Seeing with Love or Envy?

Updated on January 13, 2013

I had not heard of the quote mentioned above until I started to look for quotes on love to share in my writings. I couldn’t resist and purchased the cute Cupid picture to create a poster to match the quote.

How apt! When we are free of envy, we look through eyes that see the wonder in the tapestry of life. We enjoy seeing the good of others and perhaps this reminds us life is not all about drama, sadness and ugliness. There is also loving, goodness and wonder beauty as a night sky filled with stars.

But, when ego’s weakness in the form of envy rears its silly head, instead of looking up and wishing others well, it seeks to scrutinize the person’s gifts or blessings in order to find something wrong and dismiss it. Some even try to destroy.

I have my weaknesses, but envy has not been one of them, so on the rare occasion when I have found out by a chance remark (sometimes years later), that an acquaintance or friend was envious of me, I became a little disconcerted and wondered but why? What is there to envy? It’s not a put down to myself; it’s an awareness that we all have our unique talents and blessings. It's an acceptance, that in this world of diversity, there will be humans with much more talent than I. It’s okay in my world.

Another person's greatness does not diminish my own light.

When we compare ourselves to others, covet what they have; we are coming from a place of lack that implies we have something missing or wrong with us. We are focusing on the fleeting world outside of us as a measure of success.

True abundance comes from within in the form of peace, love and harmony. Nothing can match this state of being. Nothing. Our world becomes a little paradise even in the simplest of surroundings and every blessing theirs and ours – a natural expression of an abundant universe.

We serve the world better, even contribute to healing, when we live in a state that encourages the good in ourselves and others. In the words of a wise teacher, everyone wins.

No, it's not a re-posting. If you wanted to re-post a hub you would have to unpublish it and create a brand new hub perhaps with new tags and a modified title.

Is this a re-posting ? And if so, how does one do so? Thank you.

TK, So good to see you here! I like your thought about appreciation being what envy becomes when it grows up. Every emotion or thought we have does evolve as we shift in awareness. And thanks for the congrats, had to do some revisions on the book but it's now available again in Amazon. :)

Wow, you really connected to the essence of my soul. The love, wisdom and compassion we develop comes from life's experiences, some painful and others beautiful. Glad to have a poetic twin soul in this lifetime! :) Thank you for your beautiful words.

I am going to do my best to contribute more to Hubpages, have been busy with my book (it's published, YAY, but had to do a revision these past few days, and it was a lot of work.

I am so happy to see YOU writing again , in a poets eye , I have felt you were my twin in another life . And yet you are so much wiser . You and your words have a great power , one of center , compassion and wisdom. And yet I know that often comes at a great cost . I have been told occasionaly that I am some peoples "rock" but honestly , my contribution is a little sandy!I would yell out to the world "Look to Violet sun" for she is a our "light"!

Julia, I agree this type of competition cannot be not healthy, it affects the mind, body and spirit. Thoughts do have chemical effects on our bodies. I am turning this comment into a different subject, perhaps a future hub. LOL. Thanks for your comments!

Nellianna, Oh, the poem is in perfect alignment with the message of the hub. Thanks for sharing this, it delights me to see a response with one of your poems. :)

Parks, I love the power of positive thinking as I see how it creates our reality. Thanks for the vote up!

Thanks everyone for reading and your comments! :)

What a delightful quote and thought, Marie! Your thoughts are right on, too. Why anyone feels threatened by someone else's success or excellence and tries to discredit it just escapes me. Good work benefits everyone.

I once wrote this little poem which was trying to express my feelings about it.:

      Aquarian Signs -

      Be not intimidated,

      Be reinforced

      By signs of life herein.

      As the flow is fed,

      So it distributes

      Life ahead.

Envy can be very negative, and I think that is where the idea of frenemies comes from. I am not sure what the point is of having one of those, but I have heard some say how they were always competing with a so-called friend, and were jealous of something she had. That sort of narcissistic competition cannot be healthy. I think it is better to just love a person for who they are, but sometimes we all fall prey to envy.
