Science and Spirituality in life of a person

Science and Spirituality

Role of Science and Spirituality in life of a person-

Through practical and continued observation we encompass a vast knowledge for all natural and worldly things and this phenomenon is called Science. Human brain is capable of doing wonders and this is evident from the fact that Science has been scaling new heights ever since the human race came into existence. Science has made human life quite easy through its continued inventions. But all that we achieved so far in science is due to our wisdom and meticulous working of our scientists. Is there something beyond the wisdom of human being? Science studies the whole universe the planets, their movement and locations. But who created the universe and all that too in such systematic way? These are questions unanswered by Science. These are the questions arrive not only in mind of an ordinary person like me but the great scientists like Einstein too, here with such quote of Einstein as follows-

“I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts; the rest are details.”

When I get hurt and braving with thrust of emotions no formula of Science soothes that mental stage. At the same time if I start thinking about the creation of God and compare myself to that whole universe I find myself nothing but a tiny object. This comparison sooths me the most and reduces stress substantially. This is simply what Spiritual thoughts capable of doing. If I am walking alone in dark through a dense forest then having spiritual thoughts keeps all fears at bay. If something inexplicable beyond Science then it would belong to spiritual world. We can establish a relation between body, heart, mind and ultimately the soul. In a human body to control heart (emotions) there is mind (wisdom), but beyond this, it is soul that controls wisdom. That soul is like energy and when it gets departed the body is dead. Science states that energy neither can be formed nor be destroyed. Science couldn’t explain soul, so whatever beyond the reach of science is what spirituality happens to be all about. It refers to the omnipresent God but unlike Science we can’t prove it practically.

And this is what was explained by Swami Vivekananda in world religion Parliament on 19th September, 1893 IN Chicago –

“Science is said to have proved that the sum total of cosmic energy is always the same. Then, if there was a time when nothing existed, where was all this manifested energy? Some say it was in a potential form in God. In that case God is sometimes potential and sometimes kinetic, this would make Him mutable. Everything mutable is a compound, and everything compound must undergo that change which is called destruction. So God would die, which is absurd. Therefore there never was a time when there was no creation.” Here he correlates science with spirituality.

Some people mistakenly portrait spirituality as opposite of science, which is not true. Science has limitations but spirituality goes beyond worldly things too. Some people blend superstitions with spirituality which is not appropriate as spirituality doesn’t have to do anything with superstitions. Swami Vivekananda said- “when Superstition enters the brain is gone”. Science gives us reasons while spirituality gives us hope and belief. A spiritual person can’t go astray ever in life. For larger good of the society both spirituality and science are vital for the welfare of entire living beings. Spirituality encourages a person to do well always and gives strength to get rid of worldly sins.

Spirituality encourages mankind to implement great inventions of Science for constructive outcomes.
