Why Care About Nature?

Whether we live as urbanites or as country people, we are realizing that being out in nature has benefits.

Nature not only brings beauty and inspiration to us, but it allows us to write great stories and pieces of poetry as we walk along the leaf littered forest floors. Soothing our hearts and minds along the way. Yes, scientists have found that nature calms not only our anxiety but also positively impacts our cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Religious and spiritual seekers who desire some kind of Shamanic experience out in Mother Nature feel reborn in a sense when they commune in harmony with the grass, plants, animals, trees and surrounding oxygenated area. Bringing an unexpected sense of quiet and peace.

“Our Home is At a Critical Turning Point”, says the Union of Concerned Scientists

As for today? The wind flew up my spine when I came across the Second Warning to Humanity by the Union of the Concerned Scientists and the ongoing living Nobel Laureates in the Sciences (see source below). I thought to myself, “what is this?” As I researched further I learnt that……

The first Warning to Humanity was given in 1992 and from the Manifesto given by the Union of Concerned Scientists, it stated that a great misery is going to reign if we do not curtail our environmental destruction and limit the growth of our worldwide populations. Some of these destructions include depletion of freshwater sources, marine life eradication, ocean dead zones, ozone depletion, forest loss and biodiversity destruction.

The Good News Is….

The good news is, is that these scientists have solutions to be put in place. We just need to act on them. We need a much greater ground swell to put pressure on our leaders and organizations to do the right thing by us and our home, planet Earth. If you are interested the given solutions look like this: -

1.We need to stop cultivating grasslands, forests and other nature habitats

2.Restoring native plant communities on a large scale (e.g. forest landscapes)

3.Rewilding areas with native species so that the predator and prey dynamics can be restored to their original positions

4. Adopting good policies to fix the poaching dilemma; and exploitation of threatened species

5.Reducing food waste through education and better infrastructure

6.Increase our plant intake into our diet so we can decrease animal production

7.Reducing fertility rates through implementation of more family planning clinics together with spreading education about sex and reproduction

8.Getting people inspired about nature so there is increased appreciation of what she can offer

9.The phasing out of fossil fuels and promoting green technologies

10.Restructuring our societies to reduce wealth inequality. Ensuring prices, taxation and incentive systems become real and is taken into account for the costs of consumption patterns that impose upon our environment.

If more of us can implement some of these strategies, we can stop all round misery. If we don’t? There is no possibility of rectification. Full stop! Time is running out.

Being at a critical point where we could tip our home, our planet, either into decay or whether we save it, means we are at The Crossroads.

Everyday People Like You and I Would Like to Know What Is Really Going On

I don’t know about you but I am curious where we may all stand on this subject. I cannot assume that a tarot reading will give us an exclusive answer but, for all curiosity and entertainment purposes, let’s just be willing to see what the Tarot cards can have to say. Maybe this will give us insight? Maybe it won’t. I don’t know. However, we won’t know until we try.

I have applied the Crossroads Tarot Spread in my previous article on the nuclear disarmament meeting to be held between USA’s President Trump and North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-Un. I think this same Tarot Spread can be useful to see how best to move forward here. What do you say?

For Curiosity Sake Let’s See What the Tarot Can Potentially Shed Light On…..

The Crossroads Tarot Spread is a 6 Card spread.

I used the traditional Radiant Rider Waite Tarot Deck

Here are the questions posed for each of the six tarot cards.

Card 1-The Problem-That Leads Us to The Crossroads (5 Swords)

Card 2-This Moment, the problem right now and why it is important to make a decision (World XXI Reversed)

Card 3-The Crossroads-Holds both Choices/Pathways through the positive and negative aspects (Hierophant V)

Card 4-1st Choice-The Events that will take place if one follows the positive aspects of the Crossroads Card (The Star XVII)

Card 5-2nd Choice- The Events that will take place if one follows the negative aspects of the Crossroads Card-(9 Swords)

Card 6-Tarot’s Choice/Outcome (Ace Pentacles)

Let Use See What the Rider Waiter Tarot Deck Have to Say……..

Card 1-The Problem-That Leads Us to The Crossroads (5 Swords)

We have to stop passing the buck.

With the 5 swords tarot card here, it tells me that people are acting upon what is only good for them and too much so. In other words, people are being selfish and exploitive in relation to one another through power plays and adopting the base line attitude, it’s a win-lose game.

