SRIMATI RADHARANI & RADHASTAMI
The Virtues of Radha
On September 4th we celebrate Radhastami, the Appearance Day of Srimati Radharani. This is a beautiful story I read every year at this time. "On a half-moon night in the month of Bhadra, King Vrishnabhanu came to the Yamuna to bathe and found himself engulfed in a golden aura, the golden aura of pure love. It was emanating from a lotus, which had a baby girl on its whorl."
The baby girl is Radha. She is the Beloved of Krishna. I take my spiritual name "Radhapriestess" from Srimati Radharani because I greatly admire many of her qualities. Her virtues and abilities are not always appreciated. She is the Queen of inner qualities, abilities and virtues.
She is Gandharvi, an expert singer. Any one who is gifted in the vocal musical arts embodies the virtues of Radha. This person not only has a beautiful voice but displays a real inner love of chanting, singing and musical composition. In the Maha Mantra the word Hari, Radhe, describes a person or being full of Gandharvi. She has perfect pitch, fully in tune with devotion to Krishna. In the Gita he is called the leader of the celestial musicians. Mother Saraswati gave him the ability to play the flute. In Kirtan we achieve this quality of Gandharvi through Bhakti Yoga.
Radha is Krishnamayi, the one who sees Krishna both within and without. A person with this quality can experience the divinity within, in creation and in others. When you can see spiritual beings, you have this quality. This can be actually seen in the aura through Kirlian photography. If you have this quality, it is seen as a combination of white and wildflower violet in the aura photograph. Often an actual spiritual being is seen or photographed in the aura. Often one of your parents had this ability from birth. This person is devoted to service to humanity in their life. A number of individuals have incarnated at this particular time to help humanity through this difficult 25 year period from 1987 to 2012. Some were born before this date; some were born 1987 and beyond. These individuals are what I call Creation Keepers. They preserve the virtues of the human race. They make up for the negative ones on the planet. They are in the Sisterhood and Brotherhood of Love through their actions toward the Earth herself and all beings of the planet. They do not deny Global Warming but do some thing positive to preserve the creation. These individuals are living their feminine aspects as Radha herself. Most seers, teachers and prophets have called this age the feminine age. Radha is the full embodiment of divinity of our age. In this age Spirit incarnates as the Goddess or Divine Mother. In India and other locations in the last 100 years, female saints have incarnated as the Divine Mother or as some of her aspects. These women show us the way to be in the world. Several enlightened men have also incarnated who live the feminine aspects, such as the current Dalai Lama. He is a male spiritual teacher who truly lives his female aspects well. An another example among Hindus is Pandit Munelal Maharaj, who lives the feminine aspects well in his own life and with others.
Another great quality of Radha is her ability to show mercy, compassion and love to others. This kind of person shows empathy, compassion and love to others. This kind of person shows empathy to those in distress and crisis. A merciful person has gone through plenty and can identify with people in these situations. All spiritual traditions speak of this quality. In Buddhism qualities of right action are mercy and compassion as embodied by Goddess Quan Yin or Tara, the female Buddah. In the Koran God is called the All Merciful. In Christianity Jesus taught the Golden Rule of loving your neighbor as yourself. The Self is the Higher Self, Atman or Soul. In Hinduism Radhe embodies this virtue. As chief gopi she is master of mercy, love and compassion. She is the one who is friend to all.
These are only three of the twenty-five transcendental qualities. One could write a book on each of these qualities. The three I mentioned are among her greatest virtues. If you can live these qualities, then you automatically can live the others. Radha is the Goddess for our age. When you can chant and live the Holy Name, you are like Radha. What I find is that I am so much more productive in my personal life when I chant the Maha Mantra. It is easier to live the Holy Name when you chant it on a regular basis. We often celebrate Krishna's Appearance Day, but neglect to celebrate Radhastami, the full feminine aspect of Krishna. When Radha incarnated, the full incarnation was complete. What a great and beautiful story.
JAI SHRI RADHA! JAI SHRI RADHASTAMI!
