The Biblical principle of Being Still.

Updated on March 22, 2016

Being still.

Learning to be still in a time when everything else isn't.

The principle of being still is recognized as a part of life which helps re-center us. Being busy and not principle-minded can lead to less effectiveness in life and bring an overwhelming sensation. Being still and allowing Jesus to speak into us can be powerful when we realize that it is relational. When we value our quiet time with Christ it can yield unexpected fruits. We do not know how Jesus will respond. In fact it is often our failure to listen which seems stemmed from our eyes on our need, our cares, our worries. To be still may require an open mind and thankful heart. His response may be the answer to our situation, or it may shed light on why our prayers have been hindered. Jesus' response will always line up with the Word of God. Being still can keep us sensitive to the Lord's Voice when we are in the storms of life.

An excerpt from psalm 139

1. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; thou understandest my thought afar off.

3.Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

4.For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

5.Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

6.Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7.Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8.If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9.If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10.even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day:

the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

13. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

14. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works;

and that my soul knoweth right well.

15. My substance was not hid from thee when I was made in secret,

and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

17. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

18. If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

19. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

20. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

21. Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

22. I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

23. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24. and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

This is psalm 139 from the Old Testament in song form.

Lyrics for I want to know you more by Sonic Flood

In the secret, in the quiet place
In the stillness You are there
In the secret, in the quiet hour
I wait only for You
Cause, I want to know You more

I want to know You
I want to hear Your voice
I want to know You more
I want to touch You
I want to see Your face
I want to know You more

I am reaching for the highest goal
That I might receive the prize
Pressing onward, pushing every hindrance aside
Out of my way
Cause, I want to know You more

Names of God.

Finding God can be intimate when one realizes that God is already passionately seeking us more than we Him! He is our Father which ever watches us to return. He is the Shepherd which leaves the 99 to find the one lost. He is the Father which spoke thousands of years ahead when Adam and Eve fell, just to redeem His creation to Himself. He is the Lover of our soul. The Friend that sticks closer than a brother. The Bridegroom in the Song of Songs which wooed His love. He is the one who conceals Himself to draw us to find Him! He is Love. He is the Faithful and True Witness. The Prince of Peace. The Kinsman Redeemer. The Bishop of our souls. The Jealous One. The Alpha and Omega. The Beginning and the End. The Lamb slain before the foundations of the earth. The Way the Truth and the Life...

Find us. Hide from us. Seek us. Leave us. Find us. Lose ourselves in You. Come again, Jesus.

Cast your cares unto the Lord for He cares for you. Roll Your Burden unto Him. Trust the Lord with all Your heart, lean not unto Your own understanding but acknowledge Him in all your ways and He shall