The 5 Swords card is a card of conflict. Working relationships between leaders and organizations have probably been one of discord and hostility, rather than amicability and fairness. People wantingly or unwantingly have been in the everyday war zone, mentally forced to deal with “us versus them” dynamics.

I feel that truth and justice has been pushed to the side in favour of the end justifies the means.

There could be white collar criminality involved.

People feel in general disunited on the subject of our home, the Earth and what to do about it.

Card 2-This Moment, the problem right now and why it is important to make a decision (World XXI Reversed)

We are still looking to those leaders that have led us to this critical juncture for our home, planet Earth.

I feel in general we are too trusting; and not asking hard enough questions of those in leadership roles. Perhaps, this is because people like to be associated with winners. Just like our leaders like to be seen as winners and doing a great job.

But what our leaders, managers and organizations are doing are withdrawing from the big responsibilities; and/or working at cross purposes.

The system is not integrated or working as well as it could.

There is a need to break down the problem/s into logical byte sizes and just get involved.

The green wreath in the World tarot card caught my eye for some reason. I feel I need to mention that the colour green is the second most abundant colour in nature after blue. Us humans have assigned these meanings to the colour green: - life, money, greed, jealousy together with renewal and balance. Green is the colour of growth and I feel it is the role of the Millennials to push the green factor ahead.

I feel the earth’s critical point is being avoided and replaced with issues concerning Islam and the ongoing terror war.

Card 3-The Crossroads-Holds both Choices/Pathways through the positive and negative aspects (Hierophant V)

1.Choice A

The focus on Pathway A is about groups.

It is about the formation of like-minded people coming together into a group that has been assigned rules, roles, rituals and procedures. The group is assigned also with someone who has detailed knowledge to share with others. Teamwork is the key here together with being conservative and following the given rules.

2.Choice B

This pathway B is about having someone who is a free spirited innovative individual with their own belief system who could be seen as unorthodox yet able to move with changes that need to be implemented.

Choice B is about the individual while Choice A is about the group and teamwork.

Card 4-1st Choice-The Events that will take place if one follows the positive aspects/pathway A of the Crossroads Card (The Star XVII)

If we follow our given leaders, institutions that adopt a team approach with a leader where conventionalism and logic are applied, people in general will feel less distressed and more hopeful and confident that things will turn around.

Our leaders and organizations feel that they are on the right track but goals need to be readdressed.

Card 5-2nd Choice- The Events that will take place if one follows the negative aspects/pathway B of the Crossroads Card-(9 Swords)

With the 9 Swords Tarot card here, this tells me there is a feeling that if we worked as individuals (as lone wolves) chaos, upheaval, anguish and hopelessness would result.

The 9 Swords reflects concerns. We know intellectually we are at rock bottom with how the planet is but we also feel we are on our way up. We have all felt the internal anguish about this planetary crisis and what bad shape we are in. Feeling horribly guilty to boot. We “get it” on some level that we can no longer consumes as we have done. It’s just not sustainable anymore.

The 9 Swords tarot card says small changes will lead to big changes.

Card 6-Tarot’s Choice/Outcome (Ace Pentacles)

The Ace Pentacles tarot card, says to me the more all of us can be pragmatic, efficient, dependable, cautious, nurturing, persevering, sensible and stable, the more we can turn things around and save our home-our planet.

Trust is the keyword. Rebuilding trust between each other by giving people the benefit of the doubt, they will follow through and do good. A back up support system is needed to maintain a stable foundation.

We need to improve our health and our bodies just as much as we need to have our home in order and o be healthy. The home I am speaking about here is our planet. So, let’s get involved with nature.

In Summary….

We are thinking a lot but need to do.

We need to re-evaluate and take stock. Analyse our situation and logically decide how to proceed. We need to be conservative in our approach and to be cautious in our approach.

We need to focus on what is right and what is working. Then? Do more of that.

Truth and Justice is what we need to uphold if we are going to swing things around and give life back to our home, our planet.

The media can overwhelm one with how "bad" the world is. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. What if, just, what if there was a chance to swing things around?

I live in the woods and try to do my part to protect the nature that is here. It brings me great peace, but I am not always hopeful about the future of this great world.
