. In Islamic ethics, Muslims see sin as anything that goes against the commands of Allah. Judaism regards the violation of any of the 613 commandments as a sin” ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin). Notice that it is only in a religious context, oh, but not in the mind of the natural man! The word “sin” never comes from his mouth, because if it did, he would be acknowledging that he is in need of a Savior.
Yet Jesus said: “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” John 8:24. He didn’t say that you will die in your sins if you break any of the 613 commandments”, nor did He say “If you eat pork (Muslim sin) ye will die in your sins”. Simply the act of unbelief that he is Lord, God above all gods, sent to die on a cross and rise again, to cleanse us from all sin, is the death sentence that is foolish to those who will be burned in the pile...forever.
The preaching of the cross is the dumbest thing that the natural man has ever heard, as a requirement to get into heaven. On this earth, we are required to pay the price for our actions. For if we create a debt, we will surely repay it one way or another. Nothing is free in this world. We break our backs to get ahead financially, only to be trodden down again, and to start over. This world is brutal. So, how can a God that created this earth and everything in it give eternal life at no cost to us? Because He loves us so much, that was the motivation. It was His to give; nothing more, nothing less. And in all of the crosses that held a man’s form till death, only one Cross held the Savior of the World. Death by Crucifixion could take up to 4 days, this is why some had their legs broken so that death would come in haste. Jesus however, only remained alive for 6 hours. Jesus gave up His spirit on His own, when all was finished. When He uttered “It is finished” he had brought it to an end, he completed it, he accomplished it, he paid for it… for you. The Old Testament Laws and Ordinances required for peace with God was finished. The sentence of death for the sinner was removed, but only if he received Gods provision in Christ. The New Testament of His Blood was completed. The way of salvation was now open to all men. A criminal death for the only righteous One, who paid for my sin with His Blood.
“Man does not understand this Jesus,
Who willingly gave Himself for me!
On a cross, to set me free!”
It is a rejected message, foolishness to those who continued to be condemned, but to those who are saved, it is the great power of God.
Whosoever believeth in Him
“Oh yes, I believe in Jesus”. I have heard it over and over again. Mormons say it, JW’s say it, Muslims say it, Christian secs and Cults say it, but none of them believe it. He was only a good man, a Prophet, a martyr they say. The Devils themselves are better; they know it is all truth, but instead of pride in their utterance, , they shake and tremble at the name of Jesus. Salvation is not “Name it and Claim it”, for if it were true, the Devil himself could be saved. The demons know the truth, but forfeited it long ago, to their eternal demise. So, why are you so vain to speak the name of Jesus, but not have the power that is in that name? Or why do you have that Cross hanging around your neck but are still lost in your sin? To you, Jesus is just that guy, that one in which many thousands of people say you must please in order to get to heaven. And when was the last time your “church” preached Salvation by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ? If you know him, why do you still walk and bathe in the scrumptious fruits of the world? As James said in Jas 4:4 “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” You have gone insane where you stand if you think for one minute that you can love the world and love God too! It is impossible! If you think you can, then you are deceived. You are holding a nasty lepers rag up to the Most High and saying “Look what I did for you! Isn’t it beautiful?” Your riches indeed will perish with you.
Look into your mirror. See yourself. Study yourself. Are you wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked and in need of the only way to God, Jesus Christ the Righteous? Come to Him, he will save you from yourself and literally make you a new creature. How can anyone reject Him!
